    Fun Christmas Classic

by Mommafive on 12/13/22Ames Center - Burnsville

Going to the Ames theater for a Minnesota Nutcracker is such a magical experience! Burnsville has all the trees decorated with lights, and illuminated snowflakes, so it looks like a winter wonderland. The ballet itself is wonderful. The dancers are so talented, and the costumes and sets are beautiful. It is fun to see Minnesota landmarks in the sets. And the new Minnesota themed dancers made it extra fun and special. It really makes for a magical Christmas experience!

    Beautiful dancing & storytelling

    by E on 10/17/22

I always enjoy TCB's performances. The dancers are wonderful actors as well, and really draw you into the story. I like how they incorporate the students into the performances with the professional dancers in really fun and age appropriate ways. I wish Ames Center didn't allow popcorn & snacks in the theater, though.

    It was good

by Mr. J on 5/10/22Ames Center - Burnsville

Only thing I would change is if there was empty seats everywhere for the balcony area to be able to go down to the lower level and not have obstructed views that's the stupid thing about the seating and would be nice to see performers be able to let you do that

    Took the family

by Anoka Fan on 12/15/21Ames Center - Burnsville

It was a good show - the dancers were talented, although some could've used a little practice to be in sync. Unfortunately many attendees were rude, talking through the entire show making it difficult to enjoy, despite asking them to stop. We would go again, but probably not a matinee - our kids are grown now so it would be nice to enjoy without the kids kicking the back of your seat or screaming that they didn't want to sit on mom's lap. Overall, we'd go again!

    Interesting but don’t recommend.

by Manny on 12/13/21Ames Center - Burnsville

We had the ballet during a blizzard that the show should have been cancelled. They started the show late, people were still coming in 20 min after it started with their cell lights to find their seats. We found the show to be mediocre and kinda boring. Difficult to follow the storyline without reaching the booklet to see what it’s supposed to mean. Would not recommend.

    Always gorgeous

by Sricci on 12/13/21Ames Center - Burnsville

I try and see the TC Ballet at least twice a year, with at least one Nutcracker performance. Every time I go I’m always filled with happiness and a little bit of nostalgia. You can tell all involved are truly passionate and I respect the hard work they put in. One of my personal favorite things to experience at the ballet is all of the children twirling around during intermission. Truly inspiring, you never know which child will grow up to be a ballerina themselves.

    Wonderful ballet

This ballet is one of the best. The professional company paired with local young dancers makes it extra special.

    Great show!

The show includes the traditional nutcracker story, and the most amazing dances showcasing the talented ballet dancers.

    Wonderful!

by Ken H on 10/31/21Ames Center - Burnsville

The evening was broken up into two parts. A series of dances with their own stories, then the main show. I really liked the short dances as they expanded my mind on what is meant by ‘ballet’ and its power to tell stories. The main show Dracula was amazing. The music and the performance completely drew me into the story. All in all a great evening that left my wife and I a lot to discuss afterwards.

    Great company, ok ballet.

by Jessica on 5/22/19Ames Center - Burnsville

The twin cities ballet company does a great job making their ballets accessible to the general audience and bringing new life to, in my opinion, an old and snobbish art form. I have to admit though, I enjoyed the rock ballet, Pink Flyod's The Wall, better than I enjoyed Narnia. I enjoy that the company brings in so many children while still keeping it professional. The young dancers that had leading roles did an especially professional job. The costumes were interesting and inspiring. The music and lack of words was too classical and boring for me to rate top marks. Still, I attended with four children and they all sat and enjoyed the show... though also thought the music and lack of words made it less than ideal.

    Fun afternoon

by Skrents on 5/15/19Ames Center - Burnsville

Having prepped my granddaughters with the story ahead of time made all the difference. Great costumes and wonderful dancing with emotion filled facial expressions. Aslan was particularly wonderful and so was the white/winter witch. All of the children playing hedgehogs, mice etc were delightful.

The Music, costumes and dance were great. My granddaughter of 4 years old loved the performance. It was a great Mother's day gift of 4 generations to all get to share in the experience.

    Spectacular!!

by NarniaGirl on 5/14/19Ames Center - Burnsville

I have only seen a couple ballet performances in my lifetime, so by no means am I an expert. But I adore The Chronicles of Narnia, and have read the books and seen all the moves (old BBC and new Walden Media) multiple times. I found it astounding how much story and emotion was conveyed through physical movement in this performance! (I was actually moved to tears more than once.) Not to mention how MUCH of the story they were able to fit in without a single spoken word! All in all, I would most definitely see this one again! I brought a friend with me who not only is a ballerina herself but she used to teach pointe for a few years. She made the comment afterward that all the dancing was "clean and precise" and that she "hadn't seen such an excellent performance in a while." She also said that she will keep her eyes and ears open for more TCBM performances and possibly bring her pointe students to a show!

    Enthralling!

by Scott P on 1/16/19Ames Center - Burnsville

I attended the premiere of this ballet last year & wished I could see it again - glad my wish came true! (I hope that it becomes standard repertoire for Twin Cities Ballet.) The choreography is visceral & engaging, complementing the live music by the excellent Run Like Hell band. The dancers are superb, and clearly expressed emotion through their movement and facial expressions. I was enraptured by the performance and frequently moved to tears by the sheer beauty and art of this brilliant rock ballet.
