  • 5/15/22 Turandot HD Live at the Bardavon

by BarbaraJ on 5/18/22Bardavon 1869 Opera House - PoughkeepsieRating: 4 out of 5

Giacometti Puccini’s music is enthralling, Franco Zeffirelli’s sets were elaborate & the Anna Anni’s& Dada Saligeri’s Costume designs were stunning. Calaf/ Yonghoon Lee & Ermonela Jaho’s voices resonated so beautifully; Liudmyla Monastyrska acted so believably as the vengeful & heinous Turandot, her operatic voice seemed a bit harsh to me, however. I forgave her in the end. Love, love loved the production all in all. Sorry to see the theater so empty that day. Someday, I’ll be seated at the Met in the balcony for a real live performance of Turandot. Thank you.

One of the best productions so far. The stage setting was magnificent. The performance was spectacular. Waiting to attend another performance.

From costumes to music and voice the opera was excellent.

Amazing opera, the story picked up right away and had just enough mix of passion and macabre to keep me enthralled. Bravo!

  • Good performances, but.....

    by Overhand on 3/7/11F. M. Kirby Center - Wilkes-BarreRating: 4 out of 5

The musicians and singers were all great, but I was expecting to see the full opera and was a bit surprised and disappointed that an abbreviated version was presented. It would only be fair to inform attendees that this is what they would receive for their money BEFORE THEY SPEND IT!! Had I know that, I think I would prefer to save and invest in the full performance in NYC, albeit less convenient than a trip to beautiful downtown Wilkes Barre. Additionally, as happens so often at the opera, the audience insists on applauding after each aria. Would it be so difficult to explain to the less initiated before the show starts to hold their applause until the end of each act (i.e., when the curtain drops)??

It was the first opera I ever attended and was very impressed with the performance. I would highly recommend it.

A strong performance by all cast members. the orchestra sounded larger than it actually was. Great acoustics for opera at the Kirby. We'll gladly go again.
