About

They say fashion is cyclical... and they’re right. Truly amazing things never go out of style, regardless of when they first popped up. Toto’s tune ‘Africa’ is one of these things. First heard in 1982, this masterpiece of popular prog has been a staple of pop culture since release. Taken from their massive second album Toto IV, it combined their other calling card Rosanna to introduce Toto to a massive audience. That record would go on to win several Grammy Awards and establish a base from which the band grew into one of the most prolific and durable acts in modern music history. Musically mind blowing and with more hits that you can poke a stick at, there’s no doubt that people will ask “where were you when Toto played Festival Hall?” for years to come.

    Toto may surprise you

by Mercstar on 8/23/13River City - St Louis

I'm not a huge fan of Toto, but wanted to see them since their appearances here are few and far between. They were well worth it. Much more toward the rock and roll guitar style than I was expecting. They covered a wide variety of songs from their catalog and musical styles as well. If you like them even a little I would definitely make the effort to see them live.

Toto demonstrates their mad skills and love

by ProfessorsLoveChild on 8/23/13River City Casino - Saint Louis

These musicians put it all out there for their audience and for their love of the music. It was an honor to finally get to see and hear them on their 35th anniversary tour. "Luke" was amazing on guitar, Simon rocked his Tama kit, Nathan laid down the grooves, Steve and David were magical on the keys, and Joe's vocals haven't aged like other bands' singers from my "hey days." The venue was intimate and comfortable. The sound was great! Prices at the bars were reasonable ... and accessible with friendly staff. It was our first time seeing a concert here, and with a band like Toto breaking us in right ... we will definitely return if they continue to attract world-class artists like Toto.

Toto has been around for a long time and unfortunately I didn't get to see them back in the 80s, but thank goodness I had this opportunity to see them on August 20th. I completely enjoyed the show. I did not know that Toto rocked like that! I would definitely go to see them again. The only thing I question is their encore song. I think it was something relatively new that not many people had heard before, I know I hadn't. Your encore song should be one that really rocks and was and still is very popular.

    Classic!

by G666 on 8/23/13River City - St Louis

Great gig overall. Played for a respectable 2 hours. Amazing musicianship. The only reason I gave it four starts instead of five is because at times the guitars were too low on volume and everything else was literally it covering up. I mainly went to see this show just because of Steve's guitar playing so it kinda sucked to have moments where it was barely audible. Otherwise, the sound was pretty good.

    Toto was incredible

by cncrtguy on 8/23/13River City - St Louis

Great show! This is a band that is amazing. They can really play live and it's a shame more people don't have an opportunity to hear them live. A bigger venue would have really helped, them, too. Bring them back...soon! Thank you for bringing them our way this year. Hopefully next year, too!

    Toto is timeless

by Hurl130 on 8/23/13River City - St Louis

Performance was flawless. Vocals were amazing, even better that what was seen on YouTube posted live performances. Luke's guitar many times during the set seemed to melt the minds of an awed audience. Great to see original members. Concert of a lifetime!

    Toto Totally Rocked!

by spintrix68 on 8/23/13River City - St Louis

I knew these guys would be good, but they pretty much blew everybody away. Steve Lukather is an amazing solo guitarist and he did not disappoint! Joe Williams sounded GREAT. Even if you never really got into Toto's music, you will be impressed with the sheer talent of this band. So glad I got to see them! I did really appreciate that they started at 8 and ended at a reasonable time. They did play for a little over two hours straight! Some of us had to get up and go to work, so that was a real plus.

    Toto @ Chastain Park

by TheFuryette on 8/17/13Chastain Park - Atlanta

Wow, wow and more wow. This show ROCKED!! However having Toto as opening act was a mistake. Kansas was just mediocre in excitement level and had terrible sound and lights. Toto is just a mix of such great talent and energy. Hope they have more shows in the US as a headliner. Glad I didn't pay to see Kansas as they were low key and looked like a bunch of old men. Why would you wear a polo shirt for a rock event on stage???? However ALL of Toto members looked and acted like Rock stars and gave us our money worth.

Overall a GREAT experience...with some flaws.

by LAPianoMan on 9/25/12Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

Toto is truly one of the most complete and musical bands of our time. Falling in Between is the best "after 30 years of playing" albums ever written. The concert at Talking Stick AZ Sep 2012. PROS No warm up band, just 95 minutes of non stop rocking of some of their very best tunes. Nathan from Fourplay was incredible at "fill in bass". We had front row seats to watch Steve still play guitar better than almost everyone in the business. New or old. Phillipps is a top ten drummer in rock and roll history. Small group provided an intimate environment..all 3000 us had a private show to ourselves. CONS Some tracks were laid down in advance (who doesn't these days) and the band was caught playing the wrong chords on one tune. Bob is THE voice of Toto...period and was missed greatly during this show. The band did not interact much with the audience until the very end of the show...maybe they were tired after a long world tour.

    Toto was phenomenal

by Clohser on 9/25/12Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

Toto rocked from beginning to end of their 1:42 minute set in front of a standing room only crowd at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Az. The band doesn't get the opportunity to tour the US much nowadays and they seemed to relish the moment on Sunday in front of a very enthusiastic crowd. My wife commented after the show that you know a band has a deep catalog when the fourth song in is one of their biggest hits, Rosanna. Steve Lukather, the guitarist, did the majority of the talking in between songs and he was quite funny. Before he played I Won't Hold You Back, he warned the fans that he hadn't played it in a while and they ended up restarting the song when he forgot the second line of the song. It sounds worse than it was since it added the human element that we were seeing a live show. His guitar work and solo were nailed in the song and he joked after words about knowing the melody but not recalling the words. Another big moment was Hold the Line. The jam in the middle was incredible with Amy Keys coming front and center with Joseph Williams singing back and forth. The night ended with them doing Africa as an encore followed by Home Of The Brave concluding the set. Africa was stretched out to about 11 minutes with the bassist, Nathan East, showing us why they asked him to play for Michael Porcaro who has been sick. David and Simon played well off of each other flanking each side of the stage at keyboards and piano and, of course, Simon Phillips kept the set tight with his great drum work as always. I would highly recommend this show to everyone.

Great show. Toto is just as good as it gets. But the venue sucks. Horrible acoustics. If you weren't sitting in the middle you couldn't see everyone. This was due to a lack of width on the stage. Terrible stage! I've actually played this room before although it was only half the size for our event. I'm sure Toto's crew did the best they could with the stage setup given the lack of room. The band was great! Talking Stick is one of the better casinos in Phoenix, but artist like this deserve a better venue. We only stayed in our $75 dollar seats for half of the first song because I couldn't see one of my favorite drummers. Like I said I've actuallyl played this room. Terrible acoustics.

Toto - Tight, Authentic, Solid sound and show

by Saxfiend on 9/25/12Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

The event was phenomenal, only marred by the use of large, tower stage monitors on either side of the stage, severely impacting the view on the more expensive seats purchased. The show from start to finish was engaging, tight and an incredible display of artists at their best. The Vocals of the 3 singers, Paich, Lukather & Joe Williams were all Spot on, accurate and really made an example of many other older bands who are clinging on to their careers. These guys are performing, I'm sure, as well as they ever have done. The Backing vocalist Jenny Douglas was so strong and her dynamics well presented these classic hits. Nathan East on bass & Simon Phillips on Drums offered further world class support and rhythm to the already phenomenally talented collection of musicians, artists and Entertainers. The show was captivating from start to finish. Bravo!!

    worn out

by kh148 on 9/25/12Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

Forgettable. 1. Ballroom setting made me feel as if I were at a conference. I did know ahead a time; but still was uncomfortable 2. Band was good, just not great.
