  • Tori is an amazing performer but lighting sucked!

by terese on 7/12/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

Tori put on an amazing performance! Wowing us with old favorites and new songs from her latest album. Whoever did their set design though really missed the mark. We are all there to see Tori not to be blinded but the huge white lights aimed at our faces! Many times during her set people in the upper balcony were crouched down or shielding their eyes from the obnoxious lighting!

  • Tori Musical Goddess

    by Longing4more on 7/12/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Tori Amos is a musical goddess. She shared a personal story about her brother, did a cover of Sevie Nicks, and played 2 or 3 encores. Her voice and playing sound even better then on CD. She was amazing.

by Billy47 on 7/12/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Tori Amos is always amazing live. I have seen her several times and this was the best yet. Her talent is always impressive and her music is moving. If you ever have the opportunity to see her play, it should not be missed! She is as good, if not better, live than on CD.

  • Tori Amos- even more impressive live

by Dosa on 7/12/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

I generally consider a concert a success if the artist sounds as good as they do on an album- which I find rare. Tori Amos sounded even better. In addition, seeing her live gave me a whole new appreciation for her incredible technical skills as a musician- watching her play three or four different keyboards at once- with some of them behind her- and play the pedals on her piano backwards- was amazing. I have a renewed respect for her skills and talent. I also appreciated the ways she allowed her earlier music to grow and change as she has- instead of sticking to a set static version of her early songs- they have grown with her.

I have been a fan of Tori since her first album was released and have never had an opportunity to see her live. Well good things do come to those who wait. The show was beyond Amazing. I could not wipe the smile off my face. And One Eskimo, Tori's opening band, was really good to.

this is the second time i have seen her perform and both times were just amazing. She sounds exactly as she does on her CD and she is very engaging. The lights she uses really compliment each song and add more to the mood of the show. i look forward to seeing her again.

  • Fantastic Show

by LostAggressive on 7/12/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

This is the second time my wife and I have gone to see Tori Amos. She never disappoints. Aside from being amazing on the piano, she is very personal with the audience. In the middle of the show, the two guys from her band took a break to "go grab a beer" and she stayed on stage and had an intimate chat with the audience and played a little on her own. This is typically not my kind of music, but I love watching her perform.

  • Tori never lets you down!

    by Ubette021 on 7/12/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Tori was simply amazing! This was my 3rd Tori show in Seattle. I took my Husband and my Mom for there birthdays. Everyone loved the show. She always blows me away with her shows. Her songs and stories are top notch. And she really brings the show to a climex. I would reccomend seeing her anytime she is in town.

  • Tori at the Schnitz was Amazing

by tayc on 7/12/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

She came out in a long-blue dress with a huge flower-petal type collar and black leggings. She opened the show with the trip-hop groove of Give. When she played Caught A Lite Sneeze next, I had a feeling that it was going to be a great evening. And boy, was it one. She had good energy and got the audience moving on her up-tempo numbers. Well, as much as her polite audience moves in her shows. No standing up and dancing, just head rocking and body moves while seated. It was nice that she played several b-sides and when she sang a cover of Joni Mitchell’s River, the girl seated next to me cried. Ok, fine, I admit it, it was I who did the crying. I just love the song and her rendition of it was so powerful. Too bad concerts at Schnitzer Hall need to end at 11 p.m. She was supposed to do two encores but did just one. She didn’t get to sing Police Me (a personal favorite from the new album) and Curtain Call. I was able to get the set list with her hand-written notes on them after the show. My other issue with the show was that she didn’t interact more with the audience. The only time she spoke was when she introduced the band, then mentioned how nice it was to spend the day in Portland without having to go around a flood, referencing the last time she was in town a couple of years back when the Interstate 5 was flooded and impassable due to severe storms. But these were trivial matters. She sounded great and she could still hit those high notes, especially when she’s going off and wailing in numbers like Black-Dove (January) and Little Earthquakes. When the lights came on after the show, people in the front where I was seated took a little bit of time just standing around, talking and generally just letting it all sink in before calling it a night.

  • Tori Amos stunning

by Cappercorn on 7/12/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Tori Amos is a really amazing artist, very unique in the musical world. The sound is always good in the Arlene Schnitzer concert hall so this venue makes it extra special to see someone so talented. Worst part was trying to drink red wine in flimsy plastic glasses. I will go for beer next time.

  • Amazing!

by denbrewmeister on 7/12/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

When I first got there, I was definitely underwhelmed by the venue (WaMu theater), but Eskimo One was a pleasant surprise. Then when Tori hit the stage, she was incredible. The stage dressing and lighting were cool, but the music and her voice were absolutely transcendent. It seemed very intimate. Lots of excellent songs, many encores, the old songs still had the power and edge I love about them, and I heard new ones I enjoyed, too. I was a little surprised to not hear Winter, but I couldn't be disappointed because the whole show was wonderful. I've been listening to her music for years, but this was the first time I've been able to see her in person. This was a show I'll always remember as one of my favorites of all time.

  • PHENOMENAL PERFORMANCE!!!!!!!!!!

by ciaoman on 7/12/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

WOW! Tori was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! From the moment she walked out on stage until she left after her single encore, she shined! Based upon her movements, and facial expressions it was obvious that she was having fun performing for us all. I have wanted to see her ever since I purchased Little Earthquakes back in 1991. She did not disappoint!!!

  • Tori Amos live in the Lizard Lounge

by lovely4 on 7/12/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Tori was fabulous! I would definately recommend this show to past and present fans of Tori! I admit I have only heard a few song off her new CD. I was VERY pleased to hear tracks from other albums(I can't help but say "albums"). She was constant. Performed the entire time only leaving the stage once!! Her set was simple, beautiful and she was glamorous ans amazing. This was the third show for my husband and I over the past 10 years and I am here to say this one really was the best. Thank you Tori. By the way~you must show up on time to catch her opening performers "One Eskimo". I will get their disc as well as Tori's I promise!!

  • Tori brought the house!

by Nesh on 7/12/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

I missed the show opener due to a local event and construction, but the part of the show I did catch was great! Tori was playing between three to four different types of keyboard instruments and had two other musicians for the show: a strong drummer and a versatile guitar player (he switched instruments nearly every single song, rotating between four and five stringed bass, acoustic/electric guitar and an upright electric bass). The stage was simple, with a backdrop that caught and amplified the various colored lights, changing the mood from bright and colorful to dark and moody. The arrangement definitely played to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall's strengths. If you have never been to this venue then I strongly suggest checking it out. The Arlene Schnitzer is designed for a seated, intimate connection with the artist/performer that appears there. All three levels of seating are close to the stage and offer excellent viewpoints of the stage, so you will be hard pressed to find a bad seat. Tori mainly performed newer songs and pieces with an occasional classic song thrown into the mix. She had a rapport with the audience throughout the last two hours of the show that I was able to catch. Fans were into the music, yelling out to her and dancing to the music as best they could in their seats. The music was great, but I would not expect much less from her, as this was my third or fourth show of hers that I have been to. At the end of her performance over half of the first floor rushed the stage causing a minor panic for the two security officers posted there. While the crowd did not climb the stage they were determined to catch her notorious encore. Tori did not disappoint them. She came out, shaking hands, giving high fives and chatting with the throng of listeners before beginning a three piece set that simply amazing.

  • Amazing as always

I've been attending Tori Amos shows since 1998 and she never fails to deliver. Truly amazing, awe-inspiring, beautiful, just can't say enough about it

  • Tori Is AMAZING!!

by Shelbyvalentine on 7/12/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great concert!! The view from all vantage points was great! The opening act was really good too. It was very cool to watch Tori play two different keyboards at once both on the same side and opposites of her body. She is a a truly amazing and gifted artist and her voice is incredible!! I loved that she played songs from all her albums. I would definitley go again when she comes to town next.
