  • Tori - kind, funny, sexy, awesome, and talented!

    by thesatorialist on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first visit to the Paramount Theater in Oakland, and man is it gorgeous! A huge, beautifully cared-for Art Deco theater, big enough to be impressive but small enough to feel fairly intimate (to be fair, I bought pre-sale tickets and sat in Row D). On accident, before the show, my friend and I were lucky enough to stumble on the signing, and meet Tori and get pictures and signatures. This was my fourth Tori show but my first signing, and I was blown away by how kind, patient and conscientious Tori is with the fans. She made sure to say hi to everyone, she asked questions, gave hugs, and smiled for picture after picture. Few artists do that any more. It was fantastic. It was also adorable that her daughter Tash was killing some time by chalking the sidewalk next to the tour buses - she left some really funny art! The show was (of course) amazing - Tori is a performer of the highest caliber, and really plays to the audience. Plus, her voice and music are at least as good live as recorded. And her bandmates are terrific artists. It was a memorable show, to say the least!

  • Wasn't a fan before. I am now.

    by perfectool14 on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

Tori Amos is one of my girlfriends favorite artists and I was able to keep this show a secret for her until we pulled up in front of the Paramount theater. I grew up hearing Tori Amos from my sisters bedroom but never really had much interest in it. After seeing her last night, I can say without a doubt she is one of a kind. She sounded absolutely beautiful. Sometimes she would hit notes that would give me goosebumps. I couldn't help but be mesmerized by the sounds created by her lungs and fingers. Awesome show.

  • awesome tori!!

The concert was amazing as always. I took a friend who had never seen Tori before and she said it was easily one of the best concerts she had ever been to. Thanks to Tori and the band for a wonderful show!!

  • Tori Amos Revives the Soul with Sonic Poetry

    by InkSlinger on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

An avid Tori Amos fan, I had stopped going to her concerts 8 years ago because the venues were too large and weren't doing her music any justice. My flame for her live performances was rekindled when I saw her last night in Oakland at the Paramount Theater. The venue was just the right size with seating that couldn't go wrong. She toted 5 or 6 piano/organs/keyboards, often utilizing four in a single song, while kissing the microphone with her lyrics, and writhing to her own music in her traditional stance. Accented beautifully by her drummer and guitarists, Tori put on a show that will remain embedded in my heart. The show was not something that you could simply hear or see. You could feel the show in the marrow of your bones. Namaste.

  • Tori Amos performed perfectly...

    by csch on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed the show, some of the lights were shining right in our eyes which was not comfortable. Tori put on a great show, she has such an amazing voice in addition to her incredible piano talent. The Paramount Theatre was a really good venue as well.

  • I mean, Tori can never be bad.

    by MlleLara on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

I had a huge problem with the venue. I was sitting in the balcony, and there were spotlights on the stage shining directly into people's eyes for a good portion of the show. It was quite blinding and left you seeing spots when they moved or turned off. It was almost like you had an obstructed view because it was difficult to look at Tori some of the time. Musicwise, Tori is my favorite artist and this was my first time seeing her, so I am probably very biased. Wow, is she a performer! Seeing Tori for two hours is an experience. It's hard to put on a good show when your main instrument is a piano, but she rocks it! She played a lot of songs from her new CD, understandably since it just came out, but I wish she had played a few more older ones. I still prefer her and piano, plus maybe a little drums and bass, over her newer stuff that sounds more like a rock band. However, overall, whatever she did play, she really PLAYED IT. Go see her, but don't sit in the balcony at Paramount Theater.

  • great concert, needs less "music"

    by ToddF on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was really good and it's a great venue. However, I felt the band members were over-amped relative to Tori's voice. I would have liked less "music" and more Tori - it would have been more enjoyable to hear her lovely voice.

  • i was screaming like a teenage girl...

    by satch on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

...and I'm a straight 40-year old man. Loved every minute of it!!! From One EskimO, and all the way thru Tori's set, which included new, old, and a few surprises in between. She is truly a gift to music, music fans and entertainment in general.

  • Even from far away she was great

    by Sakky on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

The reason im giving it 4 stars is only because i was in the farthest balcony and the lights blinded all of us. Other than that i loved it. She is a rock star! and the best piano performer and player. i love it!

  • Tori could sound good in a cardboard box

by cmecu on 7/14/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Tori Amos is an amazing preformer...She needs a more intimate venu to be truly appreiciated. I hope next time she comes to town she books at the paramount...

  • Great Show Except for the lights

by AmandaGio on 7/14/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

The show was awesome. The only draw back was that the Lighting blinded me and half the audience about 70% of the time. Gotta Love Tori Though.

  • Tori is a Goddess!!!

by JlynnSpokane on 7/14/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

WAMU theatre was a wonderful venue for Tori-the sound quality was tremendous. Tori paid homage to Seattle by wearing a remarkable emerald dress, with gold lame pants. She made beautiful love to the music. I didn't get to hear my favorite song-"Tear in Your Hand"-but did enjoy "Precious Things, and "Cornflake Girl". I don't know where Tori gets her energy...if only I had a drop of that, and her talent.Awesome-hope I don't wait another 5 years to hear her live again!!

  • Tori is a goddess

by galileo24 on 7/13/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Her piano skills are beyond amazing, she is an artist that will continue to make inspired music because its obvious it is what she was born to do. It was a memorable night.

  • Tori Amos 2009 portland show

by Gordon on 7/13/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Concert was awesome, puts on a really good show. Really enjoyed the use of lights and colors to the songs. If you get a chance to see her this tour you gotta go, the opening act One Eskimo rocks.

  • Not so much

by notafananymore on 7/13/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

The show was a screechy mess of lights and muffled sound, with Tori striking theatrical poses by the piano. We refer to her now as "Piano Cher". The venue is a wonderful place to see music, but this show was terrible. The house was half full, probably speaks to the shrinking fan base. Sad to see because I used to be a fan. Now it seems to be more about the posing and less about the music.

  • Tori is unforgettable!!

    by Alexis5 on 7/13/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

I will say that I was somewhat nervous about the Venue (WaMu). I can now say that in all the times I've seen Tori Live the sound system at WaMu was the most clear. She sounded amazing. She's a breath of fresh air, really. Very powerful performance.

  • Tireless Tori

by beaner on 7/13/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

She and her band are tireless, they rocked non-stop barely taking any breaks the entire night. Music was great, they are all very talented. The only complaint was that too many of the songs were from the new disc and unrecognizable to us, and I always complain that she didn't do my very favorite song of all-time: Sweet the Sting !

  • Amazing Live Show

by ConcertJudge on 7/13/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Tori Amos is a consumate performer and the show was incredible. She played a mix of new and old some of which I have never heard her play live before. Opening act, OneEskimO was interesting as well.

  • Tori-ly Amos-ing

by Evets on 7/13/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

I must admit, Tori need only appear onstage for me to rate this 5 stars... She played a generous 2-hour plus, non-stop mix of new and older material to an audience of adoring fans. Tori sounds better than ever, aging better than even the finest wines. What's not to love?

  • Tori was great

by joergsea on 7/13/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

Even though I am not the biggest fan of Tori Amos, she really excelled at this concert. She want back and forth between the piano and the synthesizers, her Emerald dress was just amazing and she really showed her talent.
