My wife and I love going to see Tori. The sound is always amazing and she is an awesome performer. She does a great job of playing the classic hits and sprinkling new material in there as well. If you enjoy Tori's music, you have to see her live...period.

    Tori Amos is Musical

by jeffrynick on 7/12/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

Went to this concert with my 17 year old daughter because wife and 16 year old daughter weren't interested. First heard Tori Amos in 1991 with Little Earthquakes, and like fine wine she has aged gracefully and is still relevant. She has done so much music that there were times I didn't recognize what she was playing, but she played many of her standards, ie, Cornflake Girl, Icicle etc. We were sitting with a group of folks who had seen her show the night before in Seattle and are traveling to the cities she is touring to, and that was kind of fun for my daughter. Following their dream! Sound was a lot better than her show in 2007, could actually hear what she was singing. Was very disappointed the Oregonian didn't cover this concert in Friday's A&E. What's up with that? Opening act was forgettable, something about Eskimos. They were certainly no Yoav.

Tori Amos rocks Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall

by Kindmuse on 7/12/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

In a very dynamic performance using the full range of here voice, Tori Amos rocked the balconies at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon last night. This was the first time I've seen Ms. Amos perform in a concert setting and simply saying I was impressed doesn't seem to do justice. She has a great voice, knows how to hold the crowd, and is able to multitask very well playing her Boisendorfer (sp) and three other organs (think one was even a Hammond?) at the same time. She even managed to belt out some lyrics while playing these instruments. The light dynamics were spectacular as well creating a multidimensional show that even the mellowest person would find it difficult not to dance to. Her backup dummer and bassist/guiter players definitely hold their own. And the Schnitzer concert hall is a spectacular auditorium to see all of this playing out.

    Tori's story

by chetsmitty on 7/12/09WaMu Theater - Seattle

I love Tori. This was my second time seeing her. THis time I took my girlfriend. The sound was amazing and so was the lighting, although to be honest the set list was a bit sparadic. There were a few lulls in the energy. But,...for the most part the mix was great. New songs mixed with old, soft to rockin.....andTori......well her voice sounded amazing as well as her playing and the "Poison Ivy" outfit was working for her. Her playing was fearless as usual, but I did think the organ was up alittle high in the mix. Finally, it's always nice to here Matt's rhythms. I've folled him all the way from Critters. Tori is a beautiful songbird who crafts amazing tunes. Thanks for playing "Precious Things" Tori!

    Tori in Seattle

by BellinghamMary on 7/11/09WaMu Theater - Seattle

Tori's opening night of her Sinful Attraction tour was amazing. She played a good range of songs from all her albums. My favorites of the night were Big Wheel and Precious Things. She sang "Bells for Her", that almost drove me to tears, the raw emotion she evoked with that song was unparalleled. Tori did a meet and greet before the show, she looked fabulous and spent a few minutes with each fan talking with them, signing autographs and posing for pictures.

Tori Amos as awesome as ever!

    by jen242424 on 7/11/09WaMu Theater - Seattle

Tori performed for a full 2 hours and was as amazing as always. The concert hall's acoustics were mostly good. The mix of songs was nice--some new, some older, some slow, some rockin'!

love tori and all her toriness!

by jdexpress on 7/11/09WaMu Theater - Seattle

i thought the music at tori's show last night was absolutely great. she played a lot of songs from her "under the pink" era. i would give her 5 stars of course. however the Wamu theatre was not the best place for her to showcase her music. i felt like the sound was moving to the sides of me. i prefer to have the sound bounce off my head and hit me from all angles. i am looking forward to seeing her in pdx tonite at the Arlene Schitzer concert hall. this is an excellent place to see a show. the acoustics and sound are perfect.

    Tori is amazing as usual

by javaboyseattle on 7/11/09WaMu Theater - Seattle

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any info anywhere about who was opening and what time Tori was coming on, so we got there at 9:30 only to find that she came on at 8:30 and we missed half the show. I was pretty pissed. Why isn't this information more readily available???? That said, Tori is an amazing musician and songwriter and I loved every minute of it.

    Better with age

    by emg2009 on 7/11/09WaMu Theater - Seattle

I have seen Tori Amos many times over the years and have been consistently impressed by her live shows. That being said, I can honestly say that she has set the bar high with this concert. She is a stellar live performer who can seamlessly blend her old material with the new songs, in unpredictable and sonically adventurous ways. I didn't want the night to end, and I am still in awe!

    Wow.

by dills on 7/11/09WaMu Theater - Seattle

I have been a Tori Amos fan for a long time. The phrasing of the piano seems to match her voice perfectly; this combination puts her in a completely different league than today's 'pop' icons. At times I would feel better comparing her performance (voice + lyrics + instrument) to the likes of a local symphony playing Chopin at Benaroya Hall than Coldplay, Mayer, or *insert current musician here*. The subtleties of the inflections that she chooses brings light to some of the darker areas of her recordings, and supplies dedicated fans with a bit of clarification to these items. Aside from that, Tori Amos delivered an outstanding performance although I walked in the room with extremely high expectations. I have seen the live DVD's, etc., but these can do no justice. Although I would not say that her movements do not demand attention like in a high-energy show like Collective Soul, you find your eyes gravitating to her due to fantastic (yet simple) set design and a simple curiosity: Who can make sounds this sweet? I would love to hear her sing a lullaby.
