  • Acoustics sucked

by brogansrun on 7/15/09San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 3 out of 5

I don't know if it was the setup or the venue, but the acoustics were terrible. Luckily my brain could fill in the words I could not hear. Performance was great by both artists though.

  • Amazing Show.

Tori Amos is a force of nature. Her vocals are better than ever, the arrangements are fresh and exciting. The opening band, One Eskimo, was excellent as well.

  • What A Snooze-Fest!

by Torimented on 7/15/09San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 1 out of 5

First, let me start by saying that I love Tori CD's!!! I also wanted to love Tori Live but she is a VERY VERY VERY BORING perfomer. She did not say ONE WORD during the show, not "Hello San Jose", not even "Thank-You" between songs. And speaking of songs - Every one she did sounded the same as the previous. She didn't do any of her really melodic songs. I left after 1 hour because I was SO BORED. Also, the house wasn't even half-full. I have a feeling others know what to expect at a Tori concert. What a waste of an hour and $60.

  • Not quite inspired

by Abraxas on 7/15/09San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 3 out of 5

For whatever reason, I expected a lot more from this show. From beginning to end, there were too few "moments". The songs from the current album were great, but the setlist in general just didn't keep the vibe going. There are so many great Tori Amos songs, but too few of those were used, and when they were, they often didn't fit the flow. The encore was a bit of a let-down as well.

  • Hit me baby one more time!

  • Tori is a goddess

    by RjDj on 7/15/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

The Paramount is great and so was Tori in it. This was my 3rd time seeing her there. I sat up front in the balcony for the first time and the sound was amazing. Tori played for just over 2 hours playing songs from her entire career as well as about 6 or 7 from the new album. Her one and only cover was Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney....very fun. Love her!

  • Best Night Ever

by emmiedahl on 7/15/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a Tori fan since 1991 but was never able to make it to a concert. I thought I would be disappointed because I have built this night up so big in my head. However, I was blown away by how good she is in concert. If this had been even one tenth as good as it was, I still would not have been disappointed. I cried the whole time. This was a really healing experience. I recently had my fifth miscarriage, and this concert made me feel whole again.

  • Tori Amos

    by fontanel2 on 7/15/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 2 out of 5

She loses two stars for not doing any Michael Jackson covers. She is known for her covers and to do a Brittany Spears over MJ is not cool! Otherwise I can say she works very hard at her concerts to put on a good show.

  • Tori Amos...such an inspiration!

    by SharonMoon on 7/15/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

I don't have the words to express how awesome Tori is in concert. Every song was perfectly sung. Her piano playing was flawless. She is quite an entertainer and her songs are even better when experiencing the unique performance live. My daughter has seen her over 10 times now, and this was my first time to see her. I am happy I finanlly got the chance to catch the show. Love her!!!!!

  • Tori is Always amazing!

    by autumn666 on 7/15/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

This is the 5th (or 6th) Time that I have seen her over many years of being a huge fan! I loved her improved "Change my pack" song. She is so quick and an amazing musician. I mean played at least 2 of her piano/keyboard/midi/Harmonium if not more in each song and at the same time. I loved the story of Tori and her Daughter talking about doing the Tori doing a cover of Britney Spears' "Hit me baby one more time". Her daughter said that Tori did not know the song. And that Tori didn't know ANY songs. Very typical Mother Daughter exchange. I do wish the "Lizard Lounge" section of the show where it is just her with her piano was longer. I had great seats 14 back middle in Orchestra. So I could really see her face and feel her presence that filled the Paramount Theater . I would recommend seeing Tori Amos to anyone. Even if you are not a huge fan. The experience of being with all the tori Fans and how Tori's music affects them is palpable.

  • Abnormally Attracted to Sin Tour/ Tori Amos

    by 831831 on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

The Paramount Theater in Oakland, Ca. is only the MOST gorgeous theater to see anything in... but Tori fills it's walls as if somehow, decades later, she was who the theater was built for. The lighting and stage design was simply brilliant, offering loads of colors and delightful surprises. Tori's dress was made to change color with the lighting so she was constantly shifting her skin, so to speak. Her voice was pure even if the mic was a bit sharp. Her energy fantastic and her talent represented to perfection, (as it has been all three times I've seen her). She sang songs ranging from her most current album to songs from her history that my daughter has not heard her perform in any of the six concerts she's seen her in for the past ten years. Then she shocked us with a song that came to her and said, "Play me tonight." Who would have thought Tori could pull off Brittney Spears in such an amazing way!! She came out for two encores. There was a bit of "lights in the eyes" for we in the audience that got old quick, but other than that........ transforming! Wish that I had an iPhone so that my video and pix were better.

  • Tori is just okay this time around

    by bfairbanks on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 3 out of 5

This is the fourth or fifth time I've seen Tori Amos and I thought she turned in a solid performance, but I've definitely seen her do a better show than this one. The band was definitely top notch, too. But it didn't seem like she hit quite the same level I've seen in the past and come to expect from her. Perhaps the energy just wasn't there or she wasn't feeling it that night. It's hard to pin down exactly. The last time she played the Paramount Theatre was certainly a better concert. The sound was fine overall, with maybe a bit too much bass. Tori played many of the songs off the new CD as well as some wonderful older tunes. I was a bit disappointed she didn't play Welcome To England, which is one of my favorite tunes off of her newest CD. I really enjoyed the opening band, One Eskimo. I've never heard them before and liked what they had to offer. I definitely want to check out more of their music. The most disappointing aspect of this show had to be the behavior of the audience. I've never been to a concert where so many people were constantly walking up and down the aisles. Tori played for about 2 1/2 hours and there were people coming and going throughout her set. I felt that was very disrespectful to her as a performer and also very distracting for those of us who remained seated and really wanted to watch the show. I don't know if this is a recent phenomenon or if this happens at a lot of shows but I'd never experienced it before. People, stay in your seats!

This is was my 10th time seeing Tori! It was a strong start and an amazing finish. She hit a variety of songs from her new album as well as from old. She did songs that I had not heard live before which was awesome.

I am a huge fan of Tori Amos. This is my 10th time seeing her and she just gets better each time. She sang a lot of songs from her Scarlet's Walk Cd. The crowd was really into it. It was just great anyway you look at it. If you haven't seen her it's a must.

  • 5 Stars For Tori Amos

    by Smartistic on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

This was my fiirst Tori Amos concert. I was so impressed because she really does sound the same LIVE as she does on her recordings. She has an amazing voice, her stage presence was fun and sexy. I'm a new fan (I literally started listening to her a few months ago) and realised I've been missing out on a huge talent.

  • Always good

    by litebeams on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Tori Amos at the Paramount before and its one of my favorite venues. She sounded fantastic and sang many of her new songs and did a bit of adlibbing as well. She is a show person , always looking great and being personable with her audience.

  • Star lit Melodic Wonder

    by Iam009 on 7/14/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

The Tori Amos show last night at the Paramount in Oakland was phenominal. I had seen Tori two times prior and those were good too, but this one was truely magical. The Paramount is rad, but Tori's show had super fantastic lighting and great sound, which really set the mood for a lovely show. Her voice was resonant and lovely as always and her band was pretty cool. I was impressed with the guitar/bass player because he played multiple instruments including a floor pedal that served as a bass. Tori had two encores. I was excited because in her set and encores she spanned across pretty much every album. I loved it when Tori played alone during her band mates' intermission. Thank you so much Tori Amos for a wonderful show. <3
