  • Always AWSOME T. Amos!

by smiley57 on 7/17/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Tori Amos,as always is the consummate entertainer! Combined with the wonderful venue -Humphreys by the bay" you couldn't ask for a more perfect evening! Her set included new and old songs and her rendition of Little Earthquakes took me back to when I saw her on her first tour at The Coach House, back then it was just Tori and her piano. It has been a privilege to see her grow into the performer she is now! It was a magical evening!

  • Tori Rocks! and she's hot too!

by Edsbeds on 7/17/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Great day for a concert...The heat from the day may have subsided but Tori brought it back when she took the stage...Unfortunately, her vast amount of material could not be accomodated in the 1 1/2 hr show....Hope Tori liked the venue as this was her first time at Humphreys'...hope to see her in the future...

  • Amazing show, awesome venue

by cdnexpat on 7/17/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Humphrey's is always an awesome place to see shows -- great food (the dinner & show package is a fabulous deal) and relaxed outdoor concerts by the bay. It only got better with Tori's intimate performance. I've seen Tori about 10 times over the past 14 years and this was the best show I've seen.

  • She Really is the Little Mermaid on Acid

by Shellzebub on 7/17/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Although I've been a fan since 1996, this was the first Tori Amos concert I've ever attended (this is a really long story). It was definitely worth it. The outdoor location couldn't have been a more perfect setting. Even though I sat in the back of the center section, I could still read the "Bosendorfer" on the side of the piano. Tori came out looking like a mermaid at a disco on a Saturday- well, Thursday- night, high on energy and six-inch platform stilettos. (I guess if you can see her shoes even from the very back, you still have a good seat!) She had maybe two sips of water and touched up her lip gloss, but otherwise she tore through those songs. I did not expect her to have her organ on this tour, but about halfway through the show, the crew brought it out, and she had fun with it. She played some anticipated fan-favorites ("Cornflake Girl," "Precious Things"), plus an amazing version of "Siren." "Past the Mission" is a song that needs to be played with an organ, and she nailed it. The only thing that I didn't like about this event were certain people in the audience. I will never understand why some people will pay a lot of money to see a concert just to fiddle with their cell phones and act like idiots the entire time. But other than that, plus the occasional drunk person stumbling down the aisle, the distractions were minimal. (And the drunken stumbling was really more entertaining than distracting.)

  • A mellow night for Tori

by Dotbear on 7/17/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Tori once again showed the crowd why she has such a loyal following. When she took the stage the crowd jumped to their feet and cheered. She commented on the venue and even said "hello to the people on the boats" that were just off shore. The first set was very mellow and consisted of mostly her new material from "Abnormally Addicted to Sin". She did play her crowd favorites "Little Earth Quakes" and "Cornflake Girl" and that got the audience singing along with her. When she came back from for her encore she picked it up a bit but the entire night felt mellow and low key which is not to say boring. I have seen her here every time she has toured with an album since "Little Earth Quakes", from Chicago to London and this had to have been her most sedate performance to date. It was wonderful to sit and just sing along with such an amazing singer/songwriter.

  • Exquisitely Soulful

by sgoldbla on 7/17/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Have been a long time fan of Amos ever since her debut with Little Earthquakes. I saw Tori Amos a few years ago at Spreckels Theatre for the first time and again last night at Humphreys. She's amazing. Soulful. Seductive. Her artistry as a pianist paired with her unique voice brings her storytelling to life--live! She plays two pianos at once...grand piano, organ, synthesizer-type thing. Although she typically tours when she has a new album, I love that she doesn't stick to singing just the new album songs. She's got a huge catalogue of music and gifts her concert goers with a generous sampling of songs from various albums. She's not to be missed. For myself, I'm a convert: any time she plays in San Diego, I'm there.

  • Awesome

by Fyremaven on 7/17/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

The folding chairs were a little hard, otherwise the show was awesome. Opening act was super, very much a surprise. Would have been nice to hear a couple of Tori's old standards but they weren't brought out.

  • Tori is the bomb

by Katwoman67 on 7/17/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

I have seen her 5 times now and this was one of the best performances I attended. She really gives you your money's worth and is so amazing to watch. My only suggestion would be that I wish she would play just a few more older songs, perhaps from Little Earthquakes. I am very happy though, that she plays "Precious Things" most of the time....still love that the most I think. Tori rocks!

  • Tori @ Humphreys = Seriously good time

by sdAwesomeness on 7/17/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

As always, Tori commanded presence on stage and played an awesome set. Humphreys was an excellent venue and at sundown it was a perfect view. I have a craving for more.

  • Awesome

Excellent concert. This was so much fun to take my girl to.

  • Tori Amost was the best show EVER

by Prema on 7/16/09San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

Tori rocks the house. This woman has so much energy and talent it is off the hook. Her outfit was great, and the lighting was amazing. Her opening act One Eskimo was just so so. They may have been on drugs and didn't say their name clearly and the lead singer was hopping up and down a lot like a dork. We sat in row 18 in the center, great seats we could see everything and the sounds was great. Next time closer would be better, like minimum row 9 because it was difficult to make out the faces and it would have been more personal and enjoyable.

  • been wanting to see Tori, where is she next?

    by labrat on 7/16/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

A nice mix of current stuff and her older work, done well. Handicapped by my seat, under the balcony 1/2 off center it was really bass heavy and muddy, late in the show I was able to move to the center and it sounded SO much better. Glad I went but I am going to pony up for a better seat or skip it next time.

  • Tori Amos

by lfrost on 7/16/09San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

This was an amazing concert. She sang songs that I've never heard her do live before-some of her more eclectic stuff. It was amazing! She even played a couple of songs that appear nowhere.

  • Tori Rules!

    by Ajax23 on 7/16/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

From her first notes Tori cast a magical spell over the crowd and kept everyone enraptured. Her dynamic energy never seemed to lag; songs flowed effortlessly from one to the next and she sang them all from the heart. What a great artist! No 20 piece entourage on stage, just Tori and her keys and 2 great sidemen on bass and drums. Highly recommended and one of the best concerts I have ever been lucky enough to attend.

  • Tori Amos was soooooooooo amazing!!!!!!!!

    by Jillebean on 7/16/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Tori Amos was amazing, her voice, the stage, the acoustics, overall it was a fantastic performance. Even for the last few songs the audience was allowed to flood up to the stage to see her up close. The ability of skill that Tori has is amazing to watch, like the singing, doing computer effects, and playing the piano all at the same time keeping her cool. The only bad thing was the seating. Originally, the seating chart showed us where we were, and my friend and myself were excited to see that we got tickets in the first few row. It turned out that we were so far in the back, that we couldn't really see what she looked like until the end of the concert. Fan friendly and non violent since it was an assigned seating event.

  • Better than ever.

by Prajna on 7/16/09San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

Tori has been my all time favorite artist since I first saw the "Crucify" video on MTV in 1992 (I was 12). I love her and totally appreciate her mad genius. However, I haven't seen her live since the "Choirgirl" tour, so I didn't know what to expect. I was so pleased! Not only does she still have it, Tori is better than ever. She continues to grow and evolve as a songwriter, musician, and performer, and tuesday night's concert was absolutely riveting. We had great seats in row 6, the sound was good (bass was a little overpowering to the piano), Matt and Jon were smokin, and Tori proved to me once again why I will always consider her the peak of musical perfection. I only wished she would have told a story, as she is a great storyteller, but the night was clearly about the music. She was IN IT. She is refined, graceful, powerful, ferocious, playful, funny, intimate, and completely mad in the best way. Bravo!

  • Tori is precious after all these years

    by jessyjessy on 7/16/09Paramount Theatre-Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Listen, I stuck with her after American Doll Posse and it was worth it. I love, love the drums and heavier sound she has these days. She is smoking hot.

  • Terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrific!

by DaniCalifornia on 7/16/09WaMu Theater - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Amos' performance was great! Rarely artists sound better live then on their edited albums - but she defintely does. What a voice! Tori casts a spell over you, you get lost in her music. Great accoustic in the theater and intelligent lighting - supportive not disturbing :) I wish I could go tomorrow again

  • Tori was amazing!! Lights were annoying!!

by ToriFan650 on 7/16/09San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 4 out of 5

As usual, Tori Amos was incredible, but the lights shinning towards the audition were awful. I found myself closing my eyes so much and missing out on seeing her play. Even though the lights drove me nuts, I would definitely go again.

  • Tori was Awesome. The lighing guys... ? Meh

by TrickyD on 7/16/09San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 4 out of 5

Tori put on an excellent show! This was my first time seeing her live, and she DID NOT disappoint. Wow. So much confidence and sass. The sound was quite good. The only thing that took away from the show was the lighting. Overall, it could have been much more compelling, and the lighting tech must have forgotten that there were people in the balcony that actually wanted to be able to look at the stage. More than once, everyone around me had to cover their eyes because the strobes and spots from the stage were super bright on the balcony. I really wanted to enjoy the spectacle. but it was just plain painfull. But all in all. My hat goes off to Tori and her crew for putting together an excellent performance. I love that put a new spin on so many album favourites.
