About

Tootsie is a Tony Award-winning stage production of director Sydney Pollack’s beloved 1982 comedy film. Like Pollack’s film, the musical revolves around a struggling soap actor who adopts a new identity as a woman to land more roles, while serving as a love letter to Broadway. Tootsie features a Tony-winning book by Robert Horn and a score by 2018 Tony winner David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit). The musical premiered in September 2018 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago before premiering on Broadway in April 2019. Tootsie is now touring across North America, with a regional premiere at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, Maine. The cast has included Drew Becker as Michael Dorsey and Dorothy Michaels, Ashley Alexandra as Julie Nichols, Payton Reilly as Sandy Lester, Lukas James Miller as Max Von Horn, Jared David Michael Grant as Jeff Slater, Kathy Halenda as Rita Marshall, Steve Brustien as Stan Fields and Adam du Plessis as Ron Carlisle.

    Great Show

by Lisa on 9/27/22Rochester Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

Very funny. Actors/Actresses were great. Songs and dialogue were so creative. Such a joy to see. Recommend for adults, some swearing and adult humor not for kids.

Not as professional as other shows

by Debkrueg on 9/27/22Rochester Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

The cast did not seem as professional as many other shows we have seem. Vocals, dancing and overall stage presence we not up to professional standards. The set was nice. Choreographer was good. Enjoyed male sidekick.

    Tootsie: So much fun.

Loved the supporting acting roles. Male lead was disappointing. Very funny show. Highly recommend.

    What I really thought!

by Nana on 9/24/22Rochester Auditorium Theatre - Rochester

My husband was not feeling well just before we were to leave. After calling 7 friends, I was unable to find anyone to come with me. At almost 83, I jumped in the car and made my way to the Auditorium. And to think that I almost missed Tootsie! It was absolutely terrific! The story, the music, the acting were all superior. The comedic timing was impeccable. I was on the edge of my seat. A most enjoyable evening!

    Entertaining

by Catster on 5/18/22Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

I enjoyed the play however the story line was changed and many parts in the movie were left out which I think should have been included and probably could have if there wouldn't have been so much singing and dancing by the company. I wouldn't go see it again

    Not superb, but worth going.

    by athas17 on 5/18/22Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

I laughed throughout the entire show, but it wasn't an outstanding production. The main character spoke way too fast and didn't enunciate. Luckily, there were open captions on a board next to the stage that I could refer to often. At the end of the show, the lead sniffled a lot, so perhaps he had a cold and that was the reason he wasn't speaking clearly. He did a great job though with a difficult role. His female singing voice was outstanding LOL. The guy who played his roommate was amazing, as was their friend "Sandy".

    It was terrible.

by Brooke on 5/18/22Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

It felt like I was watching a very amateurish college production of a musical. I hated the libretto. I hated the score. The actor who played Max was very good; the rest of the cast was terrible.

    Not good at all

by Rusty on 5/18/22Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

Whatever have they done to a sweet film like Tootsie! It is now a confused, politically correct mess. By changing Tootsie's work place to a Broadway show, believability goes out the window. We never see a real version of the bad play so Tootsie's revisions make NO SENSE.

    Okay

by MC on 5/16/22Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

It had some entertaining and funny parts, but overall it was an average musical. It didn't excite me. Wouldn't recomend.

    Fun, Funny, But Just OK...

by Hollywood Author on 5/16/22Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

This is a by-the-numbers musical with nothing truly memorable. It's some good laughs, some nice sets, and some decent acting and singing. The songs are entirely forgettable, even as the tunes serve to advance the story. The first third of the first act is painfully slow until "Dorothy" appears, and then things pick up. The rest of the show is like an unremarkable sitcom with singing and dancing grafted on top. Aside from forgettable songs, nothing is necessarily wrong, but there's not much right either. No amazing voices, no riveting performances, no spine-tingling live moments. Just some good comic timing. See this show if you really crave musical theater. But really, there are better shows out there.

    Really fun show

by Pam on 5/11/22Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

Thought the adaptation and updating of the play was well done. The love interest being overweight blew my mind because I can relate. The music by David Yazbek was catchy and funny. Enjoyed the performances. Sets were great. The Dolby Theatre was beautiful.

    Cute show

by RB on 5/11/22Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

The show was cute but the sound system was awful. The lead was very muffled which is too bad because he had a great voice. Also, we were sitting in Orchestra Left at the far aisle. Those seats should be marked as obstructed view. Very disappointed in that.

    Mediocre

by Bigcat on 5/11/22Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

Had its moments- sound was not great. Main actor has this constant nervous clap. This was very annoying to all of us in the section. If that was intentional then that is on the director. Some of the humor was good. Best two characters were the roommate and friend.

    It was okay

by Theater Lover on 5/11/22Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

I thought it was just okay. The jokes were pretty stale and predictable but the acting was good.
