  • Amazing Night!!

by Anonymous on 7/18/12Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Had a GREAT time! Loved everything about the concert. Singers did a great job keeping us entertained and dancing throughout the whole night! If only Maxi Priest had made it as well. Next time!!

  • Ziggy should have been the headliner

    by ReggaeDan4N on 7/18/12Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Let me start by saying I am the biggest reggae fan you will find. So, when I heard the legends were all playing together at the bowl I was thrilled. However, overall I was very disappointed in this concert. My disappointment started when I found out that Maxi Priest wasn’t going to play due to “Visa” issues. Next was when I discovered that Toots was going to headline instead of Ziggy. Don’t get me wrong, Toots has been one of the biggest stars of Reggae for decades, but if this performance was indicative of his current state, it’s time for him to retire. My disappointment in Toots started when he came out wearing a ridiculous outfit that resembled General Zod from Superman 2. Then throughout the entire performance he was holding the mic down by his belly button & we couldn’t hear a word he was singing. All we could hear was his back-up singers. I’m not sure if he’s just too old, or the tour is too long, but it was an extremely uninspired performance from Toots. Freddy McGregor was solid as usual, & Ziggy was great in his set-up role, but in my opinion ZIGGY is the headliner & Toots in the set-up act. I went to Ziggy at the bowl last year & it was great, this year not so much. I will have to see the line-up next year & decide if it’s worth going back.

  • Disappointed Reggae Fan

I look forward every summer to attend Reggae night at the Hollywood Bowl. I was disappointed this year, being that the show did not meet their expectations to “Legends of Reggae.” Ziggy Marley and his organization put this show together and have done a fabulous job in the past. Ziggy came out to perform and had the crowd standing up and dancing and feeling good. He left the stage too soon and welcomed Toot and the Maytals onto the stage. Which by the way brought the morale down. I felt like I was in Church at one point and was wondering where the heck did the roots of reggae music go. The crowd and I expected to see Ziggy come back and finish the concert but that was not the case. From a great opening to a very disappointed ending to a beautiful summer evening.

  • Reggae legends with Ziggy Marley

Great show and Freddie McGregor filling in for Maxi Priest was awesome Bob Marley would be happy to see where reggae has come and how his son has led the way

For the most par a good show...Bob Andy and Freddie McGregor were very good, although I never heard of them before. Ziggy Marley was excellent, but I wished he was on longer and did a few more of his father's songs...THe only bummer was Toots & The Maytals...I've seen them before and they were a lot better then...THe mix on Toot's mic was awful, you could barely hear his lyrics...and his song choices also left something to be desired...maybe he should take a tip from Glenn Campbell and make this his final tour...Left halfway through his set, it was that bad!

  • Great concert!

We had a wonderful evening! Can't wait for next year's lineup. Always look forward for Reggae night at the bowl. Was very disappointed about Maxi not being there, but great performers overall.

  • I've been to better reggae at the bowl

    by Mamacakes710 on 7/17/12Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

This reggae night was OK. The reggae was pretty slow and mellow, and it seemed like the artists were playing less classic reggae and more elevator reggae.

  • Freddie M was the BEST!

by AELA on 7/17/12Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Very disappointed that Maxi Priest did not perform!! Bob Andy and Freddie M. were both GREAT!! Ziggy put on a good show but the sound system did not ound as good as ealier in the concert.

Fantastic. Great performances. I would highly recommend this event for all ages, genders and nationalities which were represented in kind.

Maxi Priest was a no-show. Was very disappointed that we weren't informed prior to the show. It seems like he has this problem several times a year.

  • Reggae night Tough Gong worldwide salutes legends

by Goecogreen on 7/17/12Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Overall I would love to give a 5 star rating but several major disappointments occurred. 1. Maxi Priest was a no show -and although Ziggy was the main headliner the no show (understand he had visa issues in the UK -will research that for validity). Maxi was our main reason for attending... 2. We understood that Ziggy would fill Maxi's spot in the lineup, but also it was understood that he would perform also in his own spot as the headliner - meaning the final performance. 3. Toots and the maytels performed last - and worst. Let me say, if it were not for the female vocalists they would have been worse than horrible. The bass was cranked up to the point that it appeared intentional to drown out Toots and his singing. I have been a fan for many years - but after that performance I might suggest retirement.horrible, horrible, horrible. 4. With such a horrible sound I was really looking forward to another (even short) performance by Ziggy...... Well that didn't happen, so after 30 minutes plus of excruciating noise from Toots, the show was over. I will always recommend the Marleys, been a fan of Bob for sincev1974, but if I see Toots in the lineup I will think 2,3,4 times before spending my money.

  • Toots Band Really Off

by ReggaeForever on 7/17/12Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Ziggy and Freddie were good. Toots' band could not get it together. The beat was completely off. I am a huge fan but was very disappointed because Toots did not interact with the audience much and the band was continually out of step with him. He kept looking at them, then he just gave up and was acting goofy - really poor performance - very disappointing.

This the 2nd time i've been to this festival and would go again. There's always a good vibe in the crowd. Fun times as always! Oh and it's always fun to bring your little picnic with you to these events!

  • no show

by bopsman on 7/17/12Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

  • Tuff Gong was loaded!

    by SE0123 on 7/17/12Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 2 out of 5

Ziggy was fantastic, however Tuff Gong was LOADED the whole time, which was disapppointing....couldn't even sing his songs. The spotlight cameras focused on the backup singers and the keyboard guy, etc, for good reason. Glad I didn't pay for box seats. We still made the best of it and had fun. Ziggy rocked it.

  • Lukewarm at best

by JamCanMama on 7/17/12Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 2 out of 5

Bob Andy and Freddie Mcgregor nuff respect! Great performances. Ziggy was ok but crowd in section E only came alive when he sang one Bob Marley hit. Toots was rubbish ! Sound was off and he seemed to be singing at a geriatric pace. First time in my life I walked out of a Reggae show before it was over.
