The Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl is an annual college football game held in El Paso, Texas. Established in 1935, the first Sun Bowl was played between two Texas high school teams, but moved to a collegiate-level matchup the following year. The Sun Bowl is tied for the second-oldest active college football bowl game and has historically been played on or around New Year’s Eve. Hosted on the University of Texas at El Paso campus since 1938, the Sun Bowl switched to its current home at Sun Bowl Stadium when construction was completed in 1963. The Sun Bowl was initially home to the former Border Conference, but as of 2011, the two opponents are selected from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Pac-12 Conference. In 2025, the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl game will kick off on December 31 at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas.

Great atmosphere, Sun Bowl finally picked teams that have fans that go to any bowl game! Bad halftime show selection!
stadium full it was awsome we have attended for the past 13 years and this was one of the best one yet the game wasent much to talk about
This event was unforgetable. Excellent atmosphere, venue, location, hospitality, and teams participating. Will continue to support this event for as long as it runs.
Well it was freezing cold. I noticed there was no portable heaters around. That would of been nice to have. The game itself wasnt very good Miami didnt show up. But that was a good thing I left after the 3rd quarter it was just to cold.
Great game... watching my Alma Mater beat Miami and having my daughter as one of the Sun Bowl Princesses (Elisa) was a memorable occasion. Ricardo
There was not very much football action from the Miami team, but we enjoyed watchin Norte Dame live.
This was my 14 year old son's first college football game! As his mother, I'll never forget the excitement on his face and in his voice when he stepped into the stadium to locate his seat. Our seats were located on the 12th row near the 30 yard line -- he was extremely excited!! Who would have thought I would have captured such great seats through the "quick" Ticketmaster system online? Thanks to everyone for making this a memorable experience for me and my son!
Great atmosphere. The cold weather made the event really nice. The Sun Bowl is a really nice venue.
Great time, great seats but the COLD was a bummer. Coffee and hot chocolate were gone before the end of the first quarter.
Not an interesting, competitive game as expected from the beginning. Weather unusually too cold. Good entertainment from Golden Knights to patriotic half time show. Notre Dame had great band performance.
it was cold like hell, but i got see my favorite team play. my miami hurricanes lose but it was worth it.
I go to this event every year & will continue going.
Amazing work with the snow! Restrooms, Great! Buses Amazing/ small lines!
Thank you El Paso for the wonderful time we had at the Sun Bowl! We arrived Wednesday and stayed until Saturday. We attended every possible event from the Rotary Club luncheon to the (shortened) Notre Dame pep rally, to the Fiesta and tailgate and, of course, the GAME. Every event was well planned to provide visitors a fun time and a taste of west Texas culture. Every person we came in contact with wanted to make sure we were having an enjoyable time - true southern and Texan hospitality. Everyone kept apologizing for the weather - as if that was something they should have, or could have, controlled. We would certainly come again - especially if Notre Dame is playing!
The Sun Bowl stadium at UTEP is amazing. Not a bad seat in the house and the way it is constructed into the mountain is awesome. However, lines are horrendous for the restrooms (not just for the ladies' room). The concession stands ran out of certain food and drink items well before half time. It snowed the night before the game and there was ice all over the stadium. They did not even bother to put down salt to keep fans safe. Aluminum bench seats in the stands had a half inch of ice frozen to it. Luckily we came prepared with tools to chip the ice off and we had a towel to dry the seats and then a blanket to sit on. Others weren't so well prepared and couldn't even sit in their seats. We had checked the weather too and were prepared. Forecasters had predicted 58 degree weather and instead it was 29 degrees and ice was everywhere. My advice if you go...be ready for ANYTHING. The stadium is nice, but old and be ready for massive lines to use the bathrooms, come prepared with your own food since the concession lines are long and take mass transit when possible. It is cheap and the best way in and out of UTEP.
They always do a great job for the game. I go every year.
The stadium was not ready for this large of a crowd. There was only one portable bathroom in our tailgating area and in the stadium they had limited restrooms as well. They should have rented more bathrooms to avoid the 30-45 minute bathroom wait.
It was an excellent Sun Bowl game: Notre Dame vs. Miami, but we almost missed it. First, the ticket lines moved quite slow, and the event staff did nothing to prevent people from cutting to the front of the regular line, when people were using the player-family/VIP line entrance. Second, the General Admission tickets were oversold and so many people had to stand for much of the game. Finally, I do commend the Sun Bowl for providing Porta-Johns, in addition to the regular bathrooms, but there were still too few, at least for the guys. The lines had to be 15+ deep. I go to UTEP for grad school, and they definitely need to to train the event staff for a game of this size. I think they thought it would be like a typical football game. One suggestion. Have a line for people without purses/bags, like most stadiums and parks. This allows others to get through the line quicker that were smart enough not to bring these unneeded items.
PepRally place too small, Fan Fiesta OK, Block Party stunk - wasted money
Unusually chilly Sunbowl but still a great event. The pregame show, the half time show were terrific! Great win for ND!
