About

The Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl is an annual college football game held in El Paso, Texas. Established in 1935, the first Sun Bowl was played between two Texas high school teams, but moved to a collegiate-level matchup the following year. The Sun Bowl is tied for the second-oldest active college football bowl game and has historically been played on or around New Year’s Eve. Hosted on the University of Texas at El Paso campus since 1938, the Sun Bowl switched to its current home at Sun Bowl Stadium when construction was completed in 1963. The Sun Bowl was initially home to the former Border Conference, but as of 2011, the two opponents are selected from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Pac-12 Conference. In 2025, the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl game will kick off on December 31 at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas.

It was a very good Football game.. I think the entertainment could have been better. I do enjoy BJ Thomas but It's a half time" show"... Excitement, dancing, crowd involvement, was just NOT there.. I feel there could have been more to this half time show. It showed a lack of effort with the production .. from a scale of 1-10... 4... hooo, hummmm, yawning.....

Our family looks forward to the Sun Bowl game every year. In the past, the events usually provided good entertainment for the family. A couple of things that usually stand out is the Fan Fair and the half time show. This year, the Fan Fair was poorly organized with the same band and the same events for the kids. It is only my feeling that we could do a better job of showing our amazing culture to our guests rather than have a weak band and Elvis. While looking around it seems as if our visitors from out of town were bored to tears. I would advise using more creativity when entertaining those of us who frequent the game every year and especially those who are from out of town. It was a bit embarrassing. The half time show has to be one of the worse I have ever seen. Despite the artist that nobody knew, the stage was not decoragted and the people on the field seemed to be very confused. I remember when the half time show was all that was discussed. Don't get me wrong...thankfully the game was very good and the fireworks were amazing. I would avoid doing the exact same thing year after year. I would love to help in thinking of more creative things to do in the future!

HAd a blast, great games, the locals filled the stands too and madit fun. Stadium was cool and had plenty of bathrooms. Not a lot of parking so leave early, but be prepared to mingle with tailgaters on the way in. I will be back...Also Sunbowl officials did it right... giveaways to fans and vendors galore....

  • Sun Bowl success

by MountainViewer on 1/2/12Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5

Great game, great seats, great weather, smooth logistics. Highly competitive game between two enthustiastic university fan bases. No obnoxious fans. Highly efficient logistics in the stadium, on the campus, and throughout El Paso metro area to make visitor experience as enjoyable as possible. 70 degrees & sunny. El Paso municipal shuttle system started and ended the event on a very positive note -- $3 round trip, about 15 minutes each way, very courteous & professional transit staff. Lots of concession alternatives. Professional & sufficient usher & security staff. Texas DPS & 12,000 US Army soldiers in stadium, so very secure event.

by Brutus00 on 1/2/12Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 4 out of 5

We had a great time at the Sun Bowl. Besides it being a great game, the weather was perfect! The shuttle service from parking was great. The half time show was a little weak but enjoyed it! This was my first Sun Bowl as a new El Paso resident but it will be an annual event for us! The Fan Fiesta on Friday night is fun for the kids, jump houses, Battle of the Marching Bands, food and fireworks! Fun, Fun!!

by yuriosky on 1/2/12Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 4 out of 5

the event was well coordinated and done. this stadium needs, however, to vastly improve the tickettaker process as fans file in. it is the slowest of any facility i have ever been to.

Watching our Utah Utes win was the best! We live for our Utes! Great bowl win for their first year in the PAC 12.

  • Irish tame the Hurricanes with cold weather!

by lakeshow35 on 1/9/11Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 4 out of 5

the stadium is etched into the side of a mountain which is cool and there are concessions everywhere. The event was nice despite the cold weather. Notre Dame had the game won with about 13 minutes left in the 2nd qtr. The entertainment was well worth the money. Event is garnering higher profile teams and I would recommend the event if quality teams are present.

  • Fabulous Venue - Terrible Weather

by Gringarita on 1/5/11Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 4 out of 5

Sun Bowl is always a fun event. Setting of stadium in the mountains is beautiful. But the weather didn't cooperate this year. Part of the draw is the SUN. He didn't make an appearance. bathroom lines are horrendous; not a good selection of beer; stadium benches should have been cleared of snow.

  • awesome time

City of El Paso and Sun Bowl committee should be proud. We took the city bus off remcon. So much easier than looking for parking which is not available. Awesome field and great team selections. But then again, I attend this event every year and have never been dissapointed.

I went to the University of Miami, my school/team forgot to show up. I was so disappointed. At leeast i got to see my in-laws. It was also 22 degrees at game time. but, if you ever get to go to the Sun Bowl go for it. Beatiful view.

Game was dominated by ND, so by the half time the game was kind of boring

  • Sun Bowl was Awesome!!

by GreenK on 1/4/11Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5

We had a terrific time. Yeah, it was cold but the game was HOT. The Notre Dame team and band were WONDERFUL. We had great seats, great food, and really nice people around us from all over the nation. Lee Greenwood was a nice touch. The military was recognized and that was important to me. My son is in Afghanistan and we are very proud of him.
