About
The Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl is an annual college football game held in El Paso, Texas. Established in 1935, the first Sun Bowl was played between two Texas high school teams, but moved to a collegiate-level matchup the following year. The Sun Bowl is tied for the second-oldest active college football bowl game and has historically been played on or around New Year’s Eve. Hosted on the University of Texas at El Paso campus since 1938, the Sun Bowl switched to its current home at Sun Bowl Stadium when construction was completed in 1963. The Sun Bowl was initially home to the former Border Conference, but as of 2011, the two opponents are selected from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Pac-12 Conference. In 2025, the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl game will kick off on December 31 at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas.

Notre Dame!!
by ElPasoIrishFan on 1/2/11Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5Even though it was extremely cold and the stadium seats had a half inch slab of ice on them when we arrived, it was worth every cent to watch the Irish renew their rivalry with Miami!! The Notre Dame win made it all the more superb. The seats provided a great view of all the action. The Sun Bowl needs to provide a lot more bathroom facilities. With the extreme cold, wine would have been a better choice than the cold beer that was sold. Also, there was no hot coffee or hot chocolate by the third quarter.
Sunbowl - My 5th time, Great!
by Paramo on 1/2/11Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5While it was unusually cold with no sight of the sun all day, we enjoyed the game; we are fighting irish fans so we we were all smiles the whole game.

The atmosphere was fabulous. What more could you ask for but 34 degree weather and football on New Year's Eve? And then you have two storied college programs battling it out, and you get an unforgettable experience!
Go Irish
by Clarita101 on 1/2/11Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 4 out of 5Big Problem with entering the stadium. We had to wait at least 30 minutes to get in because the the system was way toooo slow. The Sun Bowl people knew it was a sold out crowd and should have planned better. We planned to get there to see the pre-game events and barely got to see the kick-off. Bathroom trash containers need to be cleaned and/or replaced at half time. The paper on the floor was everywhere and it was unnecessary. Also other trash containers in the stadium needed to be cleaned out after half time. Game was great.
Facility needs upgrade
by Strenuous on 1/2/11Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 3 out of 5Enjoyed the game and beautiful setting. Coordination of programs such as halftime and timeouts were also good. However, the Sun Bowl facility itself needs to be upgraded. Entry, exit and fan flow areas were very congested, on the verge of being unsafe. Rest room facilities and concessions were also inadequate.
