About

Hailed as "one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world" by NPR's World Cafe, Tommy Emmanuel got his start at the age of six, when he first began touring his native Australia with his family's band. As a teenager, he earned a reputation as a highly sought after sideman and session player, and by his early twenties, Emmanuel was playing on chart-topping hits and performing with acts like Air Supply and Men at Work. Inspired in part by his hero, Chet Atkins (who would later become a friend, mentor, and collaborator), Emmanuel stepped out on his own as a solo artist in 1979, releasing the first in a string of acclaimed instrumental albums that would make him an unlikely celebrity in his home country and beyond. In the decades that followed, he would go on to headline everywhere from the Sydney Opera House to Carnegie Hall; tour with luminaries like Eric Clapton and John Denver; win a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement; perform for a televised audience of more than two billion at the Sydney Olympics; and collaborate with a who's who of fellow guitar greats, including Les Paul, Mark Knopfler, Joe Walsh, Richard Thompson, Jason Isbell, and Billy Strings.

Recorded in just four days, Emmanuel's latest album, Living In The Light, stands as the most daring--and most rewarding--collection in the globetrotting fingerpicker's remarkable catalog, fusing his pop, jazz, classical, and roots influences into a virtuosic masterwork as exhilarating as it is intimate.

  • Fantastic show!

by Jlm on 10/24/23Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

If you've never been to a Tommy Emmanuel concert, go the next time he's around. He's phenomenal and you won't regret it. We were 1st timers and we'll definitely go see him again.

  • Taft seat fail but Tommy was amazing

by Tennis Lover on 10/24/23Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

We loved Tommy’s show. However, 8 months prior, when we purchased the tickets, we were in Pit row 2. The Taft had a structure for a Sponge Bob show in place of the first two rows, so we were refugees with the other Pit row patrons 6 rows back. We had anticipated being right up front all that time, and it would have been easier to take had we been warned, because it wasn’t the first time this had occurred.

  • Absolutely the best acoustic guitar player in the world.

by Whipper on 10/24/23Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

This was our second time to see Tommy Emmanual. We enjoyed him more this time than the first time. Besides the excellent music, there was a lot of humor. This is a show the whole family would enjoy.

  • Outstanding

by Markos on 10/18/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Easy parking cheap also. Easy entry to the venue friendly staff to point the way, reasonable restroom and concession lines. I had great seats. The opening act was outstanding and Tommy is in a league of his own. I actually got to meet Larry prior to the show and Tommy after. Love the Venue.

  • Tommy Immanuel is Incredible!

by BillK on 10/15/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy Immanuel is an incredible talent, very personable, and puts on a wonderful show. He seems to get an orchestra's worth of music from just one guitar. Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams were a great addition to the recent Indianapolis performance, making for a thoroughly enjoyable evening of entertainment.

  • He Brings All the Emotions!

by Andi H on 10/14/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy Emmanuel never disappoints! I’ve seen him numerous times, and I can hardly stay still in my seat. He brings the energy during his quick tempo songs and can bring tears to my eyes with his ballads. I feel his songs in my soul! The addition of his special guests was awesome. They meshed well! Having Tommy sign my guitar years ago during a meet-and-greet is still so special to me.

  • Wow. Just Wow

by Doctor T on 10/14/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I hadn't heard of Tommy until recently. However, I am so glad that changed. What an artist. Does with an acoustic guitar what no one else can. Musicianship was wonderful. Will definitely go again given the chance. If you are a guitar aficionado this is one of the artists you want to see. In addition, his opening act of Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams were outstanding, and when you throw all 3 on the stage together (along with their outstanding bass player) it was incredible. Highly recommend.

  • I forgot about it.

by Andy on 10/14/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 3 out of 5

I bought the tickets so long ago I completely forgot about the show. So, we missed it. I bought the tickets to take my daughter because she recently started guitar lessons and I wanted her to be inspired.

  • Absolutely fantastic

by Steve on 10/14/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I took a friend who had never seen Tommy. The first comment was wow! The last one was no human being can do that! That about sums it up!

  • Great show, pity about the seats.

by DavidG on 10/14/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Great, great performances by Tommy Emmanuel, Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams - and their bassist. Sat in the third row from the stage with a great view, BUT - the chairs were narrow and crammed together to a ridiculous extent, especially given the size of many folks today. We sat shoulder to shoulder, buttock to buttock, breathing down the neck of the person in front. Could barely stand up to applaud. Why??? And there was loads of space in the venue … Old National Center needs some new seating.

  • Big Daddy

  • Astounding Show

by Sleepy on 9/20/23Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

This show was so impressive and inspirational! It was top notch and Tommy Played flawlessly! Beautiful songs, Fun songs, extremely Fast songs, Slow songs, he was spot on all night! His independent thumb technique ads a sensational and appealing dimension! That talent of his is unprecedented and I rank him as number 1 today, yesterday and so far into the future that I’ll probably never see anyone better on acoustic in my lifetime! The Berchmere crew was very hospitable and attentive! A very nice experience and I hope to return sometime soon! GREAT SHOW TOMMY! THANKS FOR THIS EXPERIENCE BIRCHMERE!

  • None Better

    by T. M. on 9/20/23Rating: 5 out of 5

I knew nothing about Tommy Emmanuel until about six months ago when my girlfriend insisted I purchase tickets to see him at The Birchmere before he sold out. She had seen him on multiple occasions and had high praise for him. So, I bought tickets and waited for the show. He is a superb musician and showman. You could feel the joy in him throughout the performance. He is also the best guitarist I have seen live. As I have told many of my friends, " Go see him whether you need to drive or fly, just go."

  • Great show, musicians, audience! 5*

by Geistux on 9/19/23Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I got tickets for my birthday from my family who lives abroad, they know that I love Tommy’s music and everything he does with the guitar… I saw him in Canada and loved the show as well in Birchmere…was great time with great musicians, me and my vide really enjoyed!!!

  • Tommy Emmanuel

by Kathi on 9/19/23Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Can sum up the experience in one word: AMAZING. Unbelievable what he can do with just a guitar.

  • AWE..MAZING!!!

by Susie on 9/18/23The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy Emmanuel never ceases to amaze...with his incredible command of the instrument...and the genuine way he performs with so much heart and soul! His energy was palpable from when he first stepped out on stage to when he waved good night to the audience. THANK YOU, TOMMY, for making Boston one of your stops as you trot around the globe!

  • Better without the opener

by Helene on 9/18/23The Wilbur - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Still not sure who that opener was (not mentioned at the time of the purchase), or why they took up the entirety of the first act. Tommy is amazing, and he easily carried 2 hours by himself, so he doesn't need them. Saw lots of confused people popping in and out and quizzing the theatre staff about who the opener band was, and why we were subjected to suffering through their screeching without any type of advance warning.

  • What an awesome Entertainer.

by Scott on 9/17/23The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy is just an awesome Entertainer. We didn’t stop smiling. He is just such an uplifting presence. I was in awe. Combination Musician, magician, teacher. Opening act was Terrific Larry Cambell and Teresa Williams and their Bassist Jessie I believe? A memorable experience. Also hats off to staff at The Wilbur.

  • Stunning, breathtaking , beautiful performance!

by BobK on 9/17/23The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

We went to the concert with high expectations - we’d seen Tommy before, but it was a short set at The Grand Ole Opry. We were BLOWN AWAY! He plays with such jaw-dropping virtuosity - you almost can’t believe it, even though you’re seeing it right in front of you! He is also warm and humorous. This is a performance that will recharge your human batteries (you know what I mean). Don’t miss it. (P.S. the warm-up of Larry & Teresa (and an excellent bass player who’s name I sadly don’t remember) was also excellent!)

  • First-time experience: wonderful

by Virgule on 9/17/23The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

[Disclosure: we're in our 80s] We had never heard of Tommy Emmanuel until we saw him perform on our public television station a few months ago. Then we found out he was giving a local concert and ordered tickets. The group that performed before him was excellent but amplified much too loud. I realize that's standard today but it still distracted from our enjoyment of their music, and I can't believe we were the only ones. Tommy Emmanuel was beyond wonderful to extraordinary. Phenomenal technique, an amazing range of styles, an equally amazing range of effects (how do you get so many different sounds, some of them percussion, from one guitar?) And, needless to say, not over-loud. We totally enjoyed his performance and are so glad we went.
