About

Hailed as "one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world" by NPR's World Cafe, Tommy Emmanuel got his start at the age of six, when he first began touring his native Australia with his family's band. As a teenager, he earned a reputation as a highly sought after sideman and session player, and by his early twenties, Emmanuel was playing on chart-topping hits and performing with acts like Air Supply and Men at Work. Inspired in part by his hero, Chet Atkins (who would later become a friend, mentor, and collaborator), Emmanuel stepped out on his own as a solo artist in 1979, releasing the first in a string of acclaimed instrumental albums that would make him an unlikely celebrity in his home country and beyond. In the decades that followed, he would go on to headline everywhere from the Sydney Opera House to Carnegie Hall; tour with luminaries like Eric Clapton and John Denver; win a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement; perform for a televised audience of more than two billion at the Sydney Olympics; and collaborate with a who's who of fellow guitar greats, including Les Paul, Mark Knopfler, Joe Walsh, Richard Thompson, Jason Isbell, and Billy Strings.

Recorded in just four days, Emmanuel's latest album, Living In The Light, stands as the most daring--and most rewarding--collection in the globetrotting fingerpicker's remarkable catalog, fusing his pop, jazz, classical, and roots influences into a virtuosic masterwork as exhilarating as it is intimate.

  • Absolutely amazing!

by VivianL on 12/3/23Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Tommy Emmanual last summer on a Keeping the Blues Alive cruise out of Athens, Greece. I bought my tickets 8 months ago when they went on pre-sale. Snagged second row seats. What a show Tommy put on! He is an amazing acoustic guitar virtuoso. The sound he can make come out of one guitar is mindboggling. I didn't know there was an opening act as the advertising or venue did not include that information. What a treat though. Jeffrey Douglas, 14 time Grammy winner who plays the Dobro lap steel guitar (he plays with Allison Krauss and Union Station) and double bass player Daniel Kimbro, Grammy nominated.

Tommy Emmanuel does things on his guitar which simply appear to be humanly impossible! He is beyond amazing! His down to earth disposition, sense of humor, and God-given talent all work together to provide a magical musical experience! I can’t wait to see him again next year when he comes to Dallas!

First visit to the Majestic - really nice people but the seats were super small and the drinks are pricey

Started with Tommy’s “warm up” Jerry Douglas blew me away This is the 4th Tommy Emmanuel for me and I’d drive anywhere to catch him again. Great musician and wonderful human being

  • Great show.

by JJL on 12/3/23Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy did his usual greatness. For a multiple Tommy concert fan I would like to hear more new songs, as his performance is the same in every show. I am also a big fan of Jerry Douglas, but his time on stage was short due to late start and he shared the stage with bassist Daniel Kimbro, limited the dobro playing by Jerry. The musicians are professional, fun and very talented ….

  • Tommy=Legend

by Brett on 12/1/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy is amazing! My mind was blown when he walked on stage. He is a supreme master of the guitar. It was absolutely amazing to watch him play. The Uptown Theater is a really unique venue. It is so cool that a theater like that has been kept up and is still as nice as it is.

  • No regrets! This man never ceases to amaze!

by Kiki the cyclist on 12/1/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy Emmanuel is the best performer I have ever witnessed perform!! This is the 3rd time I’ve been able to see him and he never gets old. I’m dazed by his brilliance and thrilled by his energy. Do not miss him if you get the chance. You will not regret!

  • Tommy in Concert

by Brenda on 12/1/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy Emmanuel was as spectacular as ever! We have seen him 5-6 times in KC and Lawrence over the last 10-12 years and he always delivers a fantastic show. The musicians with him, Jerry Douglas, and a bass player were excellent as well. We loved the mix of their unique songs and some that were originally recorded by other artists (I.e. Mona Lisa and a Beatles medley by Tommy). We were not impressed by The Uptown Theater. It is obviously an historic old theater, but it seemed cold, dark, and in need of carpet replacement. However, the rows and seats were well marked and nearby parking was free. We prefer to see Tommy at The Midland or somewhere like The Folly.

    by Y8rdoc on 12/1/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

This is my fourth time to see Tommy Emmanuel. He never disappoints. He’s a guitar players guitar player. When it comes to acoustic guitar, nobody can touch him. Jerry Douglas was great. Would recommend seeing Tommy anytime he’s in your area.

  • Best guitarist I have ever seen live

by Jamey on 12/1/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

This concert started with Jerry Douglas, an extraordinary Dobro player. He played several songs solo then introduced a young bassist with the largest upright bass I recall seeing. They played several more songs, including a couple of vocal tunes written by the bassist. The playing was absolutely phenomenal. After a brief intermission Tommy Emmanual came out. His playing is indescribable. Blistering fast technical playing cascading into soaring melodic passages, fantastic percussion simultaneous with the playing, and all on an acoustic guitar. He played for quite a while alone then invited Jerry and the bassist (Daniel something perhaps?) to join him and they took the performances to a whole new level. If you have not heard or seen Tommy Emmanual, I encourage you to check out his YouTube stuff and if he comes to your town by all means go see him. You will not be disappointed!

  • Great show-Seats not as shown when purchased

by seat snob on 12/1/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the show, it was fantastic and I give it five stars!! BUT I purposely purchased my Orchestra Row A seats because the seating chart showed an isle in front of those seats, essentially presenting my tickets as the front row of a section. Got there and there was no isle and several rows of seats directly in front of ours. Additionally there was virtually no leg room between seat rows so if someone in the middle of a row wanted out, EVERYONE in the row had to get up and move to the isles. If I ever decide to go back to the Uptown (at the moment they'd have to pay me to attend their venue), I will be cautious in purchasing their tickets and trusting their seating chart. Do better Uptown. Really disappointed in your ticket purchase experience. Fix it.

  • Greatest 59th Birthday!

by PammaBamma on 10/24/23Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

Taft Theater was beautiful! The crowd was NOT crowded, but thoroughly electrified by Tommy Emmanuel who never fails to amaze. His opening act was very good also. Parking was a breeze. Can’t wait for his next appearance here.

  • Great Guitarist, bad staging

by Buckeye on 10/24/23Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 2 out of 5

Tommy Emmanuel is a great guitarist who gets incredible sounds from his guitar. He is a good performer with a wonderful stage presence. He gets a 5. The fault of the show was the staging. The sound system was turned up much too loud for the venue and it actually hurt one's ears. There were two rows of lights behind the performers. For the warm-up band, the lights were pointed straight at the audience. We were seated in the boxes at the front of the balcony. We could only see the band when those lights were off. When Tommy came out, the lights were choreographed with his music so the lights only occasionally blinded patrons in the upper sections. If I had brought my sunglasses and earplugs, it would have been a more enjoyable experience.

You can NEVER go wrong listening to Tommy Emmanuel. His mastery of the guitar is superb! The addition of Larry Campbell (especially their Civil War theme duet) brought everyone to their feet!!!

  • Pure Magic!

by Gingersleeve on 10/24/23Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy Emmanuel is a musical genius when it comes to playing the guitar. This was the second time I have seen him live in concert and he does not disappoint! Not only does he pay beautifully, but he also has a great sense of humor. As long as he keeps touring, I will keep showing up for his concerts.
