About

Hailed as "one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world" by NPR's World Cafe, Tommy Emmanuel got his start at the age of six, when he first began touring his native Australia with his family's band. As a teenager, he earned a reputation as a highly sought after sideman and session player, and by his early twenties, Emmanuel was playing on chart-topping hits and performing with acts like Air Supply and Men at Work. Inspired in part by his hero, Chet Atkins (who would later become a friend, mentor, and collaborator), Emmanuel stepped out on his own as a solo artist in 1979, releasing the first in a string of acclaimed instrumental albums that would make him an unlikely celebrity in his home country and beyond. In the decades that followed, he would go on to headline everywhere from the Sydney Opera House to Carnegie Hall; tour with luminaries like Eric Clapton and John Denver; win a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement; perform for a televised audience of more than two billion at the Sydney Olympics; and collaborate with a who's who of fellow guitar greats, including Les Paul, Mark Knopfler, Joe Walsh, Richard Thompson, Jason Isbell, and Billy Strings.

Recorded in just four days, Emmanuel's latest album, Living In The Light, stands as the most daring--and most rewarding--collection in the globetrotting fingerpicker's remarkable catalog, fusing his pop, jazz, classical, and roots influences into a virtuosic masterwork as exhilarating as it is intimate.

Tommy owns the guitar from the strap button to the headstock. His virtuosity is unmatched. Five minutes into his set and you know why Chet Atkins put him on his list of Certified Guitar Players. He is also blessed with a great sense of humor and connection with his audience, making for a truly memorable show. Hats off to you, Tommy! (Empire Theater, San Antonio, TX)

I have seen 100’s of great guitarists on stage. This guy is the G.O.A.T. The most incredible performance I have ever seen and will go see him again and again if he returns.

  • Fabulous Performer

by Roberta in San Antonio on 12/7/23Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 4 out of 5

Tommy Emmanuel was FABULOUS....what an amazing performance. The only thing that would have improved the experience is that there was a long wait between the opening performers and Tommy Emmanuel so the concert I paid for started pretty late. I like to get out at a reasonable time, and it made our night quite late.

  • Great Performance!!

by Larry on 12/7/23Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

Our 3rd Tommy Emmanuel concert. He gave his all to his performance, including a poem and his own voice. His warm-up and and accompanists (slide guitar and bass fiddle) were wonderful. Nearly 3 hrs of great music!

  • Dilapidated theater

by George on 12/7/23Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 3 out of 5

Tommy Emmanuel was amazing. But the Charlene McCombs theater was terrible. The theater seats were the chairs you use at a hotel conference room. So uncomfortable. And the floor was thin plywood so anyone tapping their feet would make the floor bounce up and down. My high school auditorium would have been a better place to have the show. I drove home in back pain from the stiff chairs.

  • Best Guitar Player On Earth

by Doctor G on 12/6/23Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

We’ve had the pleasure to hear Tommy Emmanuel several tines. Each time he seems to get better and better. This certainly was one of his best. His musical skills are unsurpassed. It’s his obvious love for touring and playing music that sets him apart from all others. He is just a joy to see and hear every time. Added to that, this time the concert included Jerry Douglas, master of the dobro guitar accompanied by Daniel Kimbro on the bass. These two are great musicians in their own right. Overall this was just an amazing evening in a great venue, the Empire. Thank you Tommy!

  • Fantastic as always

  • Tommy never fails to disappoint

by Laurie B on 12/6/23Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

This was our 12th time to see Tommy live. That should tell you something. Tommy is not only the world's best guitar player, he is also funny, and charming. You can tell how much he loves to make people happy, and he most certainly does through his music and his incredible performance. His guest musicians were awesome as well. If you ever get a chance to see Tommy live in concert, don't miss it!

  • Fantastic artist

by Lucy on 12/6/23Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy is an amazing musician and entertainer! Really enjoyed his music and show. The venue was nice, beautiful old Theatre, small and intimate. Parking was too expensive! Some lots were charging $45! More police presence on the streets would be nice too, panhandlers were aggressive, glad we were in a group. Overall was a great show

  • Incredible Guitarist

by Danny on 12/6/23Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

Wow! What a show. Incredible musicianship and talent from Tommy Emmanuel. He single-handedly generated an orchestra of music while keeping the crowd engaged. If you are a guitar player this is a must-see show. If you are not a guitar-player, this is still a must-see show.

  • Awesome concert from Tommy as Always

by Raul on 12/6/23Charline McCombs Empire Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy gave us his all for almost two hours on Sunday in San Antonio. As always, his virtuosity is hard to describe, you just have to catch him live. It's hard to find another performer with his level of energy this days. Jerry Douglas and Daniel Kimbro didn't dissapoint either, it was a great compliment including the last 3 numbers with all 3 of them together. Definitely want to see that again!

This guy might be the best guitar picker ever. Bring him back soon.

  • Great performance, less than stellar seats.

    by Victorb105 on 12/4/23Majestic Theatre Dallas - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

Tommy put on a great show. He was, however, near the front of the stage and the balcony seats are poorly angled to see that part of the stage. I spent the whole performance trying to see over or around the people in front of me. If I go back to the Majestic I will only get seats downstairs.
