About

Hailed as "one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world" by NPR's World Cafe, Tommy Emmanuel got his start at the age of six, when he first began touring his native Australia with his family's band. As a teenager, he earned a reputation as a highly sought after sideman and session player, and by his early twenties, Emmanuel was playing on chart-topping hits and performing with acts like Air Supply and Men at Work. Inspired in part by his hero, Chet Atkins (who would later become a friend, mentor, and collaborator), Emmanuel stepped out on his own as a solo artist in 1979, releasing the first in a string of acclaimed instrumental albums that would make him an unlikely celebrity in his home country and beyond. In the decades that followed, he would go on to headline everywhere from the Sydney Opera House to Carnegie Hall; tour with luminaries like Eric Clapton and John Denver; win a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement; perform for a televised audience of more than two billion at the Sydney Olympics; and collaborate with a who's who of fellow guitar greats, including Les Paul, Mark Knopfler, Joe Walsh, Richard Thompson, Jason Isbell, and Billy Strings.

Recorded in just four days, Emmanuel's latest album, Living In The Light, stands as the most daring--and most rewarding--collection in the globetrotting fingerpicker's remarkable catalog, fusing his pop, jazz, classical, and roots influences into a virtuosic masterwork as exhilarating as it is intimate.

  • Excellent Concert

by Rod on 12/9/22The Egyptian Theatre - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

The young man that opened the concert was very good. His guitar playing was great and his interaction with the audience was great as well. Tommy was excellent, as usual!! His interaction with the audience was also excellent!! I do wish he had played "Initiation" but maybe next time. I will see him next time!!

  • Great Show

by MS on 12/9/22The Egyptian Theatre - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

There’s probably not much more that has not already been said in accolade to Tommy Emanuel’s guitar playing. However, many people might not realize is the level of entertaining that he does and how energetic his performances are. He has great command of the stage and audience. He is engaging and the music and sound quality is beyond description. If you’ve not seen him perform live, you owe it to yourself to go. I hope I have more opportunities to see him. One of the best shows I have ever seen.

We had seen Mike in a concert with Justin Haywood and were impressed. When he was seen to be returning we wanted to see him again. Tommy was absolutely fantastic and I would go see him again.

Great Show by Tommy and Mike. I will not attend another event Ticketmaster event. I was overcharged and the system used by Ticketmaster should be illegal as was shown by what happened to Taylor Swift. I don't recommend that anyone buy event tickets from Ticketmaster. It's sad that the greed of Ticketmaster overshadowed the show and in part prevented my enjoyment of the music. Never Again Ticketmaster.

  • Virtuoso!

by FranB. on 6/21/22The Cabot - BeverlyRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely, the BEST guitar player I have ever seen. He's phenomenal. His humor and relaxed manner made the show even more wonderful. See him.

I can’t believe I’d never seen him before… Absolutely phenomenal guitarist! But also a great entertainer! Made us laugh and cry… It was a great show and Trevor Gordon Hall was amazing as well!

  • Fantastic show!

by Bob on 6/20/22State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy is unbelievable. Will definitely see him again. The State Theater just installed a/c but apparently don’t know how to run it. The place was like an ice box.

  • It was wonderful!

The opening act, Trevor Gordon Hall was good. Then Tommy came on stage and was super energized! He was entertaining and an excellent musician!

  • Flying fingers

by FFG on 6/20/22State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

We saw his last show at the State “B.C.” (COVID), a few years ago, and were blown away!! This time? : WHOA!! Tommy came out of the gate flying!! He is amazing. A great mix of old, new, a few covers. I play a bit of guitar and it was, for me, a clinic by THE CGP!! My only criticism was that the subwoofer was a mixed a bit loud on both acts, and I love bass. Anyhow, Tommy’s guitar playing was amazing. We enjoyed his “explanations” of his left and right brains. Tommy, PLEASE come back to Portland soon! My wife and I were blown away!

  • Spectacular

    by M. Wayland on 6/20/22State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

First times are the best. First at the State Theater in Portland, very nice historical place. And first time seeing Tommy E. Live. I’ve been a fan for some time (being an acoustic guitar player myself) and seeing him perform was a gift I shall always remember, plus I walked away with a signed T-shirt and signature pick. Treasures.

  • GOAT

    by Steve G on 6/20/22State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Fifth time seeing Tommy spanning 20+ years. Every time I am struck by the conviction that he's the best that ever lived at making a solo acoustic guitar performance dynamic, exciting, dazzling and beautiful. This time was just as terrific as always. He makes the impossible look natural, while make wonderful music that ranges from sensitive beauty to powerful fireworks. The State Theater was a suitable venue, sound was excellent, and entrance and exit were easy.

A great song writer, story teller, guitarist and all around performer, Tommy is even more than the sum of his parts. Great musicians somehow exchange energy with their audiences and it felt like he was playing just for me !

  • TOMMY AND GARETH

by H. S. on 5/17/22Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

The revitalized Parker Playhouse is a beautiful and spectacular venue attended by a warm, friendly and helpful staff. There is not a bad seat in the house and the facility is truly a jewel. There is nothing that can be said about Tommy that has not already been said. Gareth Pearson, whom opened for Tommy and accompanied for a few numbers, may very well be the heir apparent and is worth paying attention to. Do not miss an opportunity to share in entertainment of any type at PPH, for you will be rewarded with an evening to remember.

  • Phenomenal!

by Ginny on 5/17/22Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Best concert I've ever been to! An inspiring mixture of both deeply touching anecdotes and clever, insightful, very funny humor. Meanwhile, the music was absolutely phenomenal. Words can't describe the energy, artistry and passion of Tommy's playing. Out of this world talent from a down-to-earth genius. The venue was lovely, too. Clean and well-designed with a good vibe to it.

  • No doubt one of the greatest guitarists in the world!

by Lisa K on 5/17/22Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy is unique, humble, exquisitely talented. Run to secure a seat any chance you ever get!

  • Emmanuel Extraordinaire

by Jazz Bassist on 5/17/22Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy Emmanuel is the ultimate professional. He prepares like no other performer and keeps you engaged throughout the entire performance. His charming personality and dedication to his craft are evident from beginning to end. During his 1:50 minutes on stage, he was the perfect blend of musicianship, entertainer, comedian and ambassador for all that is good about music. I will definitely go to see him again anytime he is in the area.

  • I wish there were seven stars to give to Tommy Emmanuel!

I feel lucky to be alive at the same time as he. There is simply no one else like him. He is engaging. He is flawless. He is entertaining. I will go to see him any time he is in the area. And I will continue to encourage anyone else to go! There in no one like him - amazing.
