Hailed as "one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world" by NPR's World Cafe, Tommy Emmanuel got his start at the age of six, when he first began touring his native Australia with his family's band. As a teenager, he earned a reputation as a highly sought after sideman and session player, and by his early twenties, Emmanuel was playing on chart-topping hits and performing with acts like Air Supply and Men at Work. Inspired in part by his hero, Chet Atkins (who would later become a friend, mentor, and collaborator), Emmanuel stepped out on his own as a solo artist in 1979, releasing the first in a string of acclaimed instrumental albums that would make him an unlikely celebrity in his home country and beyond. In the decades that followed, he would go on to headline everywhere from the Sydney Opera House to Carnegie Hall; tour with luminaries like Eric Clapton and John Denver; win a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement; perform for a televised audience of more than two billion at the Sydney Olympics; and collaborate with a who's who of fellow guitar greats, including Les Paul, Mark Knopfler, Joe Walsh, Richard Thompson, Jason Isbell, and Billy Strings.
Recorded in just four days, Emmanuel's latest album, Living In The Light, stands as the most daring--and most rewarding--collection in the globetrotting fingerpicker's remarkable catalog, fusing his pop, jazz, classical, and roots influences into a virtuosic masterwork as exhilarating as it is intimate.

An electrifying experience! Tommy Emmanuel's performance was way above our expectations, so we had a smashing time...i
Tommy Emmanuel and The Lexington Opera House are a match made in heaven! He was as amazing as always; and so loving to his Lexington fans. It’s also impressive how mentoring he is to the younger generation of guitarist talents. Gareth Pearson is a future star as well!
I was very happy with the event. The stage lighting was great the sound was great and of course Tommy was wonderful. I have one complaint. The seating did not have any leg room. I was very uncomfortable after a short period of time. I would come back but not sure were I would set. I would recommend going to other people.
Genuinely the most captivating performance I’ve been to in a long time!
Excellent player, excellent Guitar player and great man
Tommy’s talent is evident from his videos but his energy and joy are amazing in person!
Tommy, once again, has more energy in his fingers than just about any living guitar magician. Over the last 10-15 years we have witnessed Tommy LIVE at least 4 times. This outing was outstanding, with the Rio Theatre having great acoustics. An ideal venue for an artist who always strives for such clean sound, without over driving the amplification. Mike Dawes, Tommy's opener, was a very pleasant surprise. Clearly these two like to work together. And Tommy's support for Mike shows how relaxed and smooth Tommy is, along with being proud to introduce us all to Mike's work. While the Rio is 150 miles from home, we consider this one of the top small acoustic venues in California.
I don’t get into ‘who’s the best guitarist’ debates, i just have favorite players. Tommy Emmanuel is at the top of my list of favorites. First saw him live in 2005. That night he went on my (other) list of ‘go see whenever possible’ players. This was my 15th Tommy concert and it was as wonderful and amazing as the first. Tommy says he’s not in show business, he’s in the happiness business. I agree. He and his music make everyone in the audience feel good. It’s a rare gift that he shares freely at every show. And while I stay out of the ‘who’s best’ discussions I will say I’ve never seen anyone better than Tommy Emmanuel. One of my favorite things to do is take someone who’s never experienced a Tommy show. It doesn’t matter if they’re a guitar fan or even much a music fan-without fail, they walk out a Tommy fan. If you don’t know Tommy or only know his music from recordings or YouTube-just go. There really is nothing like being in the room with him playing live.
We had great difficulty with tickets. I transferred the tix from my iPad to my wife’s iPhone for easy entrance. Wrong. Something went wrong and it took us 20 minutes to get in. And others at the door had the same problem. Ticketmaster has to make it easier to use or I will stop using it. Even if it costs me a few shows.
Tommy is simply amazing and always the gentleman entertaining everyone. What a great performer!
The Rio Theater is a wonderful intimate venue. I’ve been a few times, this was the second time to see Tommy Emmanuel. Tommy is a consummate performer, and plays with such obvious joy it a pleasure to watch and hear. He also has a great rapport with the audience and draws everyone together. I will buy tickets to see him any time he comes back. We also really enjoyed Mike Dawes. He has clearly studied Tommy, both on guitar and with his relationship with those at the show. My husband and I sat through the nearly three hour show with huge smiles under our masks. A wonderful experience all around.
Opening act, Mike Dawes is a guitar master in his own right. Mike and Tommy did a few great pieces together. Tommy played old favorites and introduced some newer work as well Liked the variety of genres they touched in the show. And the Rio in Santa Cruz is a great intimate venue.
Tommy Emmanuel is the consumate guitar player. If I did not enjoy playing the guitar so much I would sell everything as I'm not worthy.
The venue was nice, not to large, and Tommy was absolutely amazing. great energy and the most spectacular acoustic guitar performance I've seen.
Tommy is the G.O.A.T.! Still amazing, full of energy and interactive with the audience! Loved every minute. And yay for autographed CD's available for purchase! 2 thumbs way up.
Great except for the explanation and demonstrations of how sounds were created from tapping and scratching on guitar. I would have much preferred listening to more songs. I also thought the tap dancer took away from coming to listen to music. I felt it was something added just for entertainment effect when I paid to listen to a guitar performance.
Tommy never disappoints! This evening was no exception and included something quite unique. Tommy played a duo with a tap dancer which was amazing. He also featured a guitarist from the UK that was quite alot (style wise) like Tommy himself and he too was fantastic. Sadly I'll have to look up his name since I was in the balcony row Z I didn't catch it when he was introduced. He is the next gen Tommy. Probably my favorite song the guitar duo played was a rendition of the Nirvana "come as you are" song. That was fantastically done and of course all of the percussion guitar antics as well. This was my 4th episode of the amazing Tommy Emmanuel show and I hope to see him again soon...
Love every minute! Concert was entertaining from start to finish.
This was the first time that I've seen Tommy in concert. I was amazed with his ability on guitar.
This show was absolutely amazing. Mike Daws and Tommy Emmanuel put on a fantastic show. The guitar playing was second to none. Simply the best guitarist alive today. A once in a lifetime show. If you have a chance to see him live, DO IT!
