About

Hailed as "one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world" by NPR's World Cafe, Tommy Emmanuel got his start at the age of six, when he first began touring his native Australia with his family's band. As a teenager, he earned a reputation as a highly sought after sideman and session player, and by his early twenties, Emmanuel was playing on chart-topping hits and performing with acts like Air Supply and Men at Work. Inspired in part by his hero, Chet Atkins (who would later become a friend, mentor, and collaborator), Emmanuel stepped out on his own as a solo artist in 1979, releasing the first in a string of acclaimed instrumental albums that would make him an unlikely celebrity in his home country and beyond. In the decades that followed, he would go on to headline everywhere from the Sydney Opera House to Carnegie Hall; tour with luminaries like Eric Clapton and John Denver; win a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement; perform for a televised audience of more than two billion at the Sydney Olympics; and collaborate with a who's who of fellow guitar greats, including Les Paul, Mark Knopfler, Joe Walsh, Richard Thompson, Jason Isbell, and Billy Strings.

Recorded in just four days, Emmanuel's latest album, Living In The Light, stands as the most daring--and most rewarding--collection in the globetrotting fingerpicker's remarkable catalog, fusing his pop, jazz, classical, and roots influences into a virtuosic masterwork as exhilarating as it is intimate.

Just when I thought Tommy’s performance couldn’t get any better, it did! He was on fire! 🔥 There was a lot of energy on stage, and his partner in crime, Richard Smith, was just as guilty for a remarkable performance. It was like Chet Atkins & Jerry Reed were on stage when Richard walked back on to trade guitar licks with Tommy. What a great way to spend an evening with two great picker’s. Can’t wait to see Tommy again next year, and hope he brings Richard with him for another stellar performance!

  • The Best Show Ever!

by Eman on 3/12/23Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy Emmanuel and his guest, Richard, put on an incredible show of talent and sheer fun at their concert. Although Tommy was suffering from laryngitis and could not sing, he made up for it with his virtuoso performance, turning his acoustic guitar into a magic carpet that carried the audience away on a musical extravaganza. From driving blues to tender ballads, to amazing drum solos using the guitar as his percussion instrument, Tommy proved again his mastery of the instrument. Original songs were interspersed with classic tunes with a dizzying array of chordal structure. Especially memorable was Richards interpretation of a John Phillip Sousa march and Tommy's rendition of the old hymn, Amazing Grace. It was a night I will never forget.

  • Great Concert, Seats sized for Middle school children

by RustyClaus on 1/25/23Mars Music Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Seats were way to, and I mean way to small. It would have been more comfortable to sit in an air plane seat. (We all know how tight those are.) Thank goodness a line of 5 seats in front of us had no shows, the event was sold out, or we would have been miserable. However, Tommy did not disappoint like always, he played off the chart and we were entertained beyond measure.

It was like watching an eagle soar the way he handled the guitar.

  • Absolutely Fantastic Show

by Wishbone on 1/24/23Mars Music Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first concert since Andy Williams in the early 70's. Tommy is a magician on the acoustic guitar and I'm glad my son recommended I attend. All I can say about his performance is "WOW."

  • “Best concert ever”

    by E. S. on 1/24/23Mars Music Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

While I’d seen Tommy before, my wife hadn’t. Not knowing his music or gifts, she was not super-excited to be going. But watching her in awe the entire show was almost as good as seeing Tommy again. She literally called it the “best concert ever” not just to me but to friends as well! Such a good time!

  • Tommy at His Best

by Don Juan Piezo on 1/24/23Mars Music Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy did a diversified show with some old covers to his newer stuff. Amazingly, he can take his style and make a Chet Atkins song one of his own. The opening act of Gareth Pearson, made a surprisingly great showing. Very similar to Tommy, but different styles on some of his stuff. Overall, we enjoyed it immensely.

Just as personable in person as he appears in the video. And the guitar playing is beyond phenomenal.

  • Incredible experience!

by Bluebird on 1/23/23The Walker Theatre - ChattanoogaRating: 5 out of 5

As a native Chattanoogan who moved away years ago, I had not been into Memorial Auditorium in many years. Walker Theatre did not exist when I lived there. What a wonderful surprise! I loved the intimacy of the setting, the comfort of the "pew" seating, and the acoustics were perfect. There was another event happening in the main auditorium below us, and I was concerned that the sound would drift into our event, but we never heard anything except the phenomenal Tommy Emmanuel. I absolutely loved the whole experience and would jump at the chance to see another event there.

  • Tommy Emmanuel is Incredible!

by Debil on 1/23/23The Walker Theatre - ChattanoogaRating: 5 out of 5

I got the tickets for my husband...thinking I would just go because of him. It was an amazing show!! The opening act, also guitar, was incredible. And then Tommy came. on. Oh. My. Gosh. He was entertaining, an accomplished--beyond accomplished--guitarist, and almost unbelievable. We enjoyed every minute of the concert. And it was fun to be in a sold-out audience who understood and loved the performer.

  • Amazing experience with Tommy at the Joy Theater!

by Bill on 1/20/23The Joy Theater - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

The Tommy Emmanuel concert was absolutely amazing. We were fortunate enough to be in the second row from the stage and with the intimacy of the theater, we could just about reach out and touch him. I've seen many, many YouTube videos of Tommy but seeing him in person was awe-inspiring. The VIP Meet & Greet before the show was extra special. We were able to spend some time and talk to him. He is a genuinely nice guy to talk to, and there was no rushing to get to other attendees. We got pictures with him, and he signed out VIP passes and an 8x10 photo. His opening act, Gareth Pearson, was nearly as gifted as Tommy. We were able to talk to him at the intermission and he was also a wonderfully kind and humble young man. There were two bars in the theater which meant little to no wait to buy a beverage. I can't think of anything negative about the evening. It was definitely an amazing experience with Tommy at the Joy Theater.

  • Awesome evening!

Our 4th time attending a Tommy concert! Always amazes us! Loved the venue too!

  • Best Ever!

by Big Red on 1/19/23The Joy Theater - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

My first time to see Tommy Emmanuel. Do not miss him if you ever get a chance to see him. Tommy is phenomenal and even better live in person. Very humble and so talented that you cannot even believe it! The opening act was Gareth Pearson, and he was fantastic as well. What a great show at a surprisingly affordable cost and the Meet & Greet was comfortable with nice goodies and plenty of time to chat with Tommy. Thanks to all the folks that made that wonderful experience go smoothly and enjoyably. A job well done and a best of the best experience!

  • Another incredible performance

by Bob on 1/19/23The Joy Theater - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

Tommy never fails to amaze me. We started with the meet and greet, and then settled in our second row seats for some of the finest guitar work you’ve ever seen in your life. Everybody needs to have a chance to see Tommy live. New Orleans was fantastic, and I can’t wait for him to play Orlando again.
