    Mediocre

by Bryan R. on 3/29/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

I was expecting more from this production. (Tina Turner Musical). We attended the show in Chicago Saturday March 25th. I would estimate the theater was about 70% full. The lead (playing Tina) was average at best which was disappointing since she was basically the entire show. Her voice just didn’t work for the part. (Which was overheard by many theater-goers on the way out of the theater). Overall, the cast did a good job, again nothing great. The biggest highlight was the girl who portrayed Tina as a young girl-wonderful. I wouldn’t recommend this play-instead, grab a drink and out on some Tina-save a few hundred bucks and enjoy it more.

    Disappointed in leading lady

by DFR on 3/29/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

The theatre and production were good, but the woman in the lead role (Tina) at the March 26 matinee was disappointing. It seemed she was so pre-occupied with trying to mimic Tina's voice that you couldn't understand the lyrics; and she was off pitch frequently and just plain screamed a lot. For a production at this level, and at these ticket prices, I expected more.

    Nasty Seat Mate

    by T. K. on 3/28/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Lady next to me ate Garrett's caramel popcorn during the entire show and sang every song out loud while dancing in her seat and flailing her arms. This was a Broadway show and not a concert. In addition to her rude behavior, she displaced a good 30% of my seat and took great pleasure in elbowing me every few minutes. She draped her coat over the arm rest between the seats. Her neighbor (with her) also took a phone call during the show. During the intermission, I requested that she close up the popcorn as it was aromatic. She said Garrett's is next door and that she planned to chow down on the popcorn during the entire second half. She did and crunched loudly. She said I was too demanding - 1 question earlier. I had asked her to turn off her phone while she was texting for about the first 10 minutes of the show as the screen was too bright and she tapped loudly on the keyboard. I paid a lot for my ENTIRE seat and to see the show and the performance - not the loud singing of my seatmate while chowing down on stinky popcorn.

    OMG

by Shona on 3/28/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

This was a blinding performance that envolked every emotion i had! I was only free for one right in Chigargo, and toyed around with several things to do, but I am 100% SOOOO glad i picked this show. From start to finnish, I was on the edge of my seat... I cried, I laughed i felt hate and seeked revenge, but most of all I felt love and compassion. Every actor was stupendous, scene changes were seemless and the music was phenomenally epic and it just kept building. If you have time this is a MUST watch!

Enjoyed but could've been so much better

by Anisa on 3/28/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

As an avid Tina Turner fan I found the story to be quite a bit different from the book and the movie. Only two children in the play and she had four. Also the lead had a great voice but she really didn't enunciate the words which is ironic because Tina is known for enunciation! I also found her to over sing at times. Overall we had a great time. If I didn't know anything about Tina's story I wouldn't have been bothered by the discrepancies.

    Hi Energy Journey

by Theatre Lover on 3/28/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Beautiful choice of theatre, although seats are tight, they need to rehab more space for your knees, I'm only 5'6" and my knees were in the back of the person in front of me. The lobby bar with the signature drink (Proud Mary) was nice! The play from beginning to end was an adrenaline ride, ups and downs twists and turns. Great music selections to define the era and the moment in Tina Turner's life. Costuming was good. Casting was excellent! Zurin Villanueva was a great "Tina" she could belt the sounds out. She or maybe the director made a choice for her to do a 'Tina' accent that perhaps was a little over done at times but never the matter, Zurin still delivered a fantastic performance. Other performances of note: Garret Turner (Ike); Ann Nesby (Gran); Parris Lewis (Alline, Ikette #4); and Ayvah Johnson (Young Anna-Mae) who was a powerhouse singer and honest actor! The videography used as the backdrop for the sets was stylish and effective. The show stopper set reveal left you feeling satiated. I hope to future audiences you see it with a crowd that's less pompous so you can sing along and enjoy yourself.

    Tina

by Boomer on 3/28/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

The singers were great but the acoustics were terrible. The musical was too long, heavy on the soap opera and light on the music. Way over priced

    Expected more

    by C***y on 3/28/23James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

For the price of the ticket, I expected a little more "Tina". Although she sounded "ok", I didn't think the actress resembled Tina's features at all. The woman playing Tina's sister should have played the role. The costumes were on the cheesy side as well. The show was very long, there should have been more than one intermission.
