About

Tim Allen on Tour

However busy he may be as one of comedy's biggest stars on screens big and small, Tim Allen stays true to his stand-up roots. Audiences for his live performances are just as eager to show their appreciation for his warm, wry and sometimes wild take on life in America, raising families and getting older.

Allen has honed his signature brand of observational comedy since he began earning laughs in clubs in the mid '70s. One of the most iconic performers to emerge from the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, he rose through the ranks in the '80s before finding fame on Home Improvement, his long-running ABC sitcom. His engaging and hilarious performances as Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story and hapless dad Scott Calvin in The Santa Clause led to two of Hollywood's most popular family-movie franchises. In 2011, he returned to television as the star of Last Man Standing, another hit sitcom that began its eighth season in 2020.

A series of live shows to promote his 2010 film Crazy on the Outside led to a renaissance for Allen's stand-up career and his first stand in Las Vegas since 1993. He continues to regularly perform in venues all over the US.

Who is Tim Allen?

A star at home on both screen and stage, Tim Allen has been a favorite of audiences ever since he broke out of the pack of future greats who found their voices at Los Angeles' iconic Comedy Store in the '80s.

Born in Colorado and raised in Michigan, Allen began his comedy career in clubs and on cable-access shows in the Detroit area in the mid '70s. After overcoming personal troubles and moving to Los Angeles, he soon became known for a sharp brand of observational humor that reflected his everyman perspective and was anything but politically correct. Allen found another means of showcasing his wry take on love, marriage and family life when his sitcom Home Improvement began its hugely successful run on ABC in 1991. His star rose higher with his performances in Toy Story and The Santa Clause, two big-screen family hits that spawned blockbuster franchises.

His other film credits include Christmas with the Kranks, Zoom, Crazy on the Outside and The Shaggy Dog. His two books Don't Stand Too Close to a Naked Man and I'm Not Really Here were bestsellers. In 2011, he returned to television to star in Last Man Standing, another long-running hit sitcom. Allen continues to perform live for audiences throughout the US.

Tim Allen was terrible. He couldn’t finish a sentence. Kept losing his train of thought. Was not funny. I couldn’t decide if he was drunk or just senile. But the guy has lost whatever humour he once had.

  • Good laughs

Tim is still entertaining after all these years. Saw him maybe 10 years ago. This time around still full of laughs out loud humor. Covered his family memories as well as spot on political musings. An enjoyable night out.

Tim was as funny as ever. My son and I had a great time and days later are still cracking up whenever we look at each other.

Tim Allen was hilarious! I will definitely go again if he comes to town. Harrah's makes it easy to get in and out. I highly recommend seeing Tim Allen.

Beautiful venue. Eclectic crowd. Funny comedian. Hopefully, the person yelling was removed.

He was awesome, it was a great experience seeing him for my first time. He was so funny. Trying to get there was not a good experience.

  • HILARIOUS!

    by wjustice827 on 2/7/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

For starters, it’s a bucket list event to see Tim Allen live in Detroit! That being said, he did not disappoint! He was hilarious, and in my opinion stayed on stage much longer than other comedians i’ve seen live. I walked away extremely satisfied with my experience, and I will be back to see him when he comes back to Detroit.

  • interesting

I wish I would have never seen him like this - very very negative - funny sometimes, most of the time just seemed negative and grumpy

  • Disappointing at best

by MrsK on 2/7/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

Tim Allen's show was extremely disappointing. He spent most of his time bashing Disney. The show didn't even last an hour. Definitely not worth what we paid for out tickets. Terrible sound system in the Fox for a one man show.

  • Awesome All Around

by Kareway on 2/7/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The show, the setting, the laughs- it doesn't get much better. Am still sore from laughing so much. And continue to be amazed by the beautiful Fox Venue.

  • A nice night out

by Mike on 2/7/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Sometimes I feel that people laugh at comedians because they want to, not because they are funny. That is probably why I am not the best reviewer. I did get some honest laughs from Tim and I did enjoy the show but I was definitely not blown away. I appreciated his honesty about his past problems. My wife loved the show.

  • As Expected…. Great Show

by PeterM on 2/6/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

We’ve been fans of Tim Allen for decades…. Love his movies and both of his TV Shows. It’s not Christmas until I watch Christmas with the Kranks, but I’ve never seen him do a stand up comedy show, until Saturday night at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. He Did Not Disappoint!!! VERY entertaining evening…. Lots of great stories….Funny beyond expectations - laughter throughout the show. He didn’t even dodge the less than stellar chapter of his life, but rather embraced it, owned it, and made us laugh about it, without making light of the seriousness of the situation, nor did he glorify it or make it seem like a good road to take. His overall message is uplifting and positive, delivered with extreme precision and constant humor. I’ve seen 100’s of stand up comics, and Tim’s show on Saturday is up in the top two or three.

  • Fantastic show!

  • Beautiful theater never disappoints

by Mev on 2/6/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The theatre was fab as always... It was a little hard to hear Mr. Allen though.... No I don't have any hearing problems. I've seen Mr. Allen before. He was missing some of his usual punch and delivery timing. Wasn't disappointed though!

  • Great Evening!

Tim Allen did not disappoint! His opener Lowell was great also! Amazing show and content! Only thing is evening ended too soon!

  • Under-Whelming.

by Sam on 2/6/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Not sure what I was expecting, I hadn't watch any videos online or read any reviews, so I was being surprised. Tim is not a comedian, he's an actor. The show should have been filled with material related to his many many works. Some were but most were bathroom jokes, genitalia observations and a lot of profanity, Most seemed old and re-run from many other comics. Was hoping for a memorable night, nothing special remains of the evening.

  • Welcome back Tim! You are a star!

by CathyLou on 2/6/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the opening act, as that gentleman was a great comedian. Also, Tim Allen was a star. We thoroughly loved his act, and we realize it was not a Tim the Toolman show! Tim was great and we are glad he came back to town, and so proud that he is from Birmingham, Michigan! He really had the crowds, laughing and cheering for him! Tim we loved listening AND laughing!! What a great evening!!

  • Meh.

by Beau Hooker on 2/6/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

It wasn't a bad experience. Idk what I expected really. But I wouldn't go again. The opening act was horrible. It's always fun to go to the fox theater in Detroit, and we had a good night out altogether.
