About

Tim Allen on Tour

However busy he may be as one of comedy's biggest stars on screens big and small, Tim Allen stays true to his stand-up roots. Audiences for his live performances are just as eager to show their appreciation for his warm, wry and sometimes wild take on life in America, raising families and getting older.

Allen has honed his signature brand of observational comedy since he began earning laughs in clubs in the mid '70s. One of the most iconic performers to emerge from the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, he rose through the ranks in the '80s before finding fame on Home Improvement, his long-running ABC sitcom. His engaging and hilarious performances as Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story and hapless dad Scott Calvin in The Santa Clause led to two of Hollywood's most popular family-movie franchises. In 2011, he returned to television as the star of Last Man Standing, another hit sitcom that began its eighth season in 2020.

A series of live shows to promote his 2010 film Crazy on the Outside led to a renaissance for Allen's stand-up career and his first stand in Las Vegas since 1993. He continues to regularly perform in venues all over the US.

Who is Tim Allen?

A star at home on both screen and stage, Tim Allen has been a favorite of audiences ever since he broke out of the pack of future greats who found their voices at Los Angeles' iconic Comedy Store in the '80s.

Born in Colorado and raised in Michigan, Allen began his comedy career in clubs and on cable-access shows in the Detroit area in the mid '70s. After overcoming personal troubles and moving to Los Angeles, he soon became known for a sharp brand of observational humor that reflected his everyman perspective and was anything but politically correct. Allen found another means of showcasing his wry take on love, marriage and family life when his sitcom Home Improvement began its hugely successful run on ABC in 1991. His star rose higher with his performances in Toy Story and The Santa Clause, two big-screen family hits that spawned blockbuster franchises.

His other film credits include Christmas with the Kranks, Zoom, Crazy on the Outside and The Shaggy Dog. His two books Don't Stand Too Close to a Naked Man and I'm Not Really Here were bestsellers. In 2011, he returned to television to star in Last Man Standing, another long-running hit sitcom. Allen continues to perform live for audiences throughout the US.

  • Disappointed

by Kelly on 1/18/23Rating: 1 out of 5

My husband and I are in our late 30s. We grew up loving Tim in Home Improvement, The Santa Clause Movies, Toy Story, etc. We bought these tickets as a dream Christmas Gift to each other. The seats were great, the venue was great. Tim was awful. His hatefulness, grumpiness and whole demeanor made him come across as a jerk. I finally realized that, who I enjoyed was Tim Taylor, not Tim Allen. It’s hard to accept that actors are just that - actors. His Hollywood persona is definitely just a facade - if he is truly as he presents on stage in his stand up routine then his true character is a let down. If you want to keep the facade alive in your mind - I don’t recommend seeing his stand up show.

  • Bad Joes

Goes to show the tv script writers have better jokes. The performance was awful

  • Not impressed

by Igor on 1/17/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

I want to say right away that I have been a fan of Tim Allen since his Home Improvement days. I have also seen his recorded stand-up shows, and based on what I saw, I always thought that his comedy style was (relatively) free of politics and moralization. That's exactly what I expected. Unfortunately, that's not exactly what I got. I guess I was expecting "Tim the Toolman Taylor," not the angry white guy complaining a lot from the stage. Sometimes it felt as if Tim was not doing stand-up, but a TED presentation instead. Long story short: I will not be seeing him again in the future.

  • He's no Santa Claus

by TG on 1/15/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

Well I always admired Tm Allen, and my family has watched his Santa Claus movies over and over again. However, as a stand-up comic I was disappointed. He is so skilled, why was he telling inappropriate jokes? Why was he constantly using the "F" word? Some of his content was troubling, and apparently others in the audience shared my views, as there were those who just got up and walked out before the performance was over. The stand-up comic who did the opening act (forgot his name) won the golden star that evening. As for Tim Allen, I really think the audience was hoping for a much warmer Tim Allen, minus the bathroom humor.

  • Tim Allen still has it!

by Naynay on 1/11/23North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the show except the end. Was very abrupt and we all felt like he didnt get to experienced his well deserved accolades. Other than that fantastic!

  • A miserable night out

by Steve on 1/11/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

Tim Allen was wonderful. His opener was hilarious. My party of 4 (2 men in our 60's, my 23-year-old niece and teenage nephew) were all uncomfortable (as were many in the area around us) because of the lack of leg room between the rows in the balcony. To have your knees and lower legs pushed against the hard wood of the seat in front of you was very uncomfortable. It truly took away from the enjoyment that could have been had by a great entertainer and his show. We paid good money to go to a beautiful venue, yet so many people around us were complaining about the same thing - lack of leg room. I understand that the Orchestra seats have much more leg room and are comfortable; since this is true, there is NO EXCUSE for the lack of leg room and uncomfortable seating that we experienced in the balcony. I paid good money for the show and was so, so disappointed that I couldn't enjoy the entertainment due to the lack of caring by the venue. I will never go back to the Wang Center if I have to sit in the balcony again. They should be ashamed to sell those seats to anyone over 5 feet tall.

  • Tim Allen was fabulous!

by Pattideefilip on 1/10/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Unfortunately, we had a row of high, drunk people behind us that spoke during most of his performance. There was no security taking care of this problem at the Wang Center. What we could hear, Tim was great!

  • Laughing is healthy!

by Anabel on 1/10/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

And Tim Allen tops our list of funny men making the world a healthier and happier place. Great evening with this versatile funny man of ToolTime fame. We thought the routine would largely be a review of his wonderful show, but not so much! To our delight Tim’s family antics were nothing short of hilarious, highlighting his storytelling ability and quick wit. Super fun night out in Bean Town!

  • Wang Theater - Back Bay

The theater is beautiful, really unique. Tim Allen delivered, we had a great time.

  • Entertainment top notch

by Jessie on 1/10/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Want Theater absolutely beautiful. Seats WAY too narrow. The guy next to me was literally taking up a quarter of my seat! He was just a big guy.

  • Night of Laughs

  • Funny, could be Longer

by DoubleJ on 1/10/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

I thought Tim was a riot as usual and enjoyed his opening act, but thought it could have been longer forbthe price paid.

  • Great Night

We loved Tim Allen, he was great. Could not have asked for a better time......

  • Truth is funny

by JGee on 1/10/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Both Tim Allen and the warmup comedian Lowell were terrific! It's amazing how Tim and Lowell both took every day life things and made us roar with laughter. I watched the people around us--all different ages and heritages--and we were all getting a good old endorphin release from the laughter. I would have enjoyed it more if the show were a bit longer, even a second warmup act--singer or other talent. We don't get out to shows often and I prefer about 2 hours entertainment. Just a side comment--this should take nothing away from the quality of the show. I just wanted more quantity.

  • Disappointed and not worth the money

by North of Boston on 1/10/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

Honestly, was really disappointed. The opening act was much funnier. Felt as if he didn’t put much effort into creating an amusing show, almost as if he sold tickets based on his name only. I really always liked him and enjoyed all of his movies and shows, but this was totally a let down. Bought the tickets as part of a Christmas gift and was embarrassed and apologized to the recipient that I brought .

  • Wasn’t that great.

by Mike on 1/10/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

I thought the opener was pretty funny, but Tim was just a little disappointing. You could tell he was losing more and more people as the show went on. Started off pretty hot, I was laughing at most of it. Then it turned into fart jokes (20 min story about how to light them on fire), how much he hates social media and that California is the worst place to live. I think I like Tim’s television joke writers more than I like Tim’s standup comedy joke writers. Not really worth the money in my opinion. I felt bad as Tim’s tv shows were some of the few things my dad and I have in common. I could tell he was pretty disappointed in it too.

  • SHORT and DISAPPOINTING

by MAmom on 1/10/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

The show was supposed to be 8-10 pm as advertised. Nothing until 8:30pm and then funny opening act came on until 8:45. Tim Allen performed 8:45-9:45 and that was IT. He wasnt very funny, and spent 25-30 minutes talking about farts and gas. If I were in a frat house that might appeal, but seriously? No riff on politics, woke people, or anything reasonably expected. I expected to roar all night, and instead enjoyed the opening performer much more. He was funny! I guess woke Boston scared him off, even though anyone getting that ticket would know what to expect.

  • Raunchy fun

by Gabriel on 1/10/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Surprised he was raunchier than Ron White. A pleasurable politically incorrect evening! Loads of fun

  • Very funny - too short

by TWood on 1/10/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Great comedy and Tim is a great storyteller. But 15 min opener and Tim was about 50 minutes we left wanting more. Been to a lot of headliners shows and he had the shortest show.

  • Good not Great

by Coozman on 1/10/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

While the show had it's moments I was hoping for a more topical performance. A good portion of the performance by Tim was spent rehashing events from his childhood which were unrelatable. Lowell Saunders the opening act was excellent but I guess it is easier to be funny for 15 minutes than an hour.
