The Tenors on Tour

Although The Tenors' sound is a combination of classical and pop, the group's concerts are impossible to pigeonhole. Their setlists have been known to include everything from Motown classics to Beatles hits, to renditions of "Agnus Dei" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." No matter what style The Tenors lend their voices to, it's the power of those pipes that has fans around the world coming back to their performances. Each member of the group is a world-class vocalist on his own terms, and as they trade off on lead vocals, it only becomes more clear. But when their voices combine, they add up to even more than the considerable sum of their parts. Between The Tenors' unbridled eclecticism, out-of-this-world vocal chops and sheer stage presence, it's nearly impossible to walk out of one of their concerts unmoved.

The Tenors in Concert

The Tenors were born out of a vision to combine the best of operatic material with pop, presented by singers possessed of both flawless technique and intense emotion. The lineup has changed since they started, but the mission remains the same. The group first came together in 2004 in Victoria, BC, and early on they were known as The Canadian Tenors, but their moniker changed when it became clear that they could appeal to audiences far beyond their national borders. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2005, though it was the follow-up (also self-titled) that really put them on the map, hitting both the classical and pop charts in the U.S. as well as Canada. Since then, these Canucks have become virtual citizens of the world, playing the most prestigious venues all over the planet, and appearing on television everywhere from PBS to the BBC.

  • The guys were great, some technical problems

by Gronendael on 4/26/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed the show. The Tenors & the band were fantastic. Amazing voices, fun moments between songs, entertaining performances... There were a couple issues that disappointed me. Not to the point where I didn't enjoy the show, just nuisances. 1. New crew? It was their 1st performance on their US tour, so maybe they had a new crew? Lights were not coming on at the right times, they were consistently late with spotlights and effects. Nothing major, just messed up the flow of the show because it was noticeable. 2. The sound system was not good. I don't know if this is due to The Tenors's equipment or the Duke Energy Center's equipment. But the sound did not fill up the theater like it should have. It was like they were using amps that you buy at the local music store and just plugged their mics into. Poor sound quality for the whole show and at times, the balance of their voices was off. And sometimes you could barely hear certain guys singing. It was frustrating. It was like the crew forgot to turn their mic on for a second...similar to the lighting issues...just a bit off. 3. My biggest issue was that they weren't loud enough! I know there were a lot of older people at the show, but don't older people usually need things louder? I don't need rock band, ears-ringing loud. Most rock concerts I've been to are at an 8-9 out of 10 on volume. 10 being too loud. 8-9 being where you say "What?" to your friends a lot after the concert because you can't hear well. I would have expected at least 7-8 from The Tenors. They gave us a 5. Those great voices should fill the room and my head with sound! I know it sounds like I complained a lot, but overall it was a great show. My wife loved it and wants to go again to the next closest show to us in NOVA. I definitely won't mind. Maybe they'll have the technical issues worked out when they arrive there in 6 weeks.

I expected an orchastra, because that's what I saw on Public Television wen I first saw The Tenros. They had a standard band and a very weak sound system. I suppose if I was seated in the first 10 rows the sound may not have been too bad. The vocal performances were tremendous. They are indeed a very talented group of vocalists. But the band was weak and the sound system did not fill the room. Very disappointed.

  • The Tenors are outstanding ! ! !

by SirOliver on 4/26/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

This group is amazing. Their repetoire shows great variety - from Classical to modern works. Their skill and training really shows in all of the numbers presented. Their use of straight tones (to improve their quality in blending together) as well as controlled vibrato (in their solo parts) was just one example of their high level of skill demonstrated throughout the show. The variation of dynamics - both in "types" of songs and within each song was spot on.

  • The Tenors concert was FANTASTIC!

by harpybear on 4/26/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

I speak for my granddaughter and daughter when I say this concert was Amazing... Fantastic... Memorable... and just plain Fun. I saw the Tenors sing with Jackie Evancho on PBS and then again this year during the pledge drive...and I had to see them in person. They are personable and great talents ... I will try to see them again if the opportunity arises.
