The Office! A Musical Parody

The beloved mockumentary reaches a new level of laughs with The Office! A Musical Parody. Fans of the television series will be happy to know that all their favorite characters are on board, as are some key plot elements. When the original British version of The Office premiered in 2001, it brought something completely new to television comedy. Sure, sitcoms had lampooned office culture before, but never with the cringe-inducing level of awkwardness that creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant allowed their characters to display. Then the American Office became an enormous hit series -- and a comedy landmark. In the hands of writers Bob and Tobly McSmith, the stage version adds an unexpected tuneful touch that takes things to another place entirely, and the outrageousness lives on.

The Office! A Musical Parody History

The British send-up of dysfunctional workplace life that was broadcast on BBC from 2001 through 2003 became such a success in America that it couldn't help but inspire a US version. Premiering in 2005, the American Office, starring Steve Carell, lasted for an amazing nine seasons. When Bob and Tobly McSmith took the stateside sitcom series and created a theatrical version, the pair had already let their satirical minds loose on musical takeoffs of everything from Friends to Full House, so by the time they tackled The Office, they were fully primed. But this is far from just a stage re-creation. As a musical parody, the production mines the medium for even more comic gold -- and gives you something to hum on the way home. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the series or getting introduced to the characters for the first time, The Office! A Musical Parody will prove that however insane your own workplace may seem to you, it's comparatively a whole lot more normal than you may think.

This show does a great job of turning such a loved show into a musical. It's so entertaining and enjoyable, the cast does a great job! Laughed for so much of the show. If you like the TV show, then I highly suggest going to see this!

    The Office

by W. S. on 7/8/19The Theater Center - New York

The show was great. Ticketmaster however was not. You sold 2 people the exact same tickets. The other people had to move to new seats. The usher said you guys did the same thing last week at their show. How on earth with modern technology can you do that? Luckily the show has a few empty seats.

    Fun times

by Y. on 7/8/19The Theater Center - New York

The Office musical parody is so well thought out and throws in many scenarios/lines from the first six/seven years of the show, all in a tightly packed and very fun 2 hour show! The actors are out there having fun and most (accept Michael Scott play several characters cleverly and brilliantly! Michael Scott character is fun!

What a fun surprise! My daughter is a big fan (I am too) so we thought we’d give it a try. SO AMAZING!! The actors were just incredible. They really captured the looks, personalities, voices, mannerisms of each character. It was so much fun. “That’s what she said!” lol.

    It's a wonderful experience.....That's what she said!!

by G.C. on 6/12/19The Theater Center - New York

Awesome play. Small theatre, so you're right there and feel like you're part of it. All the actors and actresses did an amazing job. They all played multiple characters, and did a great job with pretty much everyone. There's nothing new happening during the play. It's pretty much a condensed version of what took place on the small screen. But they hit the majority of the highlights and jokes. If you're a fan of the show, you'll really enjoy the play. Definitely worth going to. Highly recommend it.

Overall pretty good given the budget

by JJ on 5/14/19The Theater Center - New York

Ideally there should be enough cast for everyone to have just a single role and not multiple, especially Andy and Jim. Other than that it was pretty good. Good new dated jokes and references.

Funny. The woman who played Michael was a great actreasy. Cast overall was very good. Theater is teeny.

Took my teenage son who has binged on the series and had a great time. Small theater and very accommodating. The actors gave it 110%. I am a huge office fan and Michael Scott fan so I didn't miss any of the jokes. Very affordable tickets as well.

    A must-see for Office fans!

by Sandy on 5/8/19The Theater Center - New York

The Office! A Musical Parody is a must-see for any Office fan. The theater is small and intimate, with the first row touching the stage and putting those sitting there right in the action. Michael Santora as Dwight Schrute was excellent, as was Tom McGovern as Jim and the rest of the cast. Would have like a few more beets and bears, but perhaps that's because I think Dwight is hilarious! This was a really fun (and affordable!) show.

    Eh

by ShowHound on 5/8/19The Theater Center - New York

While the theater was amazing and the actors talented, the show itself was just a bit above a high school performance. I expected a lot more from an off-broadway productions.

    Hilarious

by The Common Denominator on 5/7/19The Theater Center - New York

Went to the show with my daughter for her 20th birthday. We sat in the front row so it was like sitting in The Office. The show was well done. We are both huge Office fans and found that the show hit on all the highlights of the original TV show. The cast was fantastic and hit on all the character mannerisms and quirks. We both enjoyed the show immensely. We would highly recommend the show.
