  • perfect experience

by miamifamily on 7/26/11Ogunquit Playhouse - OgunquitRating: 5 out of 5

What a treat this show was in every way! My two children and I were looking for a uniquely Maine experience for our first visit... and our visit to the theatre was ideal. I felt like we traveled back in time when I pulled into the beautifully landscaped drive. The theatre itself was perfect for my kids who did not complain that they couldn't see. Most impressive, however, was the talent level of the actors. They were a notch above what I expected and my expectations were quite high. Thank you for a wonderful night that cannot be duplicated anywhere else.

  • Observations of a music man

    by BILL41 on 7/26/11Ogunquit Playhouse - OgunquitRating: 4 out of 5

Peter Scolari was born 100 years too late. He would have been perfect doing the vaudville circuit. He is very animated and mischievous. Julia Burrows had me in tears with her touching portrayal of Marian and her exquisite vocal talents. And those little kids, wish I was their manager.

This was truly an exceptional performance! The Music Man Barber Shop Quartet was outstanding as were the dancers. The lead roles were played to perfection.

  • Music Man was Wonderful!

I thought I was at a Broadway Performance! I can't believe the theatre had some empty seats! People don't know what they're missing!. The dancers were top notch and the singing was so pleasurable. The lyrics in this show have never been topped by any other musical. So clever! and The acting was perfect. I'm so glad my adult daughter, my cousin and I decided to see this show. A wonderful event. Thank you for having it come to your theatre! .

  • The Music Man was outstanding.

I thought the cast, the orchestra, the sets and the overall presentation was superb. It was a joy to see it. My wife and I actually saw Van Johnson as the Music Man some 50 years ago. Peter Scolari was terrific.

  • An Enjoyable Evening

    by miatamx5 on 7/25/11Ogunquit Playhouse - OgunquitRating: 4 out of 5

With the exception of the male lead, the performances were outstanding. The train scene was very well done, both in production and performance. It has been years since we have seen this musical and we were thrilled with the OP production. Scolari's performance was weak but it did not seem to be a major distraction from the overall experience. The other performers more than made up for that gap and the supporting cast and crew were superb, even down to the children in uniform marching up the aisles at the curtain call, and the scene changes were seamless. We had an enjoyable evening! The one downside: I believe the prices are a bit steep. The theater seemed to have many empty seats for a Saturday night performance. Perhaps lowering the ticket prices would fill more seats and bring in more local customers on a more frequent basis.

My husband and I had a great time at this show! Peter Scolari as Harold Hill and Julia Burrows as Marian were outstanding. My husband and I will definitely go back to the Ogunquit Playhouse later this year!

Enjoyed it very much. Great talent, costumes and scenery. Had seen it in a much bigger theater in March - this seemed so much more enjoyable being in a small theater.

  • Lots of Fun!

    by Terri2011 on 7/24/11Ogunquit Playhouse - OgunquitRating: 4 out of 5

Story followed movie precicely! Songs were fabulous. Julia was wonderful as Marian - playing the part perfectly. Great show for the entire family! ~ Grandparents to Grandkids! All the kids were cute and acted well. My hubby (the engineer) says: The stage props were of excellent quality! The whole show was up to par with Broadway but w/o the broadway prices. We were very glad to have gone. You can see well everywhere in this (air conditioned) theatre, too.

This show was absolutely awesome. We would even go see it again. Peter Scolari and all the other cast members were so profession.

  • Music Man Still Resonates!

by jbcbf on 7/23/11Ogunquit Playhouse - OgunquitRating: 4 out of 5

This is one of my favorite plays and I was wondering if it would hold up and if I had made a mistake seeing a preview instead of the "real" show. Although it's an old-fashioned play, the themes are universal and the cast was perfect. Peter Scolari was a fine Professor Harold Hill with just the right questionable character. Julia Burrows has to have one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard in theatre (and I have seen dozens of shows in NYC). The costumes and supporting actors were excellent, in particular the mayor and his wife Eulalia. The music was lovely with several songs I had forgotten. It was great to see Peter Scolari again. I had wondered where his career had gone.

This was an amazing stage production! The actors in the opening scene on the train, with their dialog and the train movement in unison was unbelievable. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire show. Our 9-year old granddaughter was star-struck with the performance. Thank you!
