  • Love the Moth, lukewarm about the Bell House

by AM on 11/2/24The Bell House - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

The Moth is great every time. Security for this event was wack though. They took a bunch of snacks I was planning to take home (protein bars, etc) because “no outside food.” Then the food that they sell inside is popcorn and burnt pizza. Really cool guys. Would have put five stars otherwise.

  • No Outside Food and Drinks at The Bell House

by Food Wasted on 11/2/24The Bell House - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

The organizer did not inform beforehand that no outside food and drinks are allowed into the establishment. I had a bottle of water but was asked to throw it out (only to refill it at the bar later), and some leftover food from an early dinner that I would not have brought along had I known the food policy. This venue information should have been included with the ticket info!

  • Great

I liked it much more than standups that have similar form of presenting information

So happy to see a live open mic show of The Moth. Great storytelling. Well run event.

  • Try Harder Next Time

by North End on 6/18/24Music Hall Center - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

The venue did not appear to be air conditioned and was sweltering hot causing drowsiness. The MC was very engaging and the highlight of the evening. From past experience with The Moth the presenters were not what I would describe the best of the best.

  • Great Evening

Wonderful evening listening to someone very talented story tellers share very poignant, personal stories!

  • Disappointment

by Bill J. on 6/17/24Music Hall Center - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

Arrival: We arrived at 7:30ish. Line to get in, but the weather was nice. Tickets were scanned efficiently. Lounge: Probably should have guessed the rest of the comfort level from here. The lounge was hot (temperature) This room seems to be in a lower level. How is it hot? However, we got our drinks and headed on up. Auditorium: Also HOT. My goodness folks, do you hate your audience? Some AC or the use of fans would be good here. Not sure if there is no AC, or the Hall is just being very economical. I wish they would mention this as we dressed for the AC to be on high as most performers like a fair amount of cooling and the rooms can be quite chilly. This was the opposite of that. The outside temperature was about 70, the inside felt more like 78 with no air movement at all. Story Tellers: I didn't connect with the story tellers and frankly it was a downer of an evening. One very shocking moment was when an employee, somewhere outside of the hall laughed out loud at an inopportune time, just after the speaker had told the story of a very bad event in her life. That was so awful. Overall: Overall I would be unlikely to go to another Moth event, and I would also be very unlikely to attend an event at the Music Hall Center in Detroit outside of late fall through late winter. Even then I probably would skip it given how uncomfortable it was.

I had no expectations when I purchased the tickets. I was seeking a different experience. The show had great storytellers which I could relate too.

  • Thought provoking

    by Ems710 on 6/17/24Music Hall Center - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

We really enjoyed these stories. Each one was heartfelt and well presented. I would definitely see another show and would like to try a story slam as well!

First time to The Moth Live... loved it! such a diverse group of story tellers and stories. Although I'd have chosen a different winner, they were all amazing!

  • Loved seeing this Live!

The Moth is wonderful entertainment experience. It is always great to see amateurs stretch their abilities and succeed. Their story telling was great.

  • Great Stories

by Eva on 3/30/24The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Love, The Moth. This was my second time that I attended a Grand Slam and I am a weekly listener to The Moth on NPR. I brought my sister in law, she had never been or listened. We both loved it. She was so excited about it, that she was planning to tell others to attend. Keep them coming!

  • Good show

by Prags on 5/26/23The Wilbur - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

It was very good show, I thoroughly enjoyed the stories. Only thing I was not happy about is the seating arrangement, it was not comfortable for my neck to sit and watch the show for that long time !!!!

  • wonderful original meaningful storytelling.

by pat on 4/27/23Lincoln Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The Moth productions create a 21st century window into the current human travails by using the oldest method of communication : Storytelling. To a packed house at the restored Lincoln Theatre in DC, on April 24, 2023, ten individuals gave us their hearts to hold for 5 minutes each and we became better because of it.

  • Moth Storytelling event

by Jamie on 2/15/23The Wilbur - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

Although I have heard some wonderful stories on the Moth radio show, the live event was a disappointment. The stories were sub-par and the first one was even cringe-worthy about a guy's private parts. I expected better and was embarrassed that I had encouraged two friends to attend with me that night.

  • YIKES!

by Michelle on 1/3/23The Wilbur - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

This was my third Moth event. Most likely, it will be my last. I found the profanity, beginning with the quick-witted, drink-pushing emcee tiresome and unimaginative. And a storyteller’s sexually graphic scene grotesque. Sadly, I have aged out of these live Moth events and will henceforth rely on the edited versions over the airwaves.

  • Beyond great

The storytellers were superb, the trumpet player terrific and the MC was magnificent
