THE MAVERICKS IN CONCERT:
Hot on the heels of their celebrated 2013 reunion, the Mavericks are back on the road and ready to rock with their unique brand of neo-country. Featuring the danceable rhythms of Latin music and a hearty helping of brass instruments, the Mavericks don't put on your typical mid-tempo country show. Quite the contrary, these guys like to move, and they expect — and receive — the same from their fans. The Mavericks had audiences on their feet dancing at their 2013 tour dates, and their live shows in 2014 are sure to inspire more of the same.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Miami in 1989, the Mavericks spent their early days in the city's punk and alternative scene, sharing bills with the likes of Marilyn Manson while developing their uniquely Miami-influenced brand of modern country. Following two early albums, the band hit their stride in 1994 with What a Crying Shame, which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart and landed five singles on the country charts. 1996's Music for All Occasions would prove an even bigger success, scoring them a Top 20 country hit with "All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down" and a Grammy Award for "Here Comes the Rain." Following the band's split in 2004, lead singer Raul Malo released six solo albums before their eight-year hiatus came to an end with the 2012 announcement of a reunion album and tour.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Another remarkable performance of the Mavericks....Such great energy and the entire band generates the energy. Raul sounds like an angel with his beautiful voice."
"They were fabulous as usual! Their love of playing together is so obvious- they are joyful and sooo much fun. What a treat!"
"...I was blown away. What energy...there wasn't a person sitting in their seat...we were ALL up dancing. They played EVERYTHING! Two encores!"
Dynamite show. Loads of new (soon to be classics) tunes. Raul had the whole crowd rockin’ from start to finish.
Great venue, awesome sound, great crowd involvement.
Maybe it was the upper balcony seat I had but I was unable to hear the lead guitar through the mix. I did not notice the amp to be miked so that too could have been part of it. Also, they did not play many of their popular songs but leaned more on the latin-themed ones.
Mavericks were as entertaining as advertised. Great sound. Raul Malo’s voice is as good as when I first heard them in the 90’s. If you have the chance to see them live, do it. The addition of so much young talent on horns, accordion, and percussions was a nice balance to the original band members. Real music from real Musicians in a real band, with such an amazing sound.
It took a few for the audience to get going, but once the dancing started, the energy took off, and everyone experienced a musical high! This was my first Mavericks concert, but definitely not my last!
They were great, they had people that dont dance, dancing .It was a major hoot.
This was our second time to see The Mavericks. Our first concert was almost a "Greatest Hits."This concert, they introduced some new songs and played some songs off their Spanish album. They finished with a bang. They are a great band, and bring a lot of energy. Very talented musicians. I just wish they had played more of their hits.
One of the best shows ever. The Mavericks entertained for two hours. The whole arena was dancing. Would definitely see them again.
The Mavericks really put on a great show! The Lyric Theatre is beautiful and has great acoustics. Only bad thing was seating was very tight but bearable.
The Mavericks put on an awesome show! They have a great energy and just put a heck of a fun show. Lots of dancing in the aisles and wherever it could be squeezed in. This is a band that gives a great effort and are really talented musicians. It is a unique sound that is definitely not mainstream but is culturally beautiful. Raul’s lead vocals are also really rich with an impressive range. And where else are you going to get accordion solos!
What a wonderful show. The mavericks have a wonderful time on stage, always have, and always will. It’s a joyful show that any audience can get up and dance to whether you know their music or not.
The Mavericks did not disappoint! They sound as good or even better in person than they do when I play their music in my living room stereo. Blue Moon rendition was amazingly beautiful. Ellis Theater is the perfect venue as well if you like old quaint theaters where everyone has a great seat. We will be looking for the next place we can travel to hear the Mavericks again and following upcoming events at Ellis Theater.
The Mavericks lit up the small theater in Mississippi! They had us up and dancing for part of the show. Raul’s voice is excellent. He shared the spotlight with all the musicians in the band. Excellent!
Third time to see awesome group but I was impressed with the location. My first time there but would recommend it highly. I don’t think there is a bad seat also the opening act really rocked
The Mavericks were perfect! The Ellis Theater is a great venue. The Mavericks did not hold back, giving us an incredible concert.
these guys are top Pro’s in thier craft …. Skill & passion can’t miss. Bravo
-The Ellis Theater (Philadelphia, MS) is a wonderful venue, thanks to Marty Stuart. Completely rebuilt 1940s movie theater (originally) in a small town. State of the art sound and lighting. No shortcuts, top notch. -The Mavericks were outstanding! Great sound, loud and strong, but not deafening, as so many shows are. Raul Malo and the band are exceptionally talented, can play/sing any type of music. And they obviously enjoy performing, smiling, laughing, as they play. -performed a solid two hour show, some of their old songs, some newer, some new unreleased! -fourth time to see them in the past two years, will go again whenever they are in reasonable distance (100 miles each way this show).
This was our first time at this venue, and it was perfect for a show like this. (But Parking is very difficult, so you should go early and do something before a show here to avoid the parking craziness.). This was also my first time to see the Mavericks. I wish I hadn’t waited so long! It was one of the best shows we’ve seen in years and we see live music almost every week!
They are amazing. I love Raul's voice and the energy with the band. I listen to them all the time.
Very poor experience with dining/drinks regarding Tannahill's. Mavericks were excellent and would definitely return to Tannahill's concert venue itself to see performers of interest.
