The Marshall Tucker Band on Tour

Southern rock pioneers The Marshall Tucker Band have created legendary music like "Can't You See" and "Fire on the Mountain" since the '70s. While the members have changed over the years, the music that defined a generation remains the same. The rockers still energize stadiums with their iconic sound that combines rock, jazz, country, righteous guitar solos, and instrumental jam sessions. The Marshall Tucker Band hit the road in 2022 for a tour of the U.S. in celebration of 50 years of making great music. So whether you're a die-hard fan of five decades or just looking for an excellent Southern rock performance, be sure to grab tickets to see the band on their 50th Anniversary Tour. You won't be disappointed.

The Marshall Tucker Band Live in Concert

The '70s were a golden age for pop-rock music, and The Marshall Tucker Band led the charge as a new wave of Southern rock bands began to emerge. In 1972, guitarist Toy Caldwell and rhythm guitarist George McCorkle formed the six-piece in South Carolina and named the band after a blind piano tuner whose name they found inscribed on their rehearsal space key. The original lineup consisted of Caldwell, his brother Tommy Caldwell on bass, McCorkle, vocalist Doug Gray, Jerry Eubanks on flute and tenor sax, and Paul Riddle on drums. The group initially gained recognition on tour with The Allman Brothers Band and found continued success thanks to their classic Southern melodies that were perfect for radio. The group's self-titled debut album was released in March 1973 and included the hit single "Can't You See," peaking at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Marshall Tucker Band took a brief break in 1980 after the death of bassist Tommy Caldwell, but the band was revived with a new lineup and began touring again in 1983. The group mostly stuck to their musical roots, but they did take some brief detours to explore other genres with 1998's all-blues album Face Down in the Blues and the 1999 spiritual album Gospel. Overall, The Marshall Tucker Band have released over 20 studio albums and dozens of live releases, which have collectively gone multi-platinum many times. The band remains active to this day, touring throughout the United States and celebrate their 50th anniversary on tour in 2022.

  • Marshal Tucker at State Theater Ithaca

I had a good time.. band played well, although I really didn't know their music. The ticket was fairly inexpensive, and for around $30-$40 I'd recommend them.. but not for much more than that. I know ticket prices are outrageous these days, but given that I got a ticket for the Allman Brothers Band at the Tower in Philadelphia for $75, I'd be hard pressed to pay more than $40 to see MTB. Sorry guys.

  • what a jerk

    by aj8257 on 7/28/11Showcase Live - FoxboroughRating: 1 out of 5

Love this band since my college years (1976-1980) but the lead singer could hit the big notes to open any of the songs! I thought it might be laryngitis so I swallowed hard and tried to enjoy the show. Yhe musicians in the band could still really bring it and when they sang, the songs were pretty good but jerk off wouldn't turn the singing over to anyone and butchered, absolutely butchered the vocals for just about every song. On top of that, he berated the sound board tech and actially walked off the stage to go over and emabarrass him at the board. His singing still sucked. I almost went to the veniu to demand my money back but decided to let it go and try to enjoy the memories of the music. worst concert I ever heard....

  • Enjoyed the main act, but not the opener!

    by beeber1217 on 7/25/11Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 3 out of 5

The opening act was definitely worth a miss, and seemed to go on forever. The Marshall Tucker Bank was pretty good, although they didn't play what I wanted to hear - the lying in the desert sun song. However, it was a pleasant evening, and I would recommend it to someone who enjoys their music.

  • Well worth it!

I'll admit I was skeptical about seeing MTB after reading some of the reviews about Doug Gray's voice. Okay, it's true, his voice is gone; HOWEVER, that being said, his presence onstage is still quite remarkable, and I would miss seeing him there. He actually sang very little, so his voice wasn't really an issue if you love the music...and the music was phenomenal. Every one of the present band members is truly remarkable and first rate. The show was well worth the distance and money I spent to see them. I highly recommend seeing them!

  • Marshall Tucker was good

    by Hotrod32000 on 7/24/11Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

i enjoyed the Marshall Tucker concert and they are talented musicians. i was dissapointed they didn't play "24 hours at a time", however! That's like Lynard Skynard not playing "Free Bird"!!

  • Marshall Tucker missed the boat

by Freetex on 7/24/11Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 2 out of 5

The lead singer can't carry a tune anymore. Great musicians in the band & they can sing. He should turn the singing over to others.

  • Extremely disappointing

by KCBedwell on 7/24/11Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 1 out of 5

I am a huge MTB fan, and was really looking forward to seeing them, it has been over 30 years since I last saw them. With great 3rd row seats I could see everything going on. The lead singer, Doug Gray, has completely lost his voice. He tried and croaked thru 2 songs, could not come close to hitting the higher notes. He was also either drunk or on something, he couldn't even put the mic into the clip on the stand, a roadie had to keep coming onstage to help him. It was absolutely sad, because he had a great voice earlier in his career. He incessantly talked, and other band member basically took over the vocals. They played only 11 songs in 1 hour and 45 minutes! The only bright spot was the flute/sax/keyboard player, who was amazing. It's time for the MTB to call it quits.

  • Great Show-smaller venue means more personal

by ChucksBHG on 6/13/11Indian Ranch - WebsterRating: 4 out of 5

with a smaller venue like Indian Ranch, the band was more personal and interacted with the crowd much more. this was my first time to Indian Ranch and I loved it.

They played all of my favorites and thankfully the rain held out for the entire concert!

  • Marshall Tucker Band

by madgy on 5/29/11Coach House - Capistrano - San Juan CapistranoRating: 4 out of 5

Overall I enjoyed the show. It had a very intimate feeling about it, lots of stories & verbage with the audience, audience participation in some of the more well-known songs. The newest guy who played the flute, sax, & keyboard was absolutely amazing! However, sometimes the lyrics were garbled & had a kind of Willie Nelson feel about them which wasn't really bad but was a bit disconcerting at times.

I saw the Marshall Tucker Band at the Inn of the Mountain Gods on 1/14/11. Of course, all the original members except one have passed away, but the music was fabulous. The voice wasn't the same, which was too bad, but it was still a great concert in a beautiful venue. I was surrounded by close friends and we all had fun.

  • Marshall Tucker Band Brings back Memories!!

by lynkden on 1/16/11Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino - MescaleroRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed MTB. The band was AWESOME!, Doug Gray, original lead singer, has still got It!! Just wished he would have sung more songs,,,too bad that the guy that was up front as lead singer was a disappointment. For example, when this guy left the stage to rest up...MTB got a standing ovation!!! What does that tell you? They don't need him. They have 3 great singers! Also, he dissed one of their greatest songs ever , by telling the audience that it wasn't one of "his " favorites. It was certainly ours back in the day! The flutest/saxophone/keyboard/singer was the greatest!! The lead guitar had a great voice!! All the guys that played guitars, drums etc.were outstanding! When you see a guy in the middle of the stage that plays a tambourine & his vocal microphone is way above his head, you just know he's not gonna be good!

Lead singer was drunk. Could not hear the words. Flute player excellent. One of the worse concerts we have been to.

  • Marshall Tucker Band should hang it up

by Rowdy309 on 1/16/11Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino - MescaleroRating: 1 out of 5

The lead singer is the only original member of the band, and that's why we went, thought they'd sound the same. Unfortunately, he has no voice left so couldn't sing any of the songslike they were supposed to be. Resorted to have the audience singe the whole thing for a couple of them. Sad, sad, sad! The band itself was good, should just get a different singer and be the cover band they virtually are.

  • by territwin on 1/16/11Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino - MescaleroRating: 3 out of 5

Marshall Tucker Band has always been a favorite of ours. We saw them maybe 20 years ago and it was a fun concert! However, this was really disappointing. The lead singer's voice was obviously strained and the rest of the band did a good job covering for him. The intrumentals and musicians were very good which helped make up for the singing. The other singers were also very good. The rythmn was off when the lead singer sang. Bottom line...listen to your cds and save your money.

Great concert good to see them live and still in action. Only one problem ended to soon and was too short. You boys did a good job make it longer next time.

This show was mediocre at best. Wasn't worth the 1/2 hour drive it took to get there. I would not attend another MT Band show, even if it was free
