The Marshall Tucker Band on Tour

Southern rock pioneers The Marshall Tucker Band have created legendary music like "Can't You See" and "Fire on the Mountain" since the '70s. While the members have changed over the years, the music that defined a generation remains the same. The rockers still energize stadiums with their iconic sound that combines rock, jazz, country, righteous guitar solos, and instrumental jam sessions. The Marshall Tucker Band hit the road in 2022 for a tour of the U.S. in celebration of 50 years of making great music. So whether you're a die-hard fan of five decades or just looking for an excellent Southern rock performance, be sure to grab tickets to see the band on their 50th Anniversary Tour. You won't be disappointed.

The Marshall Tucker Band Live in Concert

The '70s were a golden age for pop-rock music, and The Marshall Tucker Band led the charge as a new wave of Southern rock bands began to emerge. In 1972, guitarist Toy Caldwell and rhythm guitarist George McCorkle formed the six-piece in South Carolina and named the band after a blind piano tuner whose name they found inscribed on their rehearsal space key. The original lineup consisted of Caldwell, his brother Tommy Caldwell on bass, McCorkle, vocalist Doug Gray, Jerry Eubanks on flute and tenor sax, and Paul Riddle on drums. The group initially gained recognition on tour with The Allman Brothers Band and found continued success thanks to their classic Southern melodies that were perfect for radio. The group's self-titled debut album was released in March 1973 and included the hit single "Can't You See," peaking at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Marshall Tucker Band took a brief break in 1980 after the death of bassist Tommy Caldwell, but the band was revived with a new lineup and began touring again in 1983. The group mostly stuck to their musical roots, but they did take some brief detours to explore other genres with 1998's all-blues album Face Down in the Blues and the 1999 spiritual album Gospel. Overall, The Marshall Tucker Band have released over 20 studio albums and dozens of live releases, which have collectively gone multi-platinum many times. The band remains active to this day, touring throughout the United States and celebrate their 50th anniversary on tour in 2022.

The band members that replaced the band members that are deceased or no longer with the original group were excellent. I love MTB and Doug Gray the original lead singer but he does not have the voice he once had but they are legends and he is 65 years old now. I admire him for keeping the band alive

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed this show. The band came to play. These guys are fined tuned to playing well, singing well and entertaing well. You could see it in their faces how much they enjoy rocking on stage. They came over as warm and friendly and did everything in their power to put on an awesome show. This was one of the best rock shows I have ever been to. Will go again in the future.

Sad and pitiful. Lead member - couldn't even speak clearly - obviously drunk or high - let alone hit a note or sing for longer than a phrase or two. He occasionally shook his tambourine, but mostly walked around on stage with his back to the audience talking to other band members while they showcased instrumentals cause it was obvious he couldn't sing anymore. Even a signature song like, "Heard it in a Love Song" - we weren't able to enjoy - other than our singing along because when he missed the notes himself he just held out the mic to the audience who sang it instead! Left after 5 songs....seriously a sad and obvious money grab on Marshall Tucker Band part....they were better on an 8 track for sure!

We have seen them many times before, but were never disappointed as we were this time. They pulled songs from way back when that most of the audience, including us never heard of. People were leaving in droves!!!! We were there to hear their hit songs, the ones everyone loves. We also know a bunch of others, but what they played, they were getting booed for!!! The whole audience knew maybe 4 songs.

Great musicians. Doug Gray spent way too much time talking to the audience and drinking before the show

  • Don't waste your time

by Laprus on 3/17/13The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 2 out of 5

The lead singer Doug gray needs to give up singing. He couldn't sing a majority of the notes.tThe audience sang more of the songs then him each time he held the microphone out to them. He had no problem telling us he was partying before he got on stage. It was obvious. If Marshall Tucker is going to survive a new lead singer better step up to the plate quickly.

  • How dare you?

I saw Marshall Tucker in 1982. They were great. Fast forward to 2013, and my only thought was, "How can you take my money and sleep at night?" I've read anything from 5 star reviews, to 1 star reviews. You never know who to believe, and I don't expect anyone to believe me. That being said, heed my words... Don't go. If you decide to spend your hard earned money to see this show, you won't be able to blame me for not warning you. The two guitar players, bass player, keyboard/flute player, slide guitar player and drummer are all excellent musicians. Real professionals, giving it their all. You could tell by watching them, however, that even they are embarrassed by this sham of a performance by "brother Doug." For them, it's a paycheck, and as a working man, I can relate. But you can tell that they don't feel good about the product "Marshall Tucker" is putting out. Doug Gray, once upon a time, was a great singer. He no longer is, and that is just the hard reality of life. Nothing personal, I have spent many an hour listening to Doug and am grateful for his talent. But he owes it to himself, and to his fans, to stop taking their money. He can no longer perform, and needs to retire. If he needs money, then he should earn it honestly, and not by trading on the Marshall Tucker name. I am sorry I went. And even though it was a colossal waste of money, that is not why. I am sorry, because up until now, the name "Marshall Tucker" always brought a smile to my face, and fond memories of great music. Now those memories have been irrevocably tainted. And that is a shame.

the worst concert I have ever been too. The only original member needs to retire. Could not understand one word he said. Best part was when the rest of the band sang.

kind of disappointed in song selection and the fact that doug gray cant hit the high notes anymore but there were other people in band with great voices and they were limited with the amount of songs they sang and doug gray did more talking it seems than singing and he didnt even introduce all the members of the band.the last time i will see them in concert

Real long set for MTB 1:45 nice long jams! Doug sounded great. Reached way back for "In My Own Way". Best show I have seen of MTB in years. Great having Chris Hicks back in the fold for this show, guitar work outstanding! Cabaret seating was perfect, can't do the GA shows anymore, sucks gutting old. See you guys at Rams Head.

by AriGator on 12/30/12B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

If I didn't already love these guys this show would have convinced me that I should. Chris Hicks sang Georgia Moon and Doug Gray pulled out a couple of songs from their catalog as well. The band was just way over the top and totally wonderful as well.

Way too crowded. It was a cold night, and we were in standing room with no where to check our coats. The band itself was good, but. Vocals were awful.

  • horrible

The show was really bad, there was no one on the sound board. Sounded bad. Lead singer couldnt hold a tune. Very disappointed. I have always love MTB but this was not MArshall Tucker, this sounded like a bad bar band trying to do MT. They need to retire.

  • Marshall Tucker Band at Lucas County Fairgrounds

by Rumbo on 8/11/12Lucas County Fairgrounds - MaumeeRating: 5 out of 5

Marshall Tucker always comes through even less than a week after long time guitarist Stuart Swanlund passed away. Doug Grey has backed off of the vocals a bit and let the others have a shot and they picked up the slack nicely. They played all the old favorites and I definitely would go see them again!

  • Down-to-earth rockers!

These guys can all sing, play, and laugh their hearts out! And they are obviously very decent folks.

by Majh on 6/12/12Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 2 out of 5

The sound was too loud and in the beginning there was blowback. The music was good but I would have liked to hear more songs and less guitar solos, especially with the sound being so loud.i really enjoyed the singer guitarist on the far right .
