The Marshall Tucker Band on Tour

Southern rock pioneers The Marshall Tucker Band have created legendary music like "Can't You See" and "Fire on the Mountain" since the '70s. While the members have changed over the years, the music that defined a generation remains the same. The rockers still energize stadiums with their iconic sound that combines rock, jazz, country, righteous guitar solos, and instrumental jam sessions. The Marshall Tucker Band hit the road in 2022 for a tour of the U.S. in celebration of 50 years of making great music. So whether you're a die-hard fan of five decades or just looking for an excellent Southern rock performance, be sure to grab tickets to see the band on their 50th Anniversary Tour. You won't be disappointed.

The Marshall Tucker Band Live in Concert

The '70s were a golden age for pop-rock music, and The Marshall Tucker Band led the charge as a new wave of Southern rock bands began to emerge. In 1972, guitarist Toy Caldwell and rhythm guitarist George McCorkle formed the six-piece in South Carolina and named the band after a blind piano tuner whose name they found inscribed on their rehearsal space key. The original lineup consisted of Caldwell, his brother Tommy Caldwell on bass, McCorkle, vocalist Doug Gray, Jerry Eubanks on flute and tenor sax, and Paul Riddle on drums. The group initially gained recognition on tour with The Allman Brothers Band and found continued success thanks to their classic Southern melodies that were perfect for radio. The group's self-titled debut album was released in March 1973 and included the hit single "Can't You See," peaking at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Marshall Tucker Band took a brief break in 1980 after the death of bassist Tommy Caldwell, but the band was revived with a new lineup and began touring again in 1983. The group mostly stuck to their musical roots, but they did take some brief detours to explore other genres with 1998's all-blues album Face Down in the Blues and the 1999 spiritual album Gospel. Overall, The Marshall Tucker Band have released over 20 studio albums and dozens of live releases, which have collectively gone multi-platinum many times. The band remains active to this day, touring throughout the United States and celebrate their 50th anniversary on tour in 2022.

The show was not what I expected, but it was REALLY GOOD, the new flute and sax player was fa nominal. and the guitar player was excellent too. The main man had lost a little in the power of his voice, but the other members made up for what he lacked. All in all it was a very good concert and I would go to see them again. I loved the new music too.

I bought tickets as soon as they went on sale and had good ones. The bad news is, I was feeling under the weather and had to miss the show. I hate it. MTB is one of my favorite bands.

  • entertaining show

They played all their hits and the band was outstanding. Doug Gray told some great stories. He can't sing that well anymore but he let the other bandmembers sing plenty so overall it was very good. If you're a MTB fan, definitely worth going.

  • Big Disappointment

by ScottyMon on 8/26/14Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 1 out of 5

My apologies for this one being a lifelong MTB fans and have seen them 20+ times. This show was a big letdown for me because Doug Gray wouldn't stop talking (rambling) betwen songs. Our favorite, "Can't You See" was stopped by Doug right in the middle so he could talk some more. Great musicians, sloppy delivery, poor song selection. Again, my apologies for this rating. Doug might consider hanging it up. Very pleasant and charmning when he talks, but the music itself had to fight for face time with the audience.

  • Marshall Tucker Band was authentic and fun!

Really enjoyed the genuine showmanship of this stellar band.

The show was a complete disappointment. It sucks to go to a concert when the lead singer doesn't take the job seriously. We go out of our way to support the band - buy the tickets, sit in traffic, fight for a parking space, knowing all the while it will be worth it to go to a fantastic venue like Uptown Theatre in Napa and enjoy an evening of music. That concert was a freaking mess.

  • Marshall Tucker rocked the house!

If u get a chance to see them...do it! They were fun, energetic, seemed to be having fun on stage and the drummer was off the hook!

  • Somewhat disappointing

by QQBob on 8/25/14Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 2 out of 5

Started 1.5 hours after billed with a long, long warm up act and after announced came out 5 minutes later. Another band that doesn't realize people work Fridays, they get up at 6 am, work all day, get home at 6 pm then need to wait until 9:30 pm to see the band they paid to see. Buy a clue a 16 hour day is a lot to ask.

  • Neither Band was good

    by JT9301 on 8/25/14Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 1 out of 5

The warm up band sounded like they were drugged. Nothing like the review that was written. MTB never came alive either. Too much talking not enough playing of what we all came for, great music that they have produced over the years. Will not go if they come again.

  • Still love to hear'em....

    by RL56 on 8/23/14Uptown Napa Ca. - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

Last night’s show at the Uptown left many Tucker fans wondering when Marcus, the all-around Star of the last two Tucker shows at the Uptown, will take over lead singing…the kid is UNREAL. Marcus had his own harem last night…you never see that at the Uptown not with Yoakam or even Black. Last time they were in the Uptown, a year or so ago, Marcus saved the show… most of us last night hoped to see more of him and we did, just not enough. He can sign all the Tucker material like he was raised on it they jam as good as ever just lacking that Tucker kick as vocals...let's face it I don't know a Tucker fan who isn't because the Tucker vocals...not one. They only have two voices who can save the band they need to let the them sing Classic Tucker and still tell the stories between the song… great stories between the songs. Still love these guys, we raised our kids and we’ll raise their kids on Tucker.

Did not disappoint. Could've listened to them for hours.

MTB great as usual, and did not disappoint. They love their fans and it shows! Played all their classics, great interaction with audience. Venue - not the best sound system, staff somewhat disorganized, many audience members did not even buy tickets but it didn't make a difference as there were no checks done! A security staff member from Jenks seen shooting pictures of the band as he was supposed to be working! Opening acts were great, especially a Jersey-based band Slim Chance and the Gamblers. I would see them again in a heartbeat! Hope to see MTB back again real soon!

I wish they would have done more old songs, everything else was very good.

  • Marshall Tucker - Cleveland

by Timchot on 7/29/14Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park Hard Rock Live - NorthfieldRating: 1 out of 5

One of my favorite bands since I was 16 years old but never had the chance to see them until now - and I wish I hadn't because the what was presented on stage vocally and musically paled in comparison to the vinyl. I won't name names, but if your voice is gone, and I mean really gone, it's time to call it a day. This was evidenced by the fact that it was up to the audience to sing the choruses. I didn't really recognize Fire On The Mountain until the chorus - and no acoustic guitar??? So many good songs but instead we got a lot of talking, and jam songs which were great had it really been Marshall Tucker. Keyboardist and flutist was the only person to bring a spark. So disappointed.......

  • marshall tucker Band still has that magic

by snelsonbrown on 7/28/14Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park Hard Rock Live - NorthfieldRating: 5 out of 5

Show was even better than expected. Enjoyed the wide range of music and jams that are the hallmark of the experience. The band made you believe they were having fun and you were a part of sitting in a field drinking beer and singing along- a group of friends just enjoying life

  • Marshall Tucker still has it!

by ChipTerri on 7/28/14Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park Hard Rock Live - NorthfieldRating: 5 out of 5

Doug Gray may not be able to hit all the notes that he used to but you can still feel the passion in his delivery. He was very amusing when he was telling stories about the songs and his past. The band blew it out of the water. That sax / flute player can really play and sing. Loved the show even though it was kind of short.

Marshall Tucker has so many good classic songs and they only played 3. Too much instrumental, not enough singing.
