The Marshall Tucker Band on Tour

Southern rock pioneers The Marshall Tucker Band have created legendary music like "Can't You See" and "Fire on the Mountain" since the '70s. While the members have changed over the years, the music that defined a generation remains the same. The rockers still energize stadiums with their iconic sound that combines rock, jazz, country, righteous guitar solos, and instrumental jam sessions. The Marshall Tucker Band hit the road in 2022 for a tour of the U.S. in celebration of 50 years of making great music. So whether you're a die-hard fan of five decades or just looking for an excellent Southern rock performance, be sure to grab tickets to see the band on their 50th Anniversary Tour. You won't be disappointed.

The Marshall Tucker Band Live in Concert

The '70s were a golden age for pop-rock music, and The Marshall Tucker Band led the charge as a new wave of Southern rock bands began to emerge. In 1972, guitarist Toy Caldwell and rhythm guitarist George McCorkle formed the six-piece in South Carolina and named the band after a blind piano tuner whose name they found inscribed on their rehearsal space key. The original lineup consisted of Caldwell, his brother Tommy Caldwell on bass, McCorkle, vocalist Doug Gray, Jerry Eubanks on flute and tenor sax, and Paul Riddle on drums. The group initially gained recognition on tour with The Allman Brothers Band and found continued success thanks to their classic Southern melodies that were perfect for radio. The group's self-titled debut album was released in March 1973 and included the hit single "Can't You See," peaking at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Marshall Tucker Band took a brief break in 1980 after the death of bassist Tommy Caldwell, but the band was revived with a new lineup and began touring again in 1983. The group mostly stuck to their musical roots, but they did take some brief detours to explore other genres with 1998's all-blues album Face Down in the Blues and the 1999 spiritual album Gospel. Overall, The Marshall Tucker Band have released over 20 studio albums and dozens of live releases, which have collectively gone multi-platinum many times. The band remains active to this day, touring throughout the United States and celebrate their 50th anniversary on tour in 2022.

  • Marshall Tucker Band: Vintage Southern Rock

by EELawson on 7/28/14Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park Hard Rock Live - NorthfieldRating: 4 out of 5

The southern rock bands of the 70's are nearly gone. Allman Brothers, Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band. So if you are a fan of that era take advantage when the opportunity arises. Doug Gray is the only remaining original member, he sings lead and his vocals are weak, but he has a great time and tells stories about the old days. The jamming was great with dual lead guitars. The sound of a band just jamming takes me back to those outdoor southern rock fests of my youth. - E.E.Lawson

MTB was very good although the song selection was not what I thought to be the best. These guys are tremendous at their craft and to be around 43 years is incredible. I am so happy I went to see them.

I WENT KNOWING IT WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS,BUT ONE LONG WINDED,RAMBLING MEMBER (I THINK HE WAS IN CHARGE OF CHECKING THE OIL ON THE TOUR BUS) BUT THIS GUY WAS BUSY PATTING HIMSELF ON THE BACK MORE THAN PLAYING MUSIC, (OH WAIT -"PLAYING THE TAMBORING" IS AN ART FORM ) AND I MISSPELLED IT ON PURPOSE. THAT BEING SAID. IF THEY GAVE THAT HILLBILY MONEY TO STAY HOME, IT WOULD BE A PRETTY GOOD SHOW.

  • Marshall Tucker Band was amazing

    by DonnaB1019 on 6/27/14Paramount theatre - PeekskillRating: 5 out of 5

Saw the band this evening and I can't say enough about how great their performance was. I'm so happy right now because I was very apprehensive about going due to so many poor reviews. The performance tonight at the Paramount theatre was great. The music was not too loud, their jam sessions were amazing. Really enjoyed the guitars and sax's duel. The lead singer sang a solo with just a piano playing and it took my breath away. They played a lot of great songs and they all sounded amazing. I've been to a lot of concerts and we think tonight's performance is up there with the Allman Brothers. Really really enjoyed the show.

  • Mixed Bag...

by BillWms on 6/15/14The Town of Livingston - Madison CountyRating: 3 out of 5

First, the good: Blackjack Billy & Samantha Landrum were great. Put on a great show. They should have the main acts. Second, the bad: MTB (specifically, the lead singer) should hang it up. Had it not been for him, the show would have been about as expected. What a disappointment...

  • by Anonymous on 6/11/14The Town of Livingston - Madison CountyRating: 2 out of 5

Samantha Landrum and her band were outstanding, as was Blackjack Billy and his band. The performance by the Marshall Tucker Band started 20 minutes late. The music was so loud my family and I went to our car to listen to the rest of the concert. With the windows up, the AC on and the car running we could easily hear the words to the songs. The lead singer was not on key, he was flat, and slurred his words. I was very disappointed. Apparently we were not the only ones unhappy with the deafening volume and poor quality of the performance. As we sat in our car we watched a steady stream of people leaving the concert after the first song by the Marshall Tucker Band.

  • Fabulous

by TSHNH on 6/3/14Indian Ranch, Blue Oyster, The Flying Monkey - Webster, Ma. Plymouth, NH.Rating: 5 out of 5

I am reading the reviews and was stunned to read some of them complaining about Doug Gray's voice. Is he able to sing Ramblin like he did in the 70's , no but the guy always puts his heart into his performances and has surrounded him with magnificent musicians who help him carry on the legacy on the MTB. Not to mention he had throat surgery about ten yrs ago. If you are planning on seeing them this yr don't expect to see them do the songs the way you remember from the 80's. The show is highlighted by the artistry of Marcus Who plays everything from flute to sax n key board. Chris Hicks singer songwriter who does every MTB song justice, Rick Willis on guitar and vocals that when he opens his mouth comes this deep southern roar that shakes the rafters. BB on drums with his signature vest and skinny genes jams with all his might and a bass player that is happy picking away with little movement. I suggest you stick around after a show and meet Doug Gray, he is a little shorter than you would think and is always willing to greet fans with a smile and a level of humility not found in entertainment these days.

  • What a Sax Player...

by LiveMusicGuru on 5/26/14The Coach House - San Juan CapistranoRating: 4 out of 5

Doug Gray, lead singer, sang very few songs (it was obvious his voice is fragile after all these years) however the rest of the band sang well. There was much audience participation during the hit songs - but the highlights of the night belonged to the multi -talented sax, flute, and keyboard player. The guy simply wailed on whatever instrument he was playing. That was worth the price of admission alone. You don't often hear this type of jamming anymore - so overall a good concert.

The Marshall Tucker band was one of the best concerts I have ever seen ! The keyboard player sorry don't know his name was amazing he played the flute, sax and also sang. The music took you away! Beautiful must see! Do not buy gold circle seats rip off but GA seats get ther early you will get a table!

Great concert 43 yrs strong and still going. I just hope Doug can keep his voice going!

  • Waste of $-too much jamming!

    by ANo1Fan on 3/26/14The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 1 out of 5

They are my favorite band of all time from my teens to my twenties. We waited for them to play the songs we love and most of the time was spent jamming. We finally heard 2 songs and then that was it, more jamming. It was nice too know we weren't they only ones who felt like this. We heard people around us disappointed as well. We left early.

  • Leave Doug alone!!!

by ALANDRO on 3/25/14PARAMOUNT - HUNTINGTONRating: 4 out of 5

Its a little disappointing hearing some of these reviews calling for Doug Gray to quit the band and let the young guys take over. Without him there is no band. I will agree that his voice is not what it used to be but if you had the idea that you were seeing Tucker of the 70s and 80s im sorry but thats a little naive. If you know Tucker, Doug was never the frontman anyway. After Toy and Tommy died he took over but really never wanted to. Give the man credit for trying to keep this music alive. I got exactly what i wanted to see, a very good show with some talented musicians and another nice memory of Marshall Tucker. It was nice to remember how it felt to be 18 again. Oh and the ticket price wasnt that bad either. Keep plugging away Doug!!!!!

  • Marshall tucker was awful

by Mtsucked on 3/24/14The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 1 out of 5

The singer needs to retire and collect old age pension. What was he saying? Never heard the words. Really a bad show. Of the 1,000 I've. Seen. The worst! Refunds for all who attended

  • The marshall Band Disappointed

by LTBruce on 3/24/14The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 1 out of 5

This is one old Rock & Roll band that has lost its magic and really needs to call it quits. More specifically the only original member and lead singer Doug Gray who clearly has lost his voice. The Show consisted of nothing but screeching loud overly long jams attached to some of the original bands hits to cover for the lack of vocal performance. The Band features some talented musicians but even they couldn't rescue show from the poor musical direction and Doug Gray's strained vocals and long ramblings between songs. I must admit that some of the audience seemed to enjoy the show but I'm not sure it was true enthusiasm mixed with alcohol and nostalgia or just politeness.

  • Great Performance

by Muckster on 3/24/14Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

They may be old but they can still rock the house. They were entertaining and can still play some great music.

  • NICE MEMORIES

by ALANDRO on 3/24/14The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 4 out of 5

This by no means was the same band that i saw 25 years ago but i didnt expect them to be. Doug Gray is the only original member but the band was tight and they did a great job playing all the old songs. Dougs voice has lost its edge and a few times it was hard to even understand what he was singing but i give him credit for keeping the band alive. The other members of the band shared vocals and did help him make up for some shortcomings. I refuse to knock a 66 year old man who is still a great showman. He did a fine job and the band behind him did also. If you are looking for Tucker from the past not the show to see but if you want to see a show that will bring you back to younger times and give you a pretty good memory then without a doubt go. You wont be dissapointed!!!
