The Marshall Tucker Band on Tour
Southern rock pioneers The Marshall Tucker Band have created legendary music like "Can't You See" and "Fire on the Mountain" since the '70s. While the members have changed over the years, the music that defined a generation remains the same. The rockers still energize stadiums with their iconic sound that combines rock, jazz, country, righteous guitar solos, and instrumental jam sessions. The Marshall Tucker Band hit the road in 2022 for a tour of the U.S. in celebration of 50 years of making great music. So whether you're a die-hard fan of five decades or just looking for an excellent Southern rock performance, be sure to grab tickets to see the band on their 50th Anniversary Tour. You won't be disappointed.
The Marshall Tucker Band Live in Concert
The '70s were a golden age for pop-rock music, and The Marshall Tucker Band led the charge as a new wave of Southern rock bands began to emerge. In 1972, guitarist Toy Caldwell and rhythm guitarist George McCorkle formed the six-piece in South Carolina and named the band after a blind piano tuner whose name they found inscribed on their rehearsal space key. The original lineup consisted of Caldwell, his brother Tommy Caldwell on bass, McCorkle, vocalist Doug Gray, Jerry Eubanks on flute and tenor sax, and Paul Riddle on drums. The group initially gained recognition on tour with The Allman Brothers Band and found continued success thanks to their classic Southern melodies that were perfect for radio. The group's self-titled debut album was released in March 1973 and included the hit single "Can't You See," peaking at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Marshall Tucker Band took a brief break in 1980 after the death of bassist Tommy Caldwell, but the band was revived with a new lineup and began touring again in 1983. The group mostly stuck to their musical roots, but they did take some brief detours to explore other genres with 1998's all-blues album Face Down in the Blues and the 1999 spiritual album Gospel. Overall, The Marshall Tucker Band have released over 20 studio albums and dozens of live releases, which have collectively gone multi-platinum many times. The band remains active to this day, touring throughout the United States and celebrate their 50th anniversary on tour in 2022.

Love the bands but I will NEVER go to another concert inside the Nugget Casino Grand Ballroom in Sparks, NV again. #1 - The sound was horrible where you could not understand the words, even though I know the words. #2 - We had people constantly walking in front of us, blocking our view, as they go to and from buying drinks. #3 - The employees were chit-chatting with guests for 10-30 minutes so loud they were interrupting the concert we PAID to see.
Starship was Awesome as well as Marshall Tucker. When I bought tics for this concert I thought I was going to see Mickey Thomas Starship, but it was the Other Starship? 2 Starships?
Hard rock casino was a great easy venue. All around. I didn't care for the casino though. Jefferson Starship hit it out of the park! I was so pleasantly surprised!! My favorite Marshall tucker band was great music. But they didn't play all the favorites and seemed like less singing. I actually expected more than I got. But love the band. It maybe time to just enjoy my cd. All in all we had a great time!
The Starship was a little disappointing, but The Marshall Tucker Band was awesome. Doug Gray, the original member was still pretty good, but he choose to take a back seat to the Flute, Sax, Keyboard (Marcus Hendrickson?) who really shined with all his instruments and had a very strong voice as well. The lead guitar player was really great as well with his licks and voice. I would definitely see them again.
This is a band with over 20 albums and great history and they still have all the talent they had in their prime. Lead singer was great and told a lot of great stories. There was a guitarist who also sang and that guy is a first class Rocker ! Drummer was solid and played an excellent solo. The band member who played keyboard, flute and saxophone was excellent all night.
Songs from both groups brought my memory back to the 70’s. However, seated in 102 U. The guy seated in front of me kept his big hat on. I had to lean left or right to see stage. So most of concert was tv screens.
I myself grew up in the 70s so I heard a lot of rock band but born in 1961 so I didn't hear a lot of Jefferson Airplane even though they split in 1972 but reformed as Jefferson Starship in 1974 saying that I liked their music. And Marchall Tucker yes, I listened to their music back in the day but didn't keep up as much saying that I did enjoy their music.
The music was good but not the singing by Marshall. Not enough singing but plenty of instrumentals. Casino band was much better. Disappointing
I booked 6 tickets for me and my 2 brothers and wives in what I thought by the map of seating were OUTSTANDING seats! Second tier right on the edge of the balcony. Awesome on paper the big screen was right in our line of sight. We could see the back half of the drummer and every once in while the keyboard/flutist. Very POOR arrangement of seating and stage gear! Sorry the sound was amazing and the groups were awesome to hear but I know all y’all know you like to see what’s happening on stage.
The tickets were cheap enough, so I guess I shouldn’t have expected too much from the venue. The acoustic were bad which took away from the band. (For only having one original band member, they still rocked it).I was pleasantly surprised with the turn out giving this place a new life. Someone there has a great plan in place with lots of good shows coming up. Maybe if they would hire a sound company to add some strategic speakers, this place would rock.
My wife and I went to this show expecting that there could be issues due to the age of the singer. But the issues flowed to the band as well. Musically they weren't the best, I would say just ok. The singer felt it necessary to want to tell stories. We didn't go to listen to him talk. We went to hear him sing and that was mediocre at best.
I was surprised no one introduced the bands . The bands were just therewhen they turned on the lights. Jefferson Starship was great. The musicians for Marshall Tucker were very good, however they need a replacement for the lead singer. He has no voice left. They have become a jam band as they stretched out each song by about 10 minutes. They sang very few oldies in their 1.5 hours and those weren't done very well IMHO. Maybe I put some unfair expectations on them but people come to hear some of the oldies. I understand they have 24 albums so hard to get in many oldies but they seemed to only play 8-9 songs in that 1.5 hours as they kept stretching out each song with improvisational solos by the band members. The musicians were very good but was expecting something different, especially the vocals of the lead singer. He needs to step down . Jefferson Starship was the star of the show. They should've been the headliner.
The sound was horrible straight back from the stage. The instrumental took over the voices and they were distorted.
The bands were so loud, venue had terrible acoustics. Had to leave many times during concert, finally left early.
I have been listening to MTB for over 50 years J was disappointed with the length the choice of songs and it didn’t sound like MTB to me
I've loved the band for years, and it was great to experience in person. As for the venue, didn't realized it was dining room chairs set-up in a room so it wasn't very comfortable as it was very close. For the band, quit letting the audience sing the songs for you. I get audience participation is fun, but I wanted to hear YOU!
Marshall Tucker Band gave a great performance! Chris Hicks kept everything going, and Doug Gray especially delivered great vocals. All other band mates also gave a great performance.
Very loud and the sound mix was terrible if you were anywhere to the left or right. Flute was shrill and overpowering. We moved to the center in the second part of the show and really enjoyed it much more. Great musicians and Doug Gray's voice still has it.
It's true, Doug Gray is the only "original"member of the current version of the Marshall Tucker Band. In reality, who cares! These guys are absolutely the "Real Deal"! Truly talented musicians that played their collective "hearts"and vocal Chords out for almost 2 hours at the Talking Stick Ballroom venue. The only thing I missed was the song "Ramblin". They played virtually all their hit songs and I can't imagine any version of the band doing a better job. Period! Great time at a great price and I just love concerts at this venue as the sound system is spectacular. And that might be an understatement!! Go see'em, you'll be so glad you did.
