The Marshall Tucker Band on Tour
Southern rock pioneers The Marshall Tucker Band have created legendary music like "Can't You See" and "Fire on the Mountain" since the '70s. While the members have changed over the years, the music that defined a generation remains the same. The rockers still energize stadiums with their iconic sound that combines rock, jazz, country, righteous guitar solos, and instrumental jam sessions. The Marshall Tucker Band Live in Concert
The '70s were a golden age for pop-rock music, and The Marshall Tucker Band led the charge as a new wave of Southern rock bands began to emerge. In 1972, guitarist Toy Caldwell and rhythm guitarist George McCorkle formed the six-piece in South Carolina and named the band after a blind piano tuner whose name they found inscribed on their rehearsal space key. The original lineup consisted of Caldwell, his brother Tommy Caldwell on bass, McCorkle, vocalist Doug Gray, Jerry Eubanks on flute and tenor sax, and Paul Riddle on drums. The group initially gained recognition on tour with The Allman Brothers Band and found continued success thanks to their classic Southern melodies that were perfect for radio. The group's self-titled debut album was released in March 1973 and included the hit single "Can't You See," peaking at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Marshall Tucker Band took a brief break in 1980 after the death of bassist Tommy Caldwell, but the band was revived with a new lineup and began touring again in 1983. The group mostly stuck to their musical roots, but they did take some brief detours to explore other genres with 1998's all-blues album Face Down in the Blues and the 1999 spiritual album Gospel. Overall, The Marshall Tucker Band have released over 20 studio albums and dozens of live releases, which have collectively gone multi-platinum many times. The band remains active to this day, touring throughout the United States and celebrate their 50th anniversary on tour in 2022.

Great venue. Jefferson Starship was awesome. Although several of the band members of the Marshall Tucker Band are still excellent musicians, the lead singer tended to ramble a bit much, and his voice was off.
The event was Excellent Set up was great And have an intermission was awesome
This concert was so wonderful and precious. I loved seeing them still going strong after 50 years! Venue was comfortable and sound was great. If you get a chance to see them, do. You won't be sorry!
I've loved listening to Marshall Tucker since they first came on the scene but this concert was a disappointment , as far as their performance was concerned .....The concert started great with The Jefferson Starship in full form .... after they finished ,, Marshall Tucker came on and started with Heard it in a Love Song - the crowd was ready- we were primed .Then, for the next hour and something , they made it thru Fire on the Mountain , Fly Like an Eagle , Can't you See and a couple other tunes I didn't know . The problem was that during these songs, they would go off on 10 min instrumentals that just filled up time - Doug Gray was either off to the side or off the stage a great deal of the time ..... So ,instead of getting thru 12 -15 songs plus an encore -they got thru maybe 7 - I don't get it , the keyboard player ( who played , I think, 4 other instruments as well as singing exceptionally well ) ; the 2 guitarists and the drummer were all extraordinary- I get the Gray is older and has lost a lot of his vocal range ( and probably singing endurance ) but his supporting cast was amazing and they could have carried the weight of the extra songs - which would have sent the audience over the top .... I've seen Rod Stewart , The Doobie Bros , Kenny Loggins ,Gladys Knight , Tower of Power , Grand Funk , Maria Muldar and Jefferson Starship within the past year - all are older artists - some like Gladys , Maria and the male singer from StarShip are in their 80's and they STILL put on a great , energetic ,full ,show with encores - so I felt a little taken by the MTB ( who I've probably seen 6-7 times going back to the Toy and Tommy Caldwell days ) - made me sad ...... and , Disappointed
Jefferson Starship was a great experience. Everyone in the band sounded great, and they played music by Janis Joplin which was an awesome surprise. The Marshall Tucker band however suffers due to their lead singer and only remaining member of the original band. He has had multiple vocal cord surgeries and was having problems way back in 2006. It seems like they've been doing this thing for quite some time where he kind of lets the rest of the band sing or play instruments for a lot of the songs. Which really isn't bad because the band is really good and I think if he got another frontman to actually sing like him or just really let the rest of the band sing the songs because they sounded great it would have been an awesome experience. But that's not what happened. You really can't understand what he is saying when he talks due to his vocal cord damage and hard southern accent. You can research all of this, which I wish I had done previously. I still had a great experience due to Jefferson airplane and honestly the band players in the Marshall Tucker band are great musicians and sound amazing. It's just really really really rough to hear somebody sing the songs that you're so used to hearing very clearly kind of just gargle through them. And his microphone is so much louder than the rest of the band so it's really pronounced.
We actually thought Jefferson Starship was better than the Marshall Tucker Band. Voice is gone and the rest of the band picked it up! I have seen Marshall Tucker many times and I have 5 old albums from Marshall Tucker, I listened to them the next day on my record player. Still love them! Time for them to let go! Sorry, I really wanted to leave a good review, but it wasn’t meant to be!
Could have played longer than an hour. Lotta money for just an hour.
Been to countless MTB concerts going back to 1977 and have seen them a few times over the past 5 years. I was disappointed that they only played for an hour and performed 7 songs with 2 of them not even MTB songs. Such a great catalog of music, I expected the show to go longer with a few more of their classics.
New band. They played 7 songs in an hour. They’re now a jam band.
The lead singer needs to hang it up. The music was great but they need a new lead singer. Short concert only played for one hour. Very disappointing
My wife and go to a lot of concerts. We like Marshall T, but not super fans. We thought this was one of the top 5 concerts we have seen in the last 8 years.
51 years and still rocking. The Marshall Tucker Band got the audience on there feet and singing. Fun time for an older crowd.
My first, AND LAST time attending a concert at the Sparks Nugget Ballroom. Acoustics are awful and seating is just a tad worse.....I was so looking forward to seeing both groups....I'll be looking for them at better venue. This wasn't a concert....it was a beating.
Lets start with the opening act...Jefferson Starship. AMAZING! The songs brought us back to our high school days! The Marshall Tucker band...I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the lead vocalist, Doug Gray. His voice was great back in the day but he needs to step back and let the younger, stronger voices take the lead. All of the musicians were terrific and the songs bring back loads of memories. I know it must be hard for vocalists as they get older and don't want it to end but maybe just let others do the lead singing and you do something else. All in all....great time was had!
Starship was way better than I expected and Marshall Tucker left us...well... we left early.
This was such a phenomenal concert. Not only did they play our favorites but a added surprise was when Jefferson Starship came on stage and sang with them. Truly one of the best concerts we have been to in a very long time
First off Jefferson Starship rocked! They put on a high energy rocking show. We are Marshall Tucker fan and have seen them numerous times, and loved them. After Doug Grey bragging about being a super hard working band, he did less vocals and had more long guitar solos and songs I had not heard by his band. The organ/ flute/saxophone player was amazing with both playing and high energy vocals. The guitarists were very talented and the drummer was most Excellent Doug, it’s time to retire on your fantastic career. There’s a lot to being said for going out on top…….too late.
I preferred to hear all MTB hits and music. The instrumental solo performances did not fit. Doug Gray was on his game!
Both groups singers have lost their ability to be able to hit the notes that they need to. Both groups had fantastic musicians and two of them from Marshal Tucker could have done all of the singing. That would have greatly improved the quality of the music. The lead singer is great at telling stories. He should do that and leave the singing to the keyboard/woodwind player and lead guitarist. The venue is not a good place for a concert. The experience was way too expensive for the quality of the event and venue.
The music was great. The venue staff were helpful, the venue it’s self should be sloped and stage higher for better viewing
