  • Show was not professional

by Kpmaxx on 10/31/25Centennial Hall - TucsonRating: 1 out of 5

Unfortunately singers were very poor-off key and more of a lounge caliber where expectations are low. Lighting and audio was poor which I blame Centennial Hall for unless they brought their own equipment. You couldn’t understand them. Not worth going to or spending the money on. They were not vetted for any professional standards. Very disappointing.

  • Motown Show in Tacoma was FIRE!!!

    by K. love on 10/30/25Rating: 5 out of 5

My momma and I had the best time ever! The Motown show was super lit!!! Shades of Blue are some bad dudes on that stage. They had steps for every song and the younger guy had to be a professional dancer. Memories with my mom that will last a lifetime. Thank you shades of blue.

  • Group Was Great But Show Fell Short

by MsFly on 10/29/25Rialto Theater - TacomaRating: 3 out of 5

The Magic of Motown vocalists and band were excellent and delivered faithful versions of a wide range of Motown jams. Their energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and they kept the audience involved all evening. But we felt that the pre-concert advertising for the event was misleading and deceptive. The poster photo included women singers, and gave the impression that several groups would be performing. We bought tickets with the expectation that the show would include one or two personifications of Motown "girl groups". The concert opened with a group of five male singers, and when the same five returned to the stage after intermission, we realized they would be the only vocalists performing that night. This was disappointing. Another issue was the emcee, who was also one of the singers. He seemed determined to upstage the other four in every song, and made a spectacle of himself by running around the stage maniacally, dancing frantically and talking and hollering over the music. My party of four thought he seemed to be high, and his performance was distracting and extremely annoying. I do want to give props to the other four singers and the band, all of whom performed with heart and authenticity. They were great.

  • No magic in this Motown

by Shelly on 10/29/25Centennial Hall - TucsonRating: 1 out of 5

We love Motown-this show was awful.Couldn't understand any of the words, muffled mics, dancing was poor, no real lighting. This was the worst show we have seen ever. Ladies looked terrible in the costumes. Many people left very early.we should have. The band was the only good part.

  • Best experience ever

by CEH on 10/29/25Rialto Theater - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

I really loved the show. The guys were great and I learned a lot about Motown. It was great to see original band members from other groups.

  • Disappointed

by Adele on 10/29/25Centennial Hall - TucsonRating: 3 out of 5

The actual show was good! The performers were exciting and engaging but what a shame and disservice to them that the sound and acoustics was sub par and the spotlight non existent, leaving the main singer in the dark.

  • Motown brought back to life!

by Songbird on 10/28/25Rialto Theater - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

We loved the musical selections, singing, dancing and the history lessons described by the son of the original Motown grandpa! He was great! A fun night!

Can't sing... Can't dance... rudimentary sound system... poor engineering. Nuff said?

  • BAD Sound Mix Spoiled a Good Performance.

by Thesolarguy on 10/28/25Centennial Hall - TucsonRating: 3 out of 5

As a semi-pro sound engineer and musician, I can honestly say the Motown Experience in Tucson was probably pretty good, but frankly it was impossible to tell as the room mix was AWFUL! Have been to hundreds of concerts over 50+ including many at Centennial Hall in Tucson and the sound there has always been above average so I know the system and space are capable. The vocals were buried and muffled; from the between song patter to what should have been the most soaring, transcendent harmonies were virtually unintelligible. It straight forward sounded like we were hearing only the monitors. The female vocals were the worst; our seat neighbors commented "they'd be better off without microphones". The guitar was well mixed, the bass a little muddy but OK, the keyboard mostly inaudible with the synth a little better and the drums sounded like cardboard. All were pro level players and the musical mud could be forgiven if the singers could be heard. Lest you think mine was an isolated bad hearing night, everyone around us from my wife to the young and old alike all said they couldn't understand a word. As my wife put it: if I didn't know the lyrics by heart, I'd have no idea what they are singing. The audience made up for a little of this by singing along to pretty much everything. Proud that Tucson represented! I hope the Motowners will return to Tucson someday with a competent engineer.
