    Drowsy Chaperone was awesome!

by dktb on 5/14/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

It was hillarious with never a dull moment . Even withough intermission, time flew by. Clay Aiken definitely proved his ability to act, so much so that I didn't even noticed that he never sang, (although he mouthed all the songs!) Fantastic job done by the whole cast!

    The Drowsy Chaperone

by Miamil on 5/14/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

The play was wonderful but the real surprise was Clay Aiken's acting ability. Who knew?!?!? Of course he can sing, but to have TWO talents like that! All the performers were superb--everyone kept in character all the time. The play was laugh-out-loud funny, the music was toe tapping, all in all just a really fun event!

I enjoyed the show very much. I was a little disappointed that Clay Aiken did not sing! However he did a great job as the man in the chair. The other cast members were obviously very talented and sang wonderfully!!

The play was fabulous! Every actor was great! I especially enjoyed Clay as "the man in the chair" and the actor who played Adolpho. I have to admit I was apprehensive about seeing a show that Clay did not sing in, but he was so entertaining. He always pulls the audience in and has them right where he wants them-no different with this show. His talents are amazing! Each actor was extremely professional and talented. The audience was engaged from the first moment. Loved it!

    The Drowsy Chaperone was outstanding!

by ManInAudience on 5/13/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Clay Aiken did a great job as Man in Chair. Having Beth Leavel in the role she won a Tony for on Broadway was an extra bonus. We saw the play on Broadway in 2006 and fell in love with the play. It was just as "fun" this time around in Raleigh. It does what a musical should, it takes you to another world and gives you a little tune to carry in your head for when your feeling blue

    Fantastic show!!!!

by Issabel on 5/13/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

This show far exceeded my expectations! The entire cast was outstanding. The biggest surprise for me was the fact that Clay Aiken is a phenomenal actor. His portrayal of the Man In Chair was totally believable!! This show is highly recommended, and iff you are looking a great laugh, this is a must see.

A musical comedy that was actually funny - quite a few lol moments. Clay Aiken was outstanding, in a role that ironically did not include any singing. He did a great job projecting age and experience, wistfulness and sadness, wonder and delight - all in both voice delivery and physical expression. He had all the best lines and his timing was impeccable. Ms. Leavel's part was surprisingly small, and had I not known her advertised importance I would have been surprised to see her taking the biggest bows with Aiken. Best supporting actor was Ms. Faure, playing Janet. Great voice, powerful, funny, just the right degree over the top. Best musical number by far was her first , "I don't want to show off". One distracting aspect of the production was lighting. Our seats were just about the middle of the theater and yet in many scenes the lighting was not bright enough to see all faces on the stage clearly. The spotlighting was spotty. Generally white, when some nuanced shades would have been better, and not well focused on the actor the spot was supposed to be following.

One of the best musical surprises of my life. It was just amazing with great music, humor costumes set designs and actors, Clay Aiken as the Man in Chair was astounding and a total surprise as to his acting ability. The character was totally believable he didn't sing at all, but it didn't matter. The show made me discover Beth Leavel and now I shall follow her the rest of my life!

The Drowsy Chaperone is anything but drowsy

by Hunter58 on 5/13/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

The Drowsy Chaperone is anything but drowsy! This was the third time I have seen this play and it seems to get better each time. It is a wonderful play with a great story, lots of fun and great set design. Clay Aiken was made to play the part of the Man in the Chair which is kind of like the narrator/lead character for this play. To make the play a success, this character must be fun and jovial with a great voice and ability to be animated when necessary. The play was great the first time I saw it several years ago, even better when I saw ECU present the play earlier this year and it absolutely rocked with Clay Aiken in the lead role. However, a play cannot survice on the basis of a single character and The Drwsy Chaperone does nto rely solely on Caly's skills. All of the cast were great. It's hard to imagine this play could get any more entertaining or more fun but I look forward to the challenge to see if the next theatre production can surpass this one. I am hooked on this play and will see it whenever and wherever I can.

The Drowsy Chaperone was an unexpected treasure!

by dottcom3 on 5/12/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I went to this show having no idea what this play was about. I have always attended plays where I already knew the story and how it would end. Honestly I only attended as I am a fan of Clay Aiken's so I bought tickets not really caring too much what this show was about. I had never even heard of this title. I purposely did not read up on it so that I would be surprised. And WOW I was SO pleasantly surprised! From the first minute to the last I was thoroughly entertained. This show was so funny! I started laughing about 30 seconds into the first act. Two hours flew right by. All the actors and actresses were phenominal! Great singing and great acting by the entire group. What a wonderfully comical story and plot. I loved the whole concept of the Man in Chair. Clay was hysterical in this role. His talents never cease to amaze me. The two lead actresses who played Janet and the chaperone were awesome! I highly recommend this show to anyone who has not seen it. It felt so good to just sit down and laugh for a couple of hours. This is by far the best Broadway show I have seen to date!! Thank you NCT for bringing us such great talent and all around great entertainment!
