About The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway

The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway sits across a highway from Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, right next to the Morrison Motor Car Museum (for those who love all things cars) and just a 20-minute drive northeast of sparkling downtown Charlotte. Like the speedway itself, The Dirt Track is referred to as America's Home for Racing. The clay oval track covers four-tenths of a mile and can seat close to 14,000 (usually highly enthusiastic) fans at capacity.

The Dirt Track proudly hosts a variety of rowdy events that thrill entertainment-seekers who like things loud, adrenaline-filled, and (of course) dirty. Notably, The Dirt Track hosts the Can-Am World Finals, a once-a-year championship event for World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars, World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models and Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds. The Dirt Track has also brought Monster Trucks and motorcycling stars from AMA Pro Flat Track to North Carolina with a championship Monster Truck spectacular gracing the track annually.

Lug Nut — with a shiny silver head shaped like, you guessed it, a lug nut and a suit of glimmering blue spandex — is the mascot for Charlotte Motor Speedway as well as The Dirt Track.

History of The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway

To the excitement of many of its regular attendees, Charlotte Motor Speedway announced it was building a complementary dirt track in 1999, and The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway was completed in May of the following year.

Auto-racing promoter H.A. Wheeler, who previously served as the president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway, collaborated with late promoter Earl Baltes on the track's design. Baltes was named the grand marshal for The Dirt Track's inaugural event. Greg Walter was promoted to executive vice president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway in October 2018 and oversees operations at The Dirt Track.

    It was something to do

It was an ok event, the monster truck drivers didn’t push there trucks very hard, it was kinda boring at times.

Fun event but concessions need improvement

by Loud Engine Fanatic on 8/22/23

Went to watch Monster Trucks with the family and had a good time. The track is decent as it doesn't seem to have a bad seat but my biggest gripe was how badly set up the concessions were. There were a handful of food vendors who offered ONLY food, no drinks. So if you get food you were then forced to go to yet another long line just to get something to wash it down. Worst of all is that there was only one place to get ANY type of drink. Which meant if you just wanted a water or a coke that is quite easy to order, you still have to stand in line with others who are ordering complicated mixed drinks. I missed about a half hour of the event because my kid was thirsty. The mobile carts didn't help because they didn't stock water in their inventory. So please have a little stand or a dedicated line for those just needing a simple refreshment.

Not a fan this year, disappointed.

by Not a fan this year, disappointed. on 8/22/23

Been coming for several years to this show. Have even sit through rain and enjoyed it but not this year. Seems like there was too many lower budget teams this time. It showed by first look in the pit party, on track performance was low as well as half the trucks couldn't even complete the race. I have raced and built race cars for 30 plus years. Please bring in more teams that can afford to keep their equipment up. I will always support and pull the private guy trying to do what they love but you still got to have more teams with the budget to complete the show. It seems to me at the end of the show they were trying to make up for poor performance during the first 3/4 of the event. Love monster trucks, love charlotte speedway, just disappointed this year. Maybe it will be better next time.

The Dirt track is a Great Venue. The Ticket buying rather sucks. To hard, to many things and more stupid apps.

I had a great time at the racetrack. I was amazed at how fast they went from one race to the next. Awesome experience, I will be back again. Charlotte Motor Speedway, Charlotte Dirt Track, and Z Max Drag Way are all Class A facilities

    Dirt race

by Sam on 11/7/22Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord

Experience was great I only had 3 small issues. 1. When picking my tickets i was given an option to not have children younger than 13 in our section but that was not the case. We had babies and 5 year olds who were not interested in racing jumping around. 2. No way out ...we left early 2 nights because getting out was a nightmare. 3. One coke or water was $5.00. Next time we bring our own. Otherwise we had a blast.

    World Finals

by Oz on 11/7/22Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord

Racing and over all show was great ! Not having to pay for parking awesome ! Selling only 4 day tickets was not cool, I can't attend all for days nor do I have the money for a 4 day ticket for 2 people. When you did sell 1 day tickets 2 days before the event, it was in the first 12 rows only. I like to sit up high where I don't get hit with a mouth full of dirt every lap. Please, please, please change this and go back to single ticket sales like you use too. Sincerely a die hard WOO fan.

    Too much downtime

by Mama Waldo on 10/11/22Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord

Our family of four enjoyed the monster truck stunts and racing, but there was way too much “down” time between stunts. They also started the event one HOUR past the start time. We were severely disappointed and beyond agitated with so much sitting around waiting for the events.

    Great night - Missed opportunities

by TicoLeMonde on 8/23/22Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord

The monster truck bash was a fun experience - what's not to like? Monster trucks, dirt, jumping, crashing. It could've been better from a preparation and production standpoint. The announcers had repeated microphone problems and the shrill of randomly interjected commentary distracted from the action on the track. Speaking of on the track, the trucks themselves looked great but the reliability of the vehicles and the talent of the drivers just simply isn't on par with those from Monster Jam events. Trucks break when you're putting this kind of stress on them, but the failure rate was so much higher than we see in other events. So was it a good night out with my kids? Of course. But they have a lot to learn from Monster Jam.

    Our Annual Family Outing

by Miranda M on 8/23/22Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord

We have gone to the back to school bash for years, and as my boys grow, it gets more exciting each year! We like to stay overnight at the Camping World Resort to tailgate and hang out even after the trucks have concluded. Never a dull moment and who doesn't love monster trucks?! ((WAY better than the in house arena trucks - on the dirt track they can do so much more!))

First timer at Charlotte Motor Speedway

by Hawaiian Ohana on 8/23/22Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord

Overall it was a wonderful experience, however we sat centered in on row2 section 401. We had a problem seeing directly in front of us because the trailer with the banner was there. And the banners to the stairs was blocking the view. Staff made the experience more enjoyable .

    Funevent with poor logistics

by Mrb on 8/23/22Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord

It appears they weren't prepared for the amou t of people for Monster trucks. Took over 45 minutes to get food. My kids wanted popcorn, I waited in line for 25 minutes to be told they ran out and some would be ready in 20 minutes. This all while the event was going on. Bought two sleeves of tickets, 1 for each kid, but everything took so long we left with a bunch of tickets. Overall we had fun, but they definitely need to work on their logistics.

    A full day of racing!

by RaceFan on 11/14/21Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord

Unlike attending a typical NASCAR race you get to see and experience much more than just the main feature race. You get practice, qualifying, heat races and main event for 3 classes of cars! A nice full day of racing!

    Changed Start Time

by BigD on 11/9/21Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord

In the 9th hour the start time for the racing changed for Saturday night. I live a couple hours away and didn’t know it updated until it was to late. I understand that things change but there was not an alert of the time changing. We missed several hours of the preliminary racing.

    Great Experience

by Boozer on 8/24/21Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord

This was a great and fun family experience. Even though it was wet and raining, the whole family had a great time. Riding on the Monster Trucks, watching the wrecks and flips and experiencing the whole Monster Truck racing on a dirt track with mud was truly awesome! Highly recommend to attend.

    Awesome monster truck show!

by James on 8/17/21Charlotte Motor Speedway - Concord

I went with a couple of friends, one of them being 4 and he loved it! That being said I think this is a show for all ages, it rained a lot but after a hour delay the show went on and it was definitely worth the wait. I hope we can go again next year, definitely a great value and show. Highly recommend! Don’t forget your ear plugs!
