The Cure show at the Beacon was excellent. 40-plus-song sets of some of the best music made in the past 30 years by one of the best live bands around today.
It was pretty amazing watching them evolve as they played their first three albums
A stellar show for longtime fans. The Cure played for over 3 hours - as promised, their first 3 albums in full, then b sides and other hits. Could not have been happier with the music. Seats were a little cramped. Getting tix was a pain - tried via internet immediately when they went on sale, but within a couple of minutes they were sold out. Not to be discouraged, I called the hotline and was able to secure 2 tix near the back row. Views were still great.
It started a bit late, but when they finally came on it was just amazing. Robert looked fantastic, and his voice was absolutely stunning. Much of the audience was not very into the performance, I think because many people didn't know that they were playing their first three albums and had expected them to play more hit songs, but I didn't pay anyone else much mind as I was so excited to finally be seeing The Cure live. The first set (Three Imaginary Boys) was a lot of fun, but it went by too fast. Simon was great on bass! He was so much fun to watch; he has amazing stage presence. The second set (Seventeen Seconds) felt slower, not rushed. They added Roger on keyboards, who played fantastically. They finally came to their third set, Faith, when they added Lol. It was breathtaking. Robert's voice, especially on the second half of the set, was so tender and heartfelt... It was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. They played three encores: The first was short 1979 songs like Boys Don't Cry and World War. The second, Robert talked about time travel (which was quite silly...) and they played Splintered in Her Head (in which Robert played the harmonica!), Charlotte Sometimes, and The Hanging Garden. Most people thought that would be it, but they came BACK on and played some lighthearted Japanese Whispers singles like The Walk and The Lovecats. They ended with Inbetween Days, because Simon requested they play it. All in all, they played for about three and a half hours. (Somewhere in there, a person rushed up on the stage and kissed Robert before being carried away by a security guard. It was kind of strange...)
after all these years the cure is still the most amazing band ever and the beacon theater was a great venue.
No opening band, just The Cure for almost 4 hours straight! I think they only took three 5-minute breaks the entire time. They did all three of their first 3 albums in their entirety and then did THREE encores (another 15 songs). We were right behind the sound guy, and could see that they ended the performance with their 48th song of the evening!! Robert Smith and the whole band sounded like they're still in their prime. Totally amazing experience!!
The Cure at the Beacon is what "rock music" should be. The stage was simple, no over the top sets/costumes. Robert Smith's voice was in top form, and his guitar work was fantastic- why isn't he on Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists list??? I have seen The Cure 4 times, once at the Ritz, which I thought was the best- until the show at the Beacon theater this past weekend.
Simply put, it was a perfect show. First of all, the Beacon Theater is a fantastic venue, great acoustics and not a single bad seat in the house. It was a great choice of venue. I had front row center upper balcony seats and it felt like I could reach out and touch Robert Smith (or at least see down his black shirt). This is only the 4th time I've seen the Cure live, but it was definitely the best show I've ever seen them perform. I'm really glad to have been able to see them in the Reflections tour, what a great concept for a show and a great experience for the fans.
The Beacon Theater is a great place for a concert, The sound is the best...
The concert was great! The first three albums in entirely with minimal break between albums and then awesome b-sides including my favorite song, Killing an Arab, which I had thought they might not perform due to it's un-PC title. Could have done without the drunken masses falling up and down the stairs but the Cure were awesome
What an amazing concept. Their first 3 albums live in their entirety. As if The Cure playing their first 3 albums (Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds & Faith) wasn't amazing enough, they played an encore set from the same period, that brought down the house. The sound in The Beacon Theatre in NY was incredible. I hope The Cure does this type of show again soon. (Maybe The Top, Head on the Door and Kiss Me-Kiss Me, will be next)? What a treat. Well worth every penny spent to see this performance even if you are not a Cure fan. If you are, it was something special. Thanks Robert for doing this show and taking the time to say hello outside prior to the show. Still in my opinion, the best live band ever. And I've seen many over the years.
I could have taken a nap at home for free! They sounded great but this was by far the most boring concert I have ever been to.
Went online as soon as the tickets went on sale for the Beacon Theater. Saw The Cure many years ago at Giants Stadium - Great show. After I bought, I found out the show was comprised of the playing of three esoteric albums - esoteric to the average fan, I'm guessing. Quite good, but most songs were not familiar to me...and many in the audience by the lack of singing along. For me, it was all "made well" with the three encores that held many of the hits I was hoping to hear. Overall, well worth the evening and The Cure did not disappoint.
Robert was perfect and seemed to be in a great mood, more talkative than usual, the show was perfection and the crowd enthusiastic.
The Cure have been around long enough to know how to put on a good show, but they only get better with age. Robert Smith is one of the strongest frontmen in music and commands the stage. The songs they played seemed timeless and reminded me of major milestones in my life. This was an outstanding show!!
We were all in a dream for a little over 3 hours! They have gotten better with age! They were always GREAT but now they are just FANTASTIC!!
Firstly, the venue was fantastic! Loved the Pantages theatre. Beautiful. The band came on about 40 minutes late. Then, they did not play so many of our favorites...this was disapointing.
The concert was amazing! Robert Smith delivered and outstanding performace.
The Cure rocks...more like Robert smith! He is an amazing performer and an amazing musician. The concert was great he played for a full 3hrs plus. He is truly amazing...everyone must go see him whenever possible. I highly recommend it.
3 hours + plus with two intermissions. GREAT encores and simple amazing!!!! The sound was absolutely perfect with an beautiful light show. I had the best time and truly experienced goosebumps and being transported to a great moment of my life! I had to ask the ushers to move people standing around in the aisles and sneaking into other seats. That was pretty annoying since they asked me for my ticket each time I went to get a drink.
