  • the cure killed it!

by jdoggydogg on 1/18/12the pantages - LARating: 5 out of 5

stripped down and bare bones, no fancy lights, no fluff. just three dukes on stage with some minimal gear that swelled to five by nights end. so very glad i went as i almost didn't. my highlight of 2011 for sure and was one of those events that the magnitude doesn't really sink in until days or weeks later.

I left after 3 hours of The cure Playing without knowing a song . I admit i am a just a fan of their 80's hits. Robert smith 2 hours and 45 minutes into the concert stated "we just playing our B side songs". Hey Robert you could have saved me some money had you told me that before you went on tour. I am a musician and could appreciate the B"Bide Material" they were playing -but after 3 hour of music i never heard before i walked out.

  • The cure WAS the cure!

by Lafferty on 12/7/11Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing experience. This is the best band live in concert. Was amazed at how tight the band was and remembered thinking how much work it must have taken to get this show together. Playing the first three of their albums in their entirety, it was a chance to revisit songs not played in decades. Highlighted songs were Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds and Faith which coincidentally are the names of the albums. After the albums were played, the band then went into a set of B-sides...a delight for the hard-core fan! Then into a set of all time favorites! After 31/2 hours it was time to go home. An amazing concert from an amazing band!

  • THE Cure Concert series of all time! PHENOMENAL

by CureCat on 12/2/11Beacon Theatre - New York CityRating: 5 out of 5

A show for real fans - not just the casual "Greatest Hits" fan. They even played Do the Hansa due to pre-show fan requests. This is a show that I have been waiting 30 years for. Have been a fan for 30 years - when only Boys Don't Cry and 17 Seconds were available in the USA, but missed the shows back then and this was a chance to finally see the early songs played to PERFECTION. Went the following night which was also excellent. As always, The Cure is worth every dollar, pound, euro, etc.. spent. Danced and sang so hard that I still don't have my voice left. As Robert commented to me after the last show "your voice sounds like the way I feel...." And did I say they played Do The Hansa?????? Woooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

  • The Cure is still great as ever

    by Kola7 on 12/2/11Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the show. It's obvious they have not lost their touch since the 80's. Especially, Robert Smith. I felt like I was 16 again listening to his voice. However, I did feel they could have played more of their popular tunes, which made them as famous and classic as they are today. I especially wanted to hear my favorite song, Close to Me, and was quite disappointed to walk out of there without having heard it live.

  • Most incredible show ever! The Cure rocked!!!

by AlbinoHawk on 11/30/11Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The Cure's Reflections concert was the most incredible show I have ever experienced! The energy and emotion was incomparable! They sounded great and played for over three hours, totally satisfying the true Cure fans! It brought back so many memories from my youth! The Beacon Theatre staff was so friendly and welcoming that it added to the amazing experience! As for the venue itself...beautiful and looking forward to travel back up there from Maryland again when another great show surfaces! Hats off to The Cure and the Beacon Theatre staff and renovators!

by rmcarroll on 11/30/11Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was structured to build in depth of sound. Three imaginary boys was played as a rather stark three piece. I don't see why Porl couldn't have been there on rhythm guitar. It would have allowed them to capitalize on the wonderful potential of many of those early songs. A keyboard was added for 17 seconds. It was played very adequately. An unexpected standout was Three. A second keyboard/percussionist was added for Faith. I don't think that a 5th person was really necessary for Faith but I guess they had to give Lol something to do. That said, Faith did sound best. Hearing some of those not oft played gems was fantastic, specifically Drowning Man, which was a stunner. They played singles that hadn't been released on the original Three Imaginary Boys and that was nice. Replacing the guitar hook of Jumping Someone Elses Train with the cheesy organ sound later used in Another Journey by Train, however, was ill-conceived. Oh well. Another well perforned single was Charlotte Sometimes. A B-side that really stood out was Splintered in Her Head; who knew? All in all, it was great. I would have liked a more thoughtful realization of Three Imaingary Boys but Faith was a knockout. I can't wait to see what they do next. Head on the Door, Kiss Me and Wish......Please.....

  • Long live The CURE!!!

by AlisaVM on 11/30/11Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The show was remarkable. From all 3 albums from when they first started. Robert Smith voice still sounds the same. Their presents on stage is deep, warm, and exuberant. I recommend every one to see the CURE atleast once in your life. It's an unforgettable experience you will never forget. The lighting on stage is perfect with the music and atmosphere.

Never been to the Beacon before. Simply gorgeous. It was an experience I will never forget. Robert is so amazing who just gets better and better. He came and tore it up for almost 4 hours w/o missing a beat. Breathtaking. Loved all three albums and all three encores. Exhausted and in pain I enjoyed every minute. Hope they come back soon. I will never miss a show and I was so happy I got to see this rare performance of the beginning albums. LOVE LOVE LOVE you and THANK YOU.

  • The Cure Reflections NYC - sorry you missed it

by MrAlphabetSays on 11/29/11Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

If you are someone who likes/loves The Cure and are even somewhat familiar with their earlier material - you will be sorry you missed this show. If ever there was a time when Robert was doing something special for the in-the -weeds cure fan, it was these shows. And he and the band did them with such passion, almost as if they had a new-found appreciation for the material. Maybe it was the exercise of remastering/repackaging these albums and the Join the Dots they have done over the past five or six years. Whatever it was, they were having a bloody good time and it made a great time even more contagious! Such an intimate setting with very specific material executed so sonically well, it's a shame for anyone who was on the fence about going and decided against it. For the fan who has been going to shows for years and always wondered 'their B-sides are as good as anyone else's A-sides; why don't they play them??', well they did and they were brilliant. You knew in advance what the setlist would be; you knew in advance how long they would play yet you still walked away in awe and amazement - THAT IS HOW GREAT this show and the others over the weekend were.
