About

The Cher Show is based on the life of Cherilyn Sarkisian La Piere Bono Allman or as her friends call her, Cher! The kid on a tricycle, vowing to be famous. The teenage phenom who crashes by twenty. The glam TV star who quits at the top. The would-be actress with an Oscar. The rock goddess with a hundred million records sold. The legend who’s done it all, still scared to walk on stage. The wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend. The woman, looking for love. The ultimate survivor, chasing her dream. They’re all here, dressed to kill, singing their asses off, telling it like it is. And they’re all the star of The Cher Show.

Featuring her beloved chart-topping hits, The Cher Show will feature a book by Rick Elice (Tony Award-winning best musical Jersey Boys), direction by Jason Moore (Tony Award-winning best musical Avenue Q), choreography by Tony Award-winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies), and orchestrations, arrangements and musical supervision by Tony Award-winner Daryl Waters (Memphis).

    Half Breed

by JAH433 on 7/11/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Some of this show was really great and some made you scratch your head. On the plus side are the three actresses that are Cher, the costumes, the sets and most of the music. On the negative side, too much story about the men in her life, the whole idea that this is a variety show and constantly changing high energy dance songs into ballads. Probably still 15-20 minutes too long.

    Entertaining version of Cher's career

The music was a blast from the past. The singing was superb. The story didn't have much nuance.

    Heartbreak Hotel was worth seeing!

by MerleDD on 7/11/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Loved the show. Great costumes and music. Not a huge fan of the Oriental Theater, though-a little too big and depending on where you sit, not a great view. I prefer a smaller theater. Also, very rude folks at the box office if you try to exchange your tickets.

    Needs work

by Burpsie on 7/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I went to see this with an open mind, I thought the songs would be more upbeat than they were, most of Cher's songs were sung as they were ballads's vs. the fast paced songs we are used to. I saw her in Las Vegas and she was fabulous. Stephanie Block was amazing and has a great voice the other 2 Cher's were ok. The dialogues were too long, those could use a lot of cutting before it hits Broadway. I heard from a friend of mine who heard that Cher saw it and said it needed a lot of work. The ending was by far the best not because of it being the end but the disco lights.

    Must see for Cher fans

by Carlimw on 7/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

As a CHER fan I can honestly say I was not disappointed. The actresses playing CHER did a fantastic job. Stephanie J Block was hilarious and all of them were great singers. I would say the only thing I would change would be is them trying to sound like Cher while they sang. You can tell they’re all really good singers but they tried adding her modulation a little too much. It makes sense when they’re speaking but singing it sounds a little off. I loved the way they used the songs in different ways and not necessarily in order of when they were released. The guys were also fantastic, especially the one playing Sonny. I liked the way they moved the story along, Cher has been through a lot and obviously not all of it would fit into the show so using the “production team” to skip over certain parts was really smart. And of course the costumes stole the show. Bob mackie did a fanatastic job and I loved the use of her actual costumes at certain points. I would highly recommend the show to anyone, but especially to Cher fans. Obviously it’s a preview so there could be some tweaks made, but it’s a fantastic show and was a lot of fun. Definitely considering making another trip to see it in New York once it goes to broadway.

Cher Show has all the feels

by SoChiKitty on 7/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I love theater and I love Cher, and this show takes both and creates an experience that's both familiar and new that had me so emotional and thrilled. I was a little kid from a Hispanic background in a town that was very Anglo in the 70s. Cher was dark haired and dark-eyed and olive skinned like my mother, and I thought they were they most beautiful women in existence. Cher's wit, talent, and attitude were inspirations to a young me. The songs in the show brought back vivid memories of listening to my 45s of Cher while playing with my Barbies and my Cher doll with her amazing dressing room and outfits. Those times were so happy. The performances of the three Chers are incredible. These women have obviously studied every nuance of Cher's body language and Cher's voice and their performances are genuine and heartfelt. The other actors have obviously worked just as hard to nail their roles. And the voice on the actress playing Georgia damn near gives the three Chers a run for their money! I could easily see the show several more times and find different things to fascinate me each time - I hope it does well so I can do just that!

    The Cher Show

by Seeingashow on 7/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The acting was sensational but the show does need work. Yet, it is hard to pin point what exactly. It seemed to drag in parts but just gloss over other areas of the performer's life. For example, I can't believe there was no mention to how Believe even came about. It is the biggest hit of her career. No backstory? Yet we have to watch a conversation with Lucille Ball? Again, loved the three ladies and the representation of all the costumes but it's not enough for me to recommend.

    Cher is Always Amazing!

by Anonymous on 7/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

You do not need to be a Cher fan to appreciate this musical. It was amazing! The three Cher performers did an unbelievable job. The entire story was entertaining and flowed really well. The actor who played Sonny was also amazing. Great music, wonderful performers and, oh, did I mention it's the story of Cher! What more do you need?

Cher - A Forgettable Stroll Down Memory Lane

by BKC524 on 7/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The Cher Show was so unpolished it was dull. The timing was off - particularly the banter among supporting cast members. The younger Chers were miscast and Cher, the Star, repeatedly fell out of character in the second half. The book was a jumbled mess, there was no chemistry between the leads, but the costumes were spectacular.

Completely encompassed who I think Cher is!

by Babeesh on 7/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Though I am only in my early twenties, I was raised listening to Cher’s music and watching her movies with my mom and I love everything about her! I have seen her in concert three times and still haven’t had enough, so naturally we had to go see The Cher Show when it hit our favorite city and my moms home town of Chicago! This show was witty, honest in her struggles through life and amongst herself shown through her three characters, and it incorporated her music in the perfect moments! We laughed, we sang along, and we left wanting to see it again and make plans to attend another Cher concert. If any part of you likes Cher, GO SEE THIS SHOW!

Needs Work - See it Anyway!

by AlistairBench on 7/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

This show struggles to reinvent the jukebox musical and more or less succeeds. It's a bit lengthy and the dancing needs some fine-tuning, but the voices are fantastic and you know the music will be. It may not become your favourite show, but you'll certainly be entertained.

    CHER show was very entertaining

by Cherred on 7/10/18Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I wasn't sure how they would pull off 3 Cher's sharing the stage at the same time but it was done perfectly!! I love how they touched on so many aspects of her life but didn't dwell on any one of them. Love it and would definitely recommend it to others.
