Emerald City Theatre's production of THE CAT IN THE HAT, based on the book by Dr. Seuss and adaptation by Katie Mitchell, is the perfect friend for a boring rainy afternoon. From games and mischief to Thing One and Thing Two, The Cat brings all sorts of trouble to this grey day— but will Sally and her brother be able to explain the mess to Mother? This Dr. Seuss classic leaps onto the stage with chaotic exuberance in this adaptation from the National Theatre in London.
My daughter and nephew just love the play. The adults did too. The fish was the best part. A must see if you love Dr Seuss.
It was delightful! My 41/2 year old grandson was fascinated from beginning to end. He treasures his autographs.
I really enjoyed the way in which the production stayed true to the story but at the same time made it a refreshing experience! The level of interaction was fun as well!
This was my granddaughters first experience in theater. She thoroughly enjoyed herself. She sat and watched happily.
Great show! Lots of energy and super kid friendly. Show lasted about an hour and was perfect for my 4 year old. It is probably helpful for kids to have some familiarity with the cat in the hat because the story moves pretty quickly. It follow the story from the book.
It was super cute, but definitely directed towards a younger audience. My friend and I brought a 9 year old and it was pretty childish for her but it was cute and well done. Perfect length for the little preschoolers in attendance. . I felt it was a bit pricy for what we got... considering the cost, I expected it to be a little more kid friendly for a wide range of ages rather than only for pre-schoolers.
CLEAVER AND FUN. It entertained my 3yr old as well as my 6yrold. Small theater so there are really no bad seats
I thought the play was very cute. It was very kid oriented. The staff was very friendly. My daughter loves The Cat In the Hat Book and this was her first play. She enjoyed it and participated at the end with the interactive pretend play. She is usually very shy, so we were very happy to see her get up and particpate.
Not a good value for the length of the show (30min), but it kept the kids involved
The play was engaging from beginning to end! In my opinion, the actor who played the Fish stole the show! His facial expressions displayed those that the puppet fish couldn't. It truly enhanced the performance. Humor was infused throughout which kept even the younger children interested (my granddaughter is 2). They included the audience by asking a few of them questions during the show, actors went out into the audience... It was true to the book and caused my granddaughter to run into the house asking, "Where's the 'Cat In The Hat' book"?! I look forward to more performances like this one. it was a true joy for us both.
My child and I had a great time. The cast was incredible and funny. Very engaging and friendly. I would definitely attend this show again, and recommend it to everyone I know.
I was extremely disappointed in the length of this show. Just 30 minutes. What a waste of time and money coming from the suburbs. They told one story and I thought they were taking an intermission to start the next story and low and behold...that was it.
I understand that a show geared for children needs to be able to keep their attention but a quick show was not worth the $32 I paid for each ticket. I stood longer in line with my daughter to meet the cast than the actual performance lasted.
It was an enjoyable show. My 4 year old was enthralled. The fish was really good very impressive. Not too long. Waiting at the end to meet the cast was a pain, a little badly organized with no order to the line. Would recommend it!
the theater is smaller and more intimate for a children's play. The actors ran around the theater and brought the show out to the audience. Also there was a nice interactive activity with the kids after the play.
Great for kids and adults. Funny and entertaining. Kept the kids interested and involved the whole time.
We loved this show! My daughter is almost 2 and loves the Cat in the Hat, and 2 days later, she's still talking about it!! I read a review about how it was only a half hour show and was concerned if that would be worth the price. A half hour was just the right amount of time before the little kids got too antsy and the show was entertaining the entire time. It was full of content and humor. Even the adults laughed out loud at some of the scenes. My favorite part was that they did autographs at the end. My daughter got her book signed by all of the characters and had a picture taken with the cat. She may be too little to remember actually going to the show, but the autographs and picture will be something for her to cherish. In addition to the excellent show, the venue was just as impressive. Parking was simple (and discounted with a validated ticket). When we arrived at the Broadway Playhouse, we were immediately greeted and directed to which door we would enter, where the restrooms and refreshments were, and shown the tables with coloring activities for the kids. I was impressed with how prepared and accommodating they were and I plan to go back to the same venue for another children's show in the future!
The play was done well but very short and simple for the $. Especially when you add downtown parking (and, although validated was available for $11, it wasn't advertised on the website so I didn't know). I expected a bit more. Good first theater experience for my 4 year old but I felt I spent a bit much on the day.
My husband and I found the play cute and true to the book but our four year old granddaughter didn't care for it at all. She said it was too loud and terrible. My interpretation is that she was too young and didn't understand the story or get the jokes. Oh well, that was a hundred dollars wasted!
The play was superb I am 22 and I was there with my wife on our honeymoon and it was really good. Talented actors and friendly amazing as well. Over all experience was great
