Directed by Ernie Nolan

Emerald City Theatre's production of THE CAT IN THE HAT, based on the book by Dr. Seuss and adaptation by Katie Mitchell, is the perfect friend for a boring rainy afternoon. This Dr. Seuss classic leaps onto the stage with chaotic exuberance in this adaptation from the National Theatre in London.

  • Go see The Cat in the Hat

My children were absolutely riveted during the entire performance. I took a three year old, and 21 month old twins, and not one of them made a peep. They've been talking about it ever since. What a well-worth-it trip it was for us!

Cat in the Hat is a fun (short!) show. My four year old thoroughly enjoyed it. The lead actor (the Cat) is excellent and makes the show a lot of fun.

EXCELLENT SHOW!!! My 4 yr old LOVED it!! Alot of interaction with the audience!! Fun for kids and adults! Would have liked it to be a little longer (only about 45 mins) but overall highly recommended!!

  • Great show for kids!

My 6 year old thoroughly enjoyed this production, as did my husband and I. The cast was great and generously all signed autographs and posed for photos afterwards. The production was funny and entertaining. We had a great time and highly recommend seeing this! We would have liked it to be a little longer, but the length was perfect for smaller children. We loved the interactive program immediately following the play, too. It all made for a very exciting event!

  • Good for kids, tough on the wallet

It was a good telling of Cat in the Hat, and 4 yr old loved it. It was expensive for a 35 min show!

  • Cat in the Hat was stupendous

I went twice with each of our four year old grandsons and would do it again. The acting was super for young children. Just long enough to keep their attention going.

I took my grandchildren to see the Cat in the Hat and they loved it. My 4 year old grandson was on the edge of his seat for the entire performance. Very well done, fun and interactive. I would recommend to everyone. One of the best childrens theater experiences we've had.

Perfect length for a 6 year old. The actors were great at including the crowd, especially the youth. We loved the person who played the fish!

THe show was very up and funny and stuck to the story. It was just enough time for kids and connect to the story that they read. Good performance

  • Short and engaging!

by cheribb on 7/29/13Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Only about 40 minutes. I went with 3 and 6 year old grandkids. Both knew the story and were entertained by the performance. I have not seen anything this company does for sir children that I haven't liked.

  • Cat in the Hat was a true joy!

by GrandmaKa on 7/28/13Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Our 2 grandsons sat spellbound and Grandpa, who's NOT a theatre-goer, actually enjoyed it, too. I couldn't get over the amazing job the fellow who played the fish did. He stole the show as far as I was concerned. That's truly great acting whether it's children's theatre or adult theatre. Acting is acting and he did a FABULOUS job; I expect to see him on Broadway at some point in time! All was great; we thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for putting this play together. Amazing job!

  • Great Show! My kids loved it.

by ktcmom on 7/28/13Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

We had a great time! All three of my kids (7, 5, and 2) enjoyed it. My two year old even took interest and watched the show. The only disappointment was that the show was only 45 min in length; I was expecting at least one hour. But they had a meet and greet which my kids lied as well.

  • Cat in the Hat -- Chicago

by Kittiee on 7/26/13Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I took my four almost five year old grandson to see the show and he just loved it. Not too long, not too short, cast was very interactive with audience which kept a young child's interest, as that can be a challenge. He also really enjoyed getting cast autographs after the show and taking pictures with them, especially fish and cat in the hat. We had a wonderful time and topped it off with lunch at Rain Forest Café. His home is in Georgia making it extra special

  • Wonderful Performance

I took my 3 yr old daughter to see the show. She really enjoyed it and was engaged from beginning to end. TH show lasts for 30 minutes and is a fairly literal translation of the book. Two tickets ran over $80, plus add another $12 for parking. If you can afford it, it is a nice treat to indulge in with your kids.
