  • Outrageous, but a lot of fun!

by Gnik on 9/10/12Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Book of Mormon was a lot of fun, in spite of the controversial topics and acts. One problem for me, as a senior with hearing problems: even with good hearing aids, the voices of most of the female actors were impossible to understand. This detracted from the overall experience. The only things I could really understand easily were the singing and speech of the two main male actors.

It was shockingly vulgar and brilliantly poignant.

  • Great piece of art with great piece of message

Some have said that The Book of Mormon is an even-handed depiction of Mormonism and doesn't portray them in any unbalanced way. Not true in my view. It comes down heavy on Mormonism and for good reason. There is no way to remain balanced with an unbalanced religion or with any organized religion for that matter. With any intelligence, it is hard to be sympathetic to the message of any organized religion, least of all Mormonism because it had the advantage of studying other religions and yet came to be the same irrational, human rights suppressing, anti-science, women-suppressing, extremely organized from top-down religion that others were. In fact, they are the most organized. To me, religion is fundamentally disjoint from organization. Religion is pursuit of freedom and organization is all about control. And this play is intelligent. It doesn't loose art, the humor, the presentation in anyway while delivering a staunch criticism of irrationality of this so-called religion. Throughout the play, we get to understand how backward-looking power trip this Mormon organization is, in many ways very similar to the worst parts of radical Islam. And the play does it all through unforgettable music and performance by an amazing cast and technical perfection. I hear that Mormons have tried to put a brave face taking the play in their stride, even placing Mormon ads in the playbill. But there is no way out. The creators have not left an inch for them to move. But they have been humorous. Throughout the play I wondered how they would end it without losing that aspect but they found a brilliant way while still bringing out the irrationality in the most stinging way. Very recommended.

  • The book of Mormon is brilliant.

This show is once in a lifetime. It's hilarious, offensive, brilliant and I wanted to get up and dance during every song. The tour actors are just as great at the original broadway cast and I cannot wait to see it again, and again. Top notch. Grade A. Perfect.

  • Book of Mormon - terrific dancing, good voices

by jmgwag on 9/10/12Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

Very funny premise. Language a bit much. The story line could have been gotten across with less bad language. The scene with the extended body parts was a too much. It diminished the humor. We attended the performance with the scenery malfunction and the cast recovered amazingly well. They really were in "the moment". It is fun show but frankly, the price was exorbitant. We were miffed at all the people that got in for $25.00 when we paid $97. per ticket. Especially, when they were seated late interrupting the show for full paying guests.

Completely entertaining. Name it: the music, the LYRICS, the staging, the choreography, the set, the lighting, the actors. Non-stop fun! When it was over, we wanted to stay in our seats for the next performance. We've NEVER been so completely entertained. Enjoy!

  • Must See

by Anonymous on 9/10/12Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

It was an excellent production. The humor about the religion is "all in fun" does NOT disrespect the Mormons or is mean about their customs

  • Fantastic energy on display!

    by Mds63 on 9/10/12Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

A great show, definitely not for children!!! Funny and irreverent, pretty much what you'd expect from the creators of "South Park"!

  • A Tale Told Like No Other

    by Monchito143 on 9/10/12Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

We were expecting irreverant and we got it...true to South Park color and form the characters came to life. The choreographing was excellent and the dancing reminded me of good lod fashioned stage musicals of years gone by. It was good to see something light and funny in all the doom and gloom that is presented to us in cinema dn on stage these days.

Absolutely amazing! Attended with my sister who had been obsessed with the soundtrack when it was released, absolutely measured up to the hype and fantastic Broadway original recording.
