I am utterly amazed at how much professional performers have to give; and the cast in BoM made me feel as if they were performing just for me. There were astonishing solo moments, but it's an ensemble show and the ensemble is uniformly good, at times terrific. While the language is often profane, at times gratuitously so, it's also funny, clever, and intelligent. The book has something to say and it says it with style, warmth, and humor. I also felt like the writers of the show respect musical theater history and that this show was a little like a love song, a tribute to it. It's not this big self-conscious egotistical statement about being cool; it's about being good. I'm not a Mormon, but I don't happen to feel that this show laughed at them as much as it invited us to laugh with them, and the enormous amount of faith required to subscribe to almost any religion. It was a wonderful evening that I will recall often.
