THE B-52S IN CONCERT:

Since forming in 1976, The B-52s have always stood out for their thrift-store chic style and ability to craft catchy, retro-inspired hits. Over the years they might have let their beehives down, but every-thing else about the band is still as tight as it was 30 years ago. Their call-and-response choruses always get fans singing along, and their fun and funky grooves will have you dancing right along with the band. The B-52s are taking their party atmosphere to select cities across the U.S. on their 2015 tour, bringing all their cool style and flamboyant fun to a town near you.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Named after a particular type of beehive hairdo, The B-52s rocketed out of Athens, Georgia in the late ’70s. Starting with their smash hit “Rock Lobster”, the band developed a reputation for campy fun and catchy melodies that carried over to other favorites like “Planet Claire” and “Private Idaho”. By the end of the decade, the band achieved a major mainstream radio breakthrough with the hits “Love Shack” and “Roam”. The band stayed relevant into the ’90s, appearing in The Flintstones live action movie (as “The BC-52’s”) and performing the theme song from the Nickelodeon cartoon Rocko’s Modern Life. Almost 40 years later, this zany garage band is still having a blast -- and still sounds like a blast from the past.

  • The B52s were tremendous!

by melsite on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

We attended the B52s concert at the O.C. Fair last night and it was tremendous. The setting was great. There is nothing like an outdoor venue and a concert under the stars. The crowd was pumped and in a party mood...even though we had spent the day at the fair in 90+ degree weather. The B52's were great. Kate and Cindy sounded as good as ever. Their vocals were very strong. Fred was a little hard to hear at times, but he still has that unique voice that identifies the B52s. The band is actually better live than on CD. There is a power and drive in the music that doesn't seem to come through on their albums. The songs are powerful, hard driving dance tunes played at a blistering pace. Every song was terrific!

  • Simply Amazing

by stef2356 on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

We had never seen the B-52s alive and we were NOT disappointing. Everybody around us was dancing including ourselves. The 80's MTV videos did not do them justice the way seeing them alive does. Their new songs especially Love in the year 3000 were electric. "Love Shack" and "Rock Lobster" still had the juice that delivered. And how do they all look so young after all these years? And the rock goddess on the bass was impressive as well. I want to be tall like her in my next life. Would definitely see them again. I just wish the concert could have been longer...

  • Great show!

I wasn't sure what to expect since the B52's have released a new album. I was afraid it was going to be all new songs with a few old songs. I was wrong, they played all of the crowd favorites. Vocals and music were great. Costumes were great. Everyone had an amazing time!

The moment the band played you knew it was going to be a good night, than you heard those oh so distinctive voices! I kept thinking wow it's like they never left us they were spot on. What high energy I thoroughly enjoyed being sent back to days when we rocked the lobster in the love shacks!

Still high energy, sing-along fun. If you get the chance, go see the B-52's. I took my daughters and they had a blast. Pacific Amp is a great place. The fair grounds are sooo clean. Great first concert experiences for my girls.

It's been awhile since I'd seen the B52's in concert and I was really looking foward to seeing them again! they didn't disappoint ! at least not me.. I loved being with a bunch of people who sang the songs with the band like I did! I'm surprised I didn't lose my voice from all the singing! I loved seeing people from ALL age groups attending and loved seeing some kids with there parents attending.. It was so much fun. Just like the crowd we all have favorite songs we want to hear.. mine is " Dance this mess around".. I would have gone nuts had they played it.. As for what they did play we loved it. Fred,Cindy& Kate their voices were amazing! still strong and had me dancing the whole show.. the band ! they rocked it hard.

  • Super Concert!!

by Clairey on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

The B-52s were amazing!! Their voices are so clear and strong. This is one band that will never lip sync because it's clear from the start that they are REAL SINGERS. They sound just as good as they did in the 80's if not better. On top of that, just such a fun party atmosphere. They saved "Rock Lobster" for last and brought the house down. What a fun night they gave us!

  • It was a party

by b0bby on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

Simple, good, fun party music. Everyone stands and dances the whole time even in the back. Everyone enjoyed themselves.

it was a great show. the 88 opened, early at 7:20, which was a nice surprise and played a 30 minute set. the b52's played a soild 1 hour 20 minute set and left on a high note. they played all great favorites and left you completely satisfied.

  • The B-52's ROCK!

by Charmy on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

We've seen them twice before, and they just get better and better. Lots of energy, a great beat, and fantastic music as usual. The only negative thing is that it was too short!
