THE B-52S IN CONCERT:
Since forming in 1976, The B-52s have always stood out for their thrift-store chic style and ability to craft catchy, retro-inspired hits. Over the years they might have let their beehives down, but every-thing else about the band is still as tight as it was 30 years ago. Their call-and-response choruses always get fans singing along, and their fun and funky grooves will have you dancing right along with the band. The B-52s are taking their party atmosphere to select cities across the U.S. on their 2015 tour, bringing all their cool style and flamboyant fun to a town near you.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Named after a particular type of beehive hairdo, The B-52s rocketed out of Athens, Georgia in the late ’70s. Starting with their smash hit “Rock Lobster”, the band developed a reputation for campy fun and catchy melodies that carried over to other favorites like “Planet Claire” and “Private Idaho”. By the end of the decade, the band achieved a major mainstream radio breakthrough with the hits “Love Shack” and “Roam”. The band stayed relevant into the ’90s, appearing in The Flintstones live action movie (as “The BC-52’s”) and performing the theme song from the Nickelodeon cartoon Rocko’s Modern Life. Almost 40 years later, this zany garage band is still having a blast -- and still sounds like a blast from the past.
Wonderful concert! Great music and talent! I don’t know if Fred Schneider wasn’t feeling well? He left the stage for a bit and was in the background with the tambourine. I hope he is doing well!?
Great gig - the band were excellent. Great view at the venue. Astronomically priced drinks ruin the experience.
Such an iconic band. They still have it! They had everyone up, out of their seats, singing and dancing along to every one of their best songs. One of the most upbeat, happy bands out there.
The B-52s are great. I know they have been performing and touring for 45 years now (wow) and want to be understanding of their longevity, but paying $200 each for two tickets for a show that barely lasted 90 minutes left me disappointed and wanting more. Also, I was missing a lot of tunes from Cosmic Thing and Good Stuff which were very popular during my college years. The set list seemed to focus on their earlier works. I might head back to Las Vegas to see them one last time before they hang it up, but I would have to see a set list that included a lot more titles from Cosmic Thing and Good Stuff which I consider their best works.
The concert was great. They sounded just like you remember. I wish it had been a bit longer by another song or two. Quiche Lorraine possibly? The opening DJ was very good too.
Fabulous and hope to be going that same pace when I'm their age...big kudos to them!! So nostalgic and fun! And, while DJ Cumberbund is cool, perhaps shorten his intro and have him introduce the band before he leaves the stage...there was too much of a lag in energy between him and the band actually taking the stage.
It was so great to see the B-52‘s again. The best party band in the world. It was a great time and their band was super hot. I recognized Sterling Campbell on drums from his time w/ David Bowie - Bonus! The setlist was fire! And the venue was beautiful.
What a great time! Just FUN FUN FUN!! Cindy and Kate - OMG the vocals are strong and beautiful and FRED is FRED. As only FRED can be. Went for a girls' weekend, and had a fantastic time at The Venetian and the B-52's are OUTSTANDING. Really - just so much FUN! My neck is a little sore from bouncing. :) Highly recommend!! The show was a fantastic, high-energy explosion! They are STILL amazing! But the set list (13 songs) was three songs shorter than their earlier performances at The Venetian. It would have been so great to hear Good Stuff and Funplex. Also, though I know some people loved it, the opening, 30-minute audio-visual mashup by DJ Cummerbund was a disjointed, disconnected, tortuous affair. With it all being pre-recorded, his faux DJ performance was weak and lacked the professional sensibilities that should have preceeded an act like The B52s.
The B52s were a blast!!! Re-lived some of our youth!!! Check 'em out!!!
