THE B-52S IN CONCERT:

Since forming in 1976, The B-52s have always stood out for their thrift-store chic style and ability to craft catchy, retro-inspired hits. Over the years they might have let their beehives down, but every-thing else about the band is still as tight as it was 30 years ago. Their call-and-response choruses always get fans singing along, and their fun and funky grooves will have you dancing right along with the band. The B-52s are taking their party atmosphere to select cities across the U.S. on their 2015 tour, bringing all their cool style and flamboyant fun to a town near you.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Named after a particular type of beehive hairdo, The B-52s rocketed out of Athens, Georgia in the late ’70s. Starting with their smash hit “Rock Lobster”, the band developed a reputation for campy fun and catchy melodies that carried over to other favorites like “Planet Claire” and “Private Idaho”. By the end of the decade, the band achieved a major mainstream radio breakthrough with the hits “Love Shack” and “Roam”. The band stayed relevant into the ’90s, appearing in The Flintstones live action movie (as “The BC-52’s”) and performing the theme song from the Nickelodeon cartoon Rocko’s Modern Life. Almost 40 years later, this zany garage band is still having a blast -- and still sounds like a blast from the past.

  • Let's dance this mess around!

by AJVIKING on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

Just a plain good time dance fest with nothing but fun. What wasn't fun was the fact that although I purchased tickets in APRIL, I noticed better seats on line still available days before the concert. When one purchases tix through ticketmaster on line they state "best available". Hogwash. And because I took my 12 year old daughter and 2 of her friends they couldn't see because of the adults standing, which is why I tried to get seats in the 1st row of any section. Ticketmaster is a rip-off charging convienence fees for each ticket besides not always providing "best available". It's a monopoly that needs to be gotten rid of or changed.

  • B-52 was the bomber

by OB1KenOB on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

They played a bunch of their old songs which brought back the nostalgia of the good ol days. It was a short concert so I would have like to hear more of their popular hits from cosmic thing. Overall had a good time with all their upbeat fun songs. Crowd was into it also lots of dancing in the ailes.

  • B-52's @ Pacific Ampitheatre in Costa Mesa 7/19/09

by Bkiefer on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

The b-52's played and sang great. The show was very streamlined and organized. Everyone seemed to be up for the concert. It was great to see Cindy back in the band. Her and Kate have great harmonies on their songs. They tried out what seemed to be new material in the beginning which was well received. Most of the audience stood thoughout the concert. Some songs made you wonder why they would choose them when they had lot's good songs to choose from. For example, they sang "Mesopotamia", never really a great song, over let's say "Channel Z" which is a better concert song. Also the bass kept getting louder and louder during the concert, where it felt like someone was thumping you in the chest continually. Not a good feeling for the mostly middle aged crowd. Other than that, it was a terrific show, it was great to see them again.

  • Pretty Good...

by JFade97 on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 3 out of 5

I've seen B-52's many times & always its a great, high energy show. Like a funky, dance-filled house party! Unfortunately, a little disappointed with last night's show. Not sure if they are just slowing down a bit - which is understandable - or tired out from their Vegas show the night before. They were just there - didn't really seem to be enjoying themselves. I was down in the pit so I had a prime view of the whole band. Fred had basically no interaction w/the crowd & just sort of stood there most of the show. He usually goes, goes, goes! The girls were pretty good. But it was definitely not the B-52's I'm used to seeing. But it was ok; still a good time overall. And not sure if it was the sound guy's fault or what, but down in center pit area, we could hardly hear the vocals. The band sounded great but the vocal hardly coming thru at all. Bummer.

  • B-52's Dance Party! Excellent!

by JumpnJack on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

Great show! The B-52's haven't lost the sound or the energy. The crowd danced the whole time - and sang along with all the old favorites & several from the new album. The show could have been a little longer - over all it was just right.

  • The B-52s still got it! Amazing energetic show

by hbassey on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

They were so energetic the whole time and Cindy and Kate still sound exactly the same! Fred put on a wacky hair wig at one point in the show and told the audience a story about how you should never take pill and go to JoAnn's fabrics

  • B-52's

by Mc2zap on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

The B-52's were hot. It's amazing how great they still are after all these years. Great sets and the crowd was great as well. My only regret was that they didn't play long enough. Just a little over and hour.

  • B-52s soared to a new HIGH

by Univac on 7/20/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

From the first note of their new fave "Pump" it was a night to remember at the OC Fair. The crowd was really into the vibe too. An older demograph then I expected, but they wanted to groove just the same. The B-52 girls were out in force with some wicked hair and crazy dresses. It was a bit odd to see the entire venue sing and sway to the beat of "Love Shack" and "Rocklobster" when you consider the age difference of fans. I was surprised they didn't play anything from the "Whammy" album. My only diss...
