THE B-52S IN CONCERT:

Since forming in 1976, The B-52s have always stood out for their thrift-store chic style and ability to craft catchy, retro-inspired hits. Over the years they might have let their beehives down, but every-thing else about the band is still as tight as it was 30 years ago. Their call-and-response choruses always get fans singing along, and their fun and funky grooves will have you dancing right along with the band. The B-52s are taking their party atmosphere to select cities across the U.S. on their 2015 tour, bringing all their cool style and flamboyant fun to a town near you.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Named after a particular type of beehive hairdo, The B-52s rocketed out of Athens, Georgia in the late ’70s. Starting with their smash hit “Rock Lobster”, the band developed a reputation for campy fun and catchy melodies that carried over to other favorites like “Planet Claire” and “Private Idaho”. By the end of the decade, the band achieved a major mainstream radio breakthrough with the hits “Love Shack” and “Roam”. The band stayed relevant into the ’90s, appearing in The Flintstones live action movie (as “The BC-52’s”) and performing the theme song from the Nickelodeon cartoon Rocko’s Modern Life. Almost 40 years later, this zany garage band is still having a blast -- and still sounds like a blast from the past.

  • B-52s Soar!

by lazybone on 7/21/09Caesars Palace - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Saw the B-52s at the Pure Niteclub located in Caesar's Palace last Saturday nite. Great show. I was only a few feet from the stage. Fred wore a Vegas shirt he said he bought for only $9 at a near-by gift shop. Below's the set list: 1. Pump (Good song from the new album) 2. Mesopotamina (played in honor of Vegas desert.) 3. Private Idaho (Best song of night IMHO) 4. Give me back my man (Cool Xylophone or whatever played by Fred) 5. Funplex ("Here's your &%@#$ 7up?") 6. Roam (Great) 7. Love in the Year 3000 (new album - pretty good) 8. Strobe Light (another highlight) 9. Hot Corner (fun song) 10. Love Shack (extended guitar jam) 11. Planet Claire ("... your vegas strip?)" 12. Red Lobster (what a guitar intro by Keith)

  • B-52's Rocked Pacific Amphitheater !!!

by MichaelBPlanetX on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

I've been going to see the B-52's regularly since their very early years and I can definately say this was one of my favorite all time shows. The band always puts on an amazing show from start to finish. Non-stop dancing fun! Of all the outdoor venues to see the Bs - this is the best! Always a fun crowd, too!

What can I say? All that I really wanted to hear was "Love Shack", Planet Claire" and "Rock Lobster". I wasn't disappointed. "Love Shack" was their last song on their regular set. Their encore included "Planet Claire" followed immediatly by "Rock Lobster". In such an intimate confines as the Pacific Amphitheatre they sounded and looked great. Well worth the minimal fee that I paid for admission, plus I got free admission to the fair, Woo-hoo! Good times...

  • B-52's - SO FUN!

by RuthBG on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was so fun. The entire venue was filled with smiling, dancing people. The "backup" band - THE 88's were great too. The B-52's look great and sound like their albums. The bass player was perfect for the group, as was the drummer and keyboardist. Go see 'um, and visit Planet Claire!

  • B-52s is fun at the Funplex!!

by babyboo on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was amazing. A must see for everyone. I love that my daughter loves the B-52s and that she is now into music that my husband I were into in high school (by the way quite some time ago). We all enjoyed the show.

  • Great nostalgia mixed with fun new songs!!

We couldn't have had a better experience. I want to go out and buy their new album.

  • B52s are back in a big way!

by ownedbyfred on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

The B52s blew the doors off that place! An audience of ALL AGES were on their feet dancing the whole time. These guys know how to put on a REAL show, not a paint-by-numbers show, their personalities are too great for that. I am an old fan, but have found a new love and respect for the band, the new songs sounded amazing and they did a crazed version of "Party Out of Bounds" which blew me away.

  • Awesome band! Set too short :(

by Nansk on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

Best party band ever! They sounded amazing, but the concert was too short!!

  • B-52s still have it after all the years!!!

by Boberto on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

I was concerned when they first started their set because I did not recognize the first two songs and I didn't feel the vibe. However, once they got warmed up and banged out their more popular tunes I felt that the concert was definitely worth attending.

by KiDo on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

Took me back to the 80's. I've never seen the B's before but they ROCKED. And I'm sure everyone agreed because the entire place never sat down the whole hour & a half...........

  • B52's ROCK !!!

by LCHSgirl on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

This is one of the best groups to see live !! No one sits......the entire concert is spent dancing and singing with everyone else around you......so much fun !! I even took my 15 and 12 year old, and both enjoyed the fun !!!!

  • B-52's amazing again!

by DukeoDebauchery on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

Not the first time i have seen the B-52's during the fair. great show each and everytime. the band is amazing. the crowd is great. the venue, well there is not a bad seat in the house but everyone should try to get section 6 behind the sound guy. awsome seats, great show i'll see them again.

  • B-52's always a party!

by Norskie on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

It isn't summer until you see the B-52's live! As always the group sounded great and the band was tight. I was sitting in the pit where I could see the band up close. Kate Pierson's keyboard was not working and the stage hand could not fix it for whatever reason. So Kate used to voice to fill in the keyboard sounds. She is amazing.......

  • B-52s Rocks

by Kitten16 on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 3 out of 5

I enjoyed the B-52s, the concert crowd and venue. The downside was the security staff and that they only opened one entrance to the concert. They had all of the isles chained but would let some people enter then make others walk all the way around even if they were sitting a row down. Crazy and that kind of agitated me....We were sitting in the orchestra section 1 so not trying to enter where we were not supposed to. Once the B-52's started rockin I forgot all about the nasty security idiots........and no I was not drinking...........Very fun night in spite of how it started!!!

  • The B-52s are back and better than ever

by HollywoodBizkits on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

I've been a huge fan since the first album and have seen the B-52s live over the years. Last night's performane was sublime fun--plenty of vintage B's plus a great sampling of the new material on FUNPLEX. Only regret: nothing from Whammy, Bouncing Off the Satellites or Good Stuff. But with so much great material to choose from, totally understandable.

  • Great Concert

by chrsfrmr on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

I was so impressed with the B-52's. They sound exactly like they do on CD. The two women were especially great! The arena itself is pleasent enough, but some of the crowd was partaking in not so good behavior.

  • B-52'S ROCK!!!

This was my 3rd time seeing the B-52's & they seem to get better & better!!! So much fun for all ages!!!
