THE B-52S IN CONCERT:

Since forming in 1976, The B-52s have always stood out for their thrift-store chic style and ability to craft catchy, retro-inspired hits. Over the years they might have let their beehives down, but every-thing else about the band is still as tight as it was 30 years ago. Their call-and-response choruses always get fans singing along, and their fun and funky grooves will have you dancing right along with the band. The B-52s are taking their party atmosphere to select cities across the U.S. on their 2015 tour, bringing all their cool style and flamboyant fun to a town near you.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Named after a particular type of beehive hairdo, The B-52s rocketed out of Athens, Georgia in the late ’70s. Starting with their smash hit “Rock Lobster”, the band developed a reputation for campy fun and catchy melodies that carried over to other favorites like “Planet Claire” and “Private Idaho”. By the end of the decade, the band achieved a major mainstream radio breakthrough with the hits “Love Shack” and “Roam”. The band stayed relevant into the ’90s, appearing in The Flintstones live action movie (as “The BC-52’s”) and performing the theme song from the Nickelodeon cartoon Rocko’s Modern Life. Almost 40 years later, this zany garage band is still having a blast -- and still sounds like a blast from the past.

  • B-52's, solid entertainment!

by GinaM on 7/30/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Going to their performance at the Del Mar Fairgrounds was the best time I have had in many years. I would go again and can't wait for another chance to see this fabulous group. Wow!!! I flew in from Crescent City, CA from as far north in California to as far south as you can go. It was worth the trip and made the visit to see my family way better than it would have been otherwise.

  • Glad I got to see them!

by Manacoocoo on 7/28/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 4 out of 5

My husband and I took our 10 year old daughter to go see them and we all had a great time. The B52's have always been one of my favorite bands and now I finally got to see them and have my daughter experience their music live (she loved it too.) They still sound great and were very playful. We went on the day Michael Jackson passed-away and they dedicated their show to him.

  • The B52s were Magneficent

by Supervee on 7/27/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

The B52s played most of the crowd favorites. I believe they played at least 10 songs from the Time Capsule album and about 4 from there newest album Funplex. There music is upbeat party dance music and it's clean. At their concerts, their fans only sing out load 3 or 4 of their songs. The rest we ad lib so we can hear The B52s and they sound as good as their albums. They also dance around and carry on the stage as well. The whole atmosphere is a great experience. This the 4th time I've seen them. I've enjoyed seeing them each time very much.

  • B-52's Rock the Zoo

by MusicAnimalLuvr on 7/25/09Oregon Zoo - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

They are so great LIVE that hearing them sing and play more than made up for (1) 30 minutes of driving around and around looking for an open parking space, and (2) the wet drippy weather, which finally did let up once they got to rocking onstage. From their tight musicianship (how many different guitars do they use?), to the wonderfully clear, strong and always spot-on singing, to their fun-unique sound and style, the B-52's are the embodiment of professionalism. My 12 year-old son became an instant fan, and my point was made that great music is great no matter when it's made.

  • B-52's, fun!

by ZoSo59 on 7/25/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

Good show, vocals by Kate and Cindy were awesome, just love them! Would have liked the sound monitors set so that the guitar sound came through more clearly.

The B-52s is always a good show. Everyone's getting a bit older (me included), but they still rock the house!

the house rocked and bopped! PLEASE KEEP COMIN BACK B-52'S!

  • The B-52s rocked me down to the Jellybone!

by landho7 on 7/24/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

The band dove right in with “Pump,” and moved through the setlist with few interjections from the band members. The entire show lasted little more than an hour, but the B-52s packed a lot of punch into that short time. The band’s energy made it impossible to not want to do the Shu-ga-loo or the Shy Tuna. Even viewing them from the terrace left me in a full swoon the entire time they were playing. With an explosion of vocals, keyboards, guitars, drums, and hot pants, getting caught in the splendor was inevitable.

  • B-52's still have it.

by NotGwen on 7/22/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

Great concert! They were fun, quirky and sounded great. We had the chance to hear all the old favorites and have a few laughs as well. They looked great as well. They are true professionals.

  • Great!

by Duty on 7/22/09Oregon Zoo - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

The B-52s rocked it out at the Oregon Zoo. And I was excited by the bonus opening act of The 88! If it hadn't been the worst rain in the history of summers in Oregon I would probably have given the show a higher rating, but I was cold and wet which made me give it four out of five (umbrellas made it difficult to see what was going on). It was definitely a quality show.

  • Great Fun

by wingman310 on 7/22/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

This was the first time that I had ever seen the B-52s in concert, didn't know what to expect. It was awesome! It was more than a concert, it was a show. The group and the audience played off of each other like they were old friends. Everyone was singing, dancing, cheering and having a great time.

  • B-52's still know how to make me dance!!!

by Spinking on 7/22/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen the B-52's over 20X in my life and they NEVER get old. Their music MAKES you want to dance and this most recent show at the Boston House of Blues was awesome as usual. I brought/introduced my GF to my favorite band at this show and she thought they were great and totally appreciated even the songs she did not know!! Keep having fun guys/girls and keep touring so we can keep dancing!!!!!!

  • B-52's are fun, fun, fun!!

by Veebunny on 7/22/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

The girls still have their pipes! Fred is... well, Fred! The energy is great. I am so happy I bought the tickets and took friends because everyone of them smiled and sang and danced until they turned the lights on. Great times at the fair. The set was a little short, but I guess better a great short show, than a so-so long one.

  • The B-52's still have it in them!

by tbirdlove on 7/22/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

I was amazed by Cindy's vocals strengths and completely blown away by Kate's performance during Planet Claire! I've been a fan for many years but hadn't seen them live until now. I had hoped for some earlier stuff but not disappointed. Be sure to catch one of their shows.

  • The B52s Rock! They Rock, Rock, Rock the Lobster!

by leahciM on 7/22/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

It was so great to see them again! Hadnt seen them since early eighties. They still sound and look great! Very exciting!

  • B-52's Amazing

This was the first time I had seen them live...they were amazing.

  • They were Awesome

by Marty23 on 7/22/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed it. This was my 10 year old son's 1st concert and he loved it. It was his birthday present and enjoyed every minute of it.

  • B-52s didn't play long enough!

by alohamagicchel on 7/21/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

I didn't really care for the opening band, The 88. The b-52s set was too short. They didn't even play Channel Z. I did like the rest of the set which included Roam, Rock Lobster, Love Shack.
