    The Barber of Seville

by LMH917 on 5/2/14Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

This opera was delightful. I was my first opera ever, but it contained so many elements--the costumes, the physical comedy, and superb opera singers. It was mesmorizing!

Atlanta Opera's "Italian Girl in Algiers" - FUN!

by 94Dynamite on 5/5/13Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

Comedic opera is not usually my favorite, but this was truly enjoyable in every way! The orchestra - delightful, delicate, gorgeous! The Atlanta Opera Chorus is really always the best, but in this performance topped itself, and this opera (happily) allows the chorus a large role. The singers all had amazing, gorgeous, masterful performances. The action -- and there is a lot of it -- almost went over the top in hilarity -- but everyone had great fun. Very memorable! Great for all ages -- would-be pirate boys will love the rowdy Italian chorus!

    Incredible Staging

by Foodbuy on 3/13/13Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

This was our first opera experience and we were blown away. The sound quality and staging were superb and we both left wondering why we waited so long.

    Cobb Energy Centre Opera

by Jeff1960 on 3/7/13Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

The opera was very good, but i did not care for cobb energy centre. people are jammed in like sardines, some of the people who work there were rude and not helpful, too busy taking about thier week end plans. I would not recommend the valet service either! it seems like they bring the cars back by how much they cost instead of when the people got in line.

    LaTraviata

Mary was great in this performance. Great show and elaborate sets for the production. We really enjoyed the whole show.

    Spectacular soprano!

by vschickie on 3/7/13Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

Mary Dunleavy nailed it! Fantastic performances from all the cast, chorus, and orchestra. Boris is a talented singer but was sometimes drowned out by the orchestra. Perhaps he needs to sing louder? My favorite performances were from Mary Dunleavy and Weston Hurt. Absolutely stunning! Thank you for such a wonderful evening!

    Beautiful Production of La traviata

by YeckaMeryl on 3/4/13Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

A wonderful, lush production of La traviata. The lead who played Violetta was a triumph. No wonder why it is her signature role. The sound, staging, and set were beautiful - but the costumes, particularly at the party scene, were breathtaking. The opera feels long, but the performances are worth it. I would repeat this experience. The only slight blip was the slight miscasting of Violetta's love interest who was either not as powerful as she, miked wrong, or both. By the end, all wrongs were forgiven for this beautiful performance.

Unforgetable! That's what you are, Carmen!

by Boppers71 on 11/20/12Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I SO enjoyed this wonderful showing of the opera, Carmen! The singing, dances and costumes, as well as set design, flow of the action, and terrific orchestra made this evening, for me, wonderfully memorable. Thank you.

    Carmen!

by ElCi on 11/18/12Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

Wonderful production of Bizet's classic; the stage direction and design were flawless, the performers terrific (Aleksey Bogdanov's Escamillo was particularly electrifying). What a perfect way to kick off the festive season!

    Loved this performance

by SeriousMusician on 11/15/12Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

Carmen was wonderful, and the Atlanta Opera company was magnificent. All told, the truly standout vocalist was not Carmen (though she did a wonderful job). It was Melissa Shippen who played the role of Micaëla. Kudos to the Atlanta Opera Orchestra. As an instrumental musician myself, these guys and gals really did an outstanding job. Atlanta truly has a gem in our Atlanta Opera and Opera Orchestra. Looking forward to La Traviata in the Spring.

The Atlanta Opera's production of this classic by Mozart was wonderful. At times I was moved to tears.

    Don Giovanni was enchanting!

by romanriddles on 5/4/12Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

The performers were all magnificent! Don Giovanni himself was played just super as the noble rake. And Donna Elvira was superb as the scorned woman, who yet would still succumb to his charms. However, it was Leporello who nearly stole the show. The costumes and sets carried me to that time and place. And the music was sublimely beautiful and resonated within me the emotions of the stage. It was an absolutely amazing experience!

    Golden Ticket?

by LoopyFruit on 3/12/12Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I was so excited to see this opera. I thought it was a very interesting idea and wanted to know how they would translate it from the movie. I think the costumes and set were very good, but the music was dismal. It was like nails running down a chalkboard to me. It was not the performers at all. I think the performers did the best they could with the material they were given.
