  • Loud, chaotic, free jazz pain

by Jazzbo on 8/6/25Jimmy's Jazz and Blues Club - PortsmouthRating: 1 out of 5

Mr Blanchard wrote the sound track for Mo Better Blues and played the wonderful trumpet solos, (1990 Spike Lee). The concert on Thursday had no coherence, no discernible musical line or development. I felt sad and left half way through. I have attended wonderful jazz concerts from Satchmo to Bucky Pizzarelli, Brubeck, Basie, Mulligan, and back, and some great talents at Jimmy’s, including Cecile McLorant Salvant. This one was a horror.Sorry!

  • Awesome show.

The ensembles were world-class. Truly an incredible concert. Terence Blanchard was in top form as always. I wish I could’ve bought my tickets any other way but through the ticketmaster. I don’t like supporting art market cartels, but there’s literally no other choice.

  • What a great concert

    by Cactus Flower on 1/23/23Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

It was a real privilege to hear Terence and his talented band in a small and informal venue. He is a legendary musician and composer. It was great to see how much he values the talent of his fellow musicians. His humorous anecdotes made the evening fun. Thanks for coming to Tucson, Terence - yes, we like our jazz here!

  • Cant wait to see this show again

by Juanita on 11/13/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Remembering Terence Blanchard back to Mo' Better Blues, I was eager to see him play but what was surprising and exciting was that Individually each musician was a talented master of their instrument, together they were a PHENOMENAL band. I can't wait to see them again.

  • Dynamic Experience

by TritondTiger on 7/2/18Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 5 out of 5

I'm a fan of his soundtracks. This was my first time seeing Blanchard live. He and his group members are authentic artists, true to their craft, and good at it. This is the way to live. Strive for greatness!

  • Blanchard at the Lincoln

by JeffreyMont on 7/2/18Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 5 out of 5

A great venue for this band. Ideal seat in front of balcony. The acoustics lost some definition in the balcony. I like the return of jazz music to social comentary. Very powerful.

  • hmmm. Terence Blanchard

by pantrydiva on 7/2/18Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 5 out of 5

Great musician and wonderful band members, tight , funky grooves- very enjoyable. But only played for an hour with a 5 minute encore :(

  • Great but short

by SpenceforJazz on 7/2/18Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 4 out of 5

Blanchard and company gave a strong performance. The moving visuals in the background added to a great performance. It was a short performance, just over an hour.

  • Worth it everytime

by GoldenFish on 5/7/18The Soraya (The Valley's Center for the Performing Arts) - NorthridgeRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Terence Blanchard perform a few times at large and small venues. This was by far the best. It was an intimate venue set up like a jazz club, which gave me the opportunity to sit up front and be completely immersed in sound. Mr. Blanchard is a joy to watch as he plays: there is an intensity in his energy and you feel bathed in every note. The particular songs he and The Collective played were driving and explosive, then alluringly comtemplative. I have been a fan of his music for quite some time. Traditional jazz purists will find this set a departure from his earlier works, but if they have ever tapped into the spirit of his music, they will still find Mr. Blanchard standing at the heart of it. He has put together a set of musicians who at once complement him and allow him to blossom within this style. A joy to watch, a joy to hear.

  • The ART of Cool was HOT

by Houndess on 5/10/16Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Love the improvisational music, especially the guitar and drum. Terence always seems to bend the perspective of music to shape colors and sounds from his horn. They played a little jazz too in the mix.
